DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've started sticking a few digits on the odometer in Grid again. I still have a fair whack of the DLC to go through, so I've started to go through it on max race length. Not going to look at the mileage again until I finish the DLC or get bored, at that point I'll look and either find the enthusiasm to continue or lose the will to live.

Plan on continuing Cult of the Lamb alongside it. Beaten 3 of the bosses so far, could probably get through the rest pretty quick but I'm happy taking my time. Can't see me platting it though, doubt I have the patience to try and beat a few of the bosses without getting hit. The rest of the trophies look easy enough

So I’m actively looking for a PS5. Not too much in a hurry but I’ve registered my interest on Amazon so fingers crossed sometime in the future they’ll allocate me a PS5. I was going to wait until the PS5 slim but that could still be years away. I’ll keep my eye open elsewhere too. Looking forward to Ragnorok.

That wasn’t hard. Thought I’d look to see if the ps5 was in stock anywhere and it’s in stock in several places but mostly in bundles. So I’ve ordered a PS5 with additional black controller for £499. Should arrive on Sunday. Very excited now. I made a stupid mistake - I thought I was buying an extra three years of breakdown cover for £12 for the console but it turns out it’s only for the controller lol. That’s what getting over excited does for you.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments If my luck with the PS5 controllers are anything to go by, you may need it ;)

To be fair though - one of my wonky ones seems to have fixed itself

Yea I normally wouldn't buy cover but I thought £12 for three years for a console was pretty good - until after I ordered I realised it was for the controller lol.

Thing is I've ordered it from Currys. And I've paid for quick delivery with a morning timeslot and the order says it will only dispatch if in stock. So I'm not convinced at the moment it will arrive this weekend. We'll see.

Well I’ve got my PS5. Been playing it all day. No real complaints so far. It’s massive but feels and looks premium. I don’t like the stand thing for horizontal console placement, it’s so fiddly but a minor quibble. I’ve got no room for it vertical unfortunately. The controller is really very good. Good size, looks and feels premium, and I love the haptics - Astro’s Playroom for the haptics is really good. Games wise I’ve played quite a bit of Astro and Stray. Astro is good fun and varied game play and I love collecting the old Sony products of the past. Good graphics on both. Really enjoying Stray too. I like the console user interface - just nice to have something new for a new generation. I like the control centre on the PS button. The things I don’t like. Controller battery life isn’t great - I recharged a controller in the afternoon and a few hours later (probably 4-5) it was nearly dead. Perhaps that’s the heavy use of haptics though, The console is not completely quiet like the Series X but it’s certainly not noisy by any stretch - especially when comparing it to the PS4 Pro. The PS4 had a news feed where it would tell you in one place what friends were playing, trophies they’ve earned, videos and posts they shared - can’t see anything equivalent on PS5. Anyway exceptionally minor quibbles. I’ve really enjoyed playing on my PS5 today. And I’ve got Spider-Man Miles Morales lined up and Ghosts of Tsushima after that. I very briefly tried the PS4 version of TLOU2 and it looked very impressive in 60fps. It was 30fps on my PS4 Pro, so not sure if they patched in 60fps for PS4 Pro later or something and it’s not a feature specific to the PS5.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished off Cult of the Lamb. Good wee game, nothing to really shout about but nothing to complain about either.

Given up on the Grid plat attempt already. I'll put a few more miles in while I'm in the mood but still way too many hours needed for the ping to be realistic.

And got stuck into Two Point Campus. Not much different than Hospital but enjoying it. I'll likely pick up Saint's Row tomorrow so it'll keep me going till then

Error | 408 comments I just keep bouncing around from game to game; a little Sea of Thieves, some more Dragon's Dogma. Started up Unsighted, which is really good so far. I didn't like the look of the pixel graphics when looking at reviews and such online, but it really pops when actually playing. Battling to save a bunch of robot friends from going offline permanently with some light puzzling and platforming. There's a relationship building component, where you collect items that can extend the life of another robot, but not nearly enough to go around. You will have to make decisions as the game progresses.

Been playing some more PS5. Completed Stray and loved it. They imagined an excellent world. I especially liked the two open areas, felt very cyberpunk in small scale but good. And the environments and game play were really varied. Started Spider-Man Miles Morales and already half way through the campaign. It’s good but it’s not my sort of game really. I like the graphics and map but the constant taking control away from me is really annoying. One second I’m controlling the game, next I’m watching a mini cutscene and rinse repeat. And not a fan of the combat - it’s ok but still not as much fun as I had with Batman combat. Not a bad game by any means - just don’t get the mega love, but each to their own. I’ll finish it. All this free game play on the ps plus extra trial :-).

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah Miles Morales was a step up from the previous one for me but they aren't really anything to shout about, solid games but hardly genre defining. And Stray... I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would. Thought they could have drawn the end out a bit more but apart from that I had no complaints.

Stuck a good few hours into Saint's Row. Still very early on in the story, so it could change but it's a little lukewarm. The world is an improvement over the previous games, and don't think it was a bad idea to tone back the OTT'ness of the last couple especially, but it's been a little bland so far. I'll admit a fair part of my impression of it is down to my obsessive compulsive need to complete every side activity before starting the story and they've not been great. The driving feels a bit more solid and there's not a lot wrong with it so far, but can't say there's anything that catches the attention. Got all the side hustles out of the way but only a few of the main missions, so hoping it picks up.

I assume the ssd expansion was pretty painless to install etc?

I really want to pull the trigger now too. Have sold my ps4, have everything backed up to an external hdd (games) and a usb stick (saves) so will have plenty to play (including games I haven't played on the ps4 and which have received proper ps5 patches, so they'll be like new games to me, including Days Gone, AC Odyssey and God War 2018 amongst others).

The missus has just got her start date for a new job though (yay!) so now we're car hunting for her so it looks like i'll need to hold off (boo!)

Will have to make do with just my X1S for a bit longer (#firstworldproblems)

Yea SSD was easy to install. I watched a YouTube video first on how to do it. It’s easy but there was one step I wasn’t aware of but once you know it’s easy. There is a screw guide thingyme that you need to move to the where the end of the ssd sits as SSDs can be different lengths.

The PS5 is definitely getting easier to find. When I put the effort in it was in stock in several retailers, but not Amazon. Got mine from Currys. And I think, at the time, it was in stock at AO.com and Argos.

It’s reported today that Sony is putting up the price of the PS5 console by £30.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm about 60% through Saint's Row but have no idea why I'm doing all the side stuff. I've no intention of trying to plat and the activities range from dull to repetitive to mildly annoying. Think I'm just going to knock the story out from here on, not something I like doing but think I'd probably give up otherwise

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished off the story in Saint's Row and can't say I'm much of a fan. The franchise did need a reboot but what they've produced is pretty tepid. The humour in the previous games may have been crude and juvenile, but they've managed to make it even more infantile by stripping away anything that could potentially cause offence.....apart from the remorseless slaughter of both enemies and neutrals. My opinion of it wasn't helped by having to redo the end multiple times because it kept glitching. Gameplay wise it's more of the same, no innovation or improvement but everything else is a step back, so for me it's definitely the worst of the series.

Next up Soul Hackers 2 I think

Error | 408 comments I recently picked up Saints Row 2 from Games with Gold. Is that one worth a play? My only other experience is the one where you are already president dealing with an alien invasion. I did not make far in that one at all, although I do remember thinking that jumping over buildings was pretty cool.

Bummer that the shiny new Saints is a bust. It was always a tough ask for it to create its own space with Grand Theft Auto still existing, I suppose.

Been gaming a lot this week. Completed Recompile on Xbox and I really enjoyed it. It’s a bit of a flawed gem, the platforming and shooting can be frustrating without the slow down ability but with it it’s fine. Also completed Spider-Man Miles Morales. Yea not my bag really, some pretty frustrating boss fights towards the end but better than the boss fights in the main game. At least they seemed better thought out. I was literally sweating with stress after the Rhino (I think he was called) boss fight. Enjoyed the game to a point but I don’t find the combat that intuitive and the constant mini cut scenes in game play was so annoying. And then I started Ghost of Tsushima. Played probably a good 3 hours. It’s really sucked me in. Cracking game so far. Gorgeous world, good story and the combat so far, unlike Spider-Man, is completely and totally intuitive and fun. Gorgeous graphics and I can’t wait to get back to playing it. Looks like I’ll have to pay for ps plus extra for a month to finish it which is fine. I’ve also been using the cards on my PS5 with hints on how to get trophies, including video help, and the remaining current mission time. Really good useful addition.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Made good progress in Soul Hackers 2. Maybe not quite as good as Persona 5 but I've no complaints so far

To be fair none of the SR games are really top top quality. They can be fun but all suffer from the old repetitive side activities, which haven't changed much (or at all) from the first one. The first few were a bit more down to earth (relatively)

Morning all. Been playing a lot of Ghost of Tsushima. Must be over half way through the campaign. I've been really enjoying it. Love the world, the combat and the story albeit simple has me invested. Probably the best game I've played since I got my PS5. And although I'm really enjoying it, a lot of my impressions of it before I played it - through reviews, youtube etc - was that of something that was a standalone almost unique experience for an openworld game. That it's not, it's very Assassins Creed like but AC before they changed it into some nightmarish megathon with a million quests. The combat, some of the game play elements and even the story seem very AC like. OK there aren't a million quest icons on the map but they are there as question marks instead and the waypointer with the wind is actually a nice addition but not game changing. I like the clean HUD for sure but not sure an unobtrusive HUD in other games really bothered me that much. Anyway, it's a cracking game - has a great world, graphics (can be mixed though at times with low-res textures but mostly very good) and the combat is a lot of fun. I like the way there are no health bars or enemy levels that you need to worry about - just goes to show levelling in an openworld game is not always needed. I mean you can increase damage and health of items but at no point have I felt an enemy was way-overpowered. So far a 9/10 game for me but it's very much a game I've seen and played before in most respects (not all. i.e. playing as a Samurai).

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima a lot as well, doesn't do anything new but doesn't do much wrong either. I don't always get on with the big exclusives but for me it's definitely one of the better ones

Yea it’s a really good game. Just contemplating to give Death Stranding a go but I won’t get to play it until late October and the new release season will be up and running by then. And Death Stranding looks like a really lengthy game but I do like Kojima’s crazy stories.

Error | 408 comments Next up in the rotation - Elex. I spent the better part of the weekend with this game and still feel like I'm in the tutorial area. Not exactly true, but it took a dozen hours of leveling (mostly through quests) in order to get the stats to wield a basic sword and use skill points. I'm into the world though, it has a great set up. Something about a janky, expansive RPG that just kind of drops you in the middle of it and says "have fun!".

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished off Soul Hackers 2. Not as good as Persona 5 but enjoyed it. Need to have another playthrough if I want to plat it. Should be able to get through it pretty quick I think, so depending on how long it takes I might attempt the PS4 ping as well. That said there's probably some trophy left that'll hold things up.

Played a little Dusk Diver 2 as well, and looks like more of the same from the previous one. Which is fine by me, wasn't a bad wee game. I'll get stuck into it once I decide what I'm doing with Soul Hackers

message 1826: by Ron (new)

Ron | 78 comments I've had a good 15 attempts at escaping Hades now and unfortunately I'm bored with it. I guess roguelike games just aren't my thing. I'm finding the random nature of the game frustrating as I got to the final boss on my 12th go and then died about halfway through on my 13th go. It's too variable for me. I'll probably pop on god mode and try to at least escape once.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I thought Hades was surprisingly good. Early on yeah, it can get a bit frustrating but you do eventually reach a point where you are escaping more often than you fail. Can't remember exactly but I think I was hitting near 20 fails before I managed the first but after that they flowed pretty regularly. And I was pretty satisfied by the PS4 & 5 double plat, so that probably helped my opinion of it ;)

Ron - It would be worth it to play long enough to at least escape once or twice. The way the story unfolds around that is pretty neat.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I do remember getting stuck at one point and having to search online for hints, but off the top of my head can't remember exactly what it was. Think it might have been to do with the character that flies off every time you talk to her. I could be mis-remembering but seem to remember using one particular weapon to clear the game multiple times until the conversations relating to it had been exhausted as well.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Looks like Soul Hackers 2 is going to need a 3rd playthrough for the ping. I'll stick with it to get it over the edge but won't be getting stuck straight into the PS4 version....probably. I've a habit of saying these things but end up starting (and finishing) anyway as nothing else is quite scratching the itch. Still I'm looking at another 15-20 hours at least.

I am kind of half tempted by The Last of Us for some stupid reason though. It's out tomorrow, isn't it?

message 1831: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all. Not been with it of late. My father in law passed away unexpectedly and it knocked us all for six to say the least.

I've been plodding on with Wonderlands, grinding out the last few remaining trophies. On chaos level 17/20 but it's getting harder each time I go up a level. Better loot isn't really dropping much so progress is slow. Still, replaying the chaos chamber is helping me chip away at the upgrades trophy so doing them both at the same time albeit very slowly.

I was pleased to see NFS Heat will be a PS+ essentials game for Sept. Nearly bought it so many times and kinda fancy it so will probably be my next game. Been ages since I looked forward to a PS+ game.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Think I made it to the 5th chaos level in Wonderlands before thinking nope this is going to be too much of a struggle.

Not a big fan of NFS but Heat was growing on me a little, still don't think they are great racers but Heat was probably one of the better ones for me

message 1833: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of NFS, especially post Forza Horizon but they're usually enjoyable enough and don't require much thought. Just what I need atm.

Hoping it's along the lines of Most Wanted and Rivals as they're my favs.

I saw there's a free to play kart racer out on PS4 yesterday. Starlit or something? I might see what the trophy list for that looks like later.

Phil, psn: p4tiny | 197 comments Have just taken delivery of a PS5...bought it from ShopTo bundled with an extra controller (black) for £504, free delivery. Decided to pull the trigger when the £30 price increase was announced but managed to get in there before the increase took effect and before everywhere went out of stock again.

All I'm going to be doing in the short term is testing everything works, downloading any updates due and installing the WD SSD I bought a few weeks ago...still playing It Takes Two with the missus on the X1S and can't really put the PS5 where it's going to live until that game is completed and the X1S is moved upstairs lol.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! Soul Hackers 2. Took just 2 and a bit playthroughs and the bit was mostly my own fault. Definitely platable in 2, so made a start on the PS4 version. I've a feeling I'm going to pick TLoU though, even if it is ridiculously priced for a remastered remaster

message 1836: by [deleted user] (new)

Congrats Deck.

I managed to get a slightly better shield on Wonderlands yesterday so hoping it'll give me the edge when I do the next chaos trial to try and increase my level again.

The boss is so annoying as he keeps regenerating his shield. I remove about 15% but he can then regen about 10% afterwards. It takes so long to remove that before I can start chipping away at his health. If I go down or get out of synch, he's quickly regenated the whole thing and I'm back to square one with less ammo. So frustrating.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Played a little of TLoU P1 and don't have much to complain about. Looks good, gameplays the same. I know most didn't see the point in it's existence but I thought the last remaster was pretty lazy for a Sony exclusive, some of the textures and effects were pretty half-assed and there were a lot better looking games last gen than it. I'm not Naughty Dogs biggest fan but now it's had another new coat of paint, it's looking the part, and for me at least, it makes it more immersive and can appreciate it a bit more this time around.

And still working my way through the PS4 version of Soul Hackers 2. I think attempting 4 playthroughs in quick succession was probably not a great idea ;)

message 1838: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't mind the TLOU remastered remaster too much, it's just the price I find quite galling. It's not worth full RRP I don't think but then again I don't have a PS5 to play it on so I'm not going to worry about it.

Played a small amount of Wonderlands on Saturday. I made no progress but did pick up a new gun which will hopefully make a dent on the boss I'm stuck on. I'd arranged with someone on a discord group I'm in to jump in and help but they let me down last minute. Really annoying as it would have taken 5-10 mins.

Morning all. Lots more Ghost of Tsushima for me over the weekend. Very close to the end of the campaign now - think I have three missions to go. Not much to say except still very much enjoying it. Combat has become so second nature now I'm constantly switching stances and feeling like a proper bad-ass samurai. I'd definitely play a sequel as I've had a lot of fun with this game. My only real complaint with the game, and it's more down to my taste than anything, is that I hate insta-fail, insta-death missions. The stealth missions where once you're discovered, or the missions where a captive dies before you can save them, I really don't enjoy if I fail. I'd prefer that when stealth fails combat is an option but maybe with fewer rewards or something. Fortunately the insta-fail missions are not that frequent. Minor complaint though as otherwise I love the game. The Khan stands no chance on our second meeting lol.

Yea read and seen a lot on the TLOU1 remake. I defo want to play it just not for the price they're asking. I'll get it in a sale 18months-2 years from now when they might reduce the price.

Heads up for any xboxers on the forum - in case you missed it. I normally ignore the xbox games for gold as usually they're pretty sheet. However this month they have Portal 2 from the 16th September so I'm defo claiming that as it's one of my favourite games of all time - wish I never sold the disk version. And that's the end of 360 games on games for gold as MS have exhausted the catalogue of back-compat games I've read.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments They could have been a bit more generous with the pricing, even though it includes Left Behind or whatever it was called, it's still just a (albeit fairly impressive) visual upgrade. Glass will be disappointed....still no directors cut where Ellie and Joel get it on ;)

I think it'll end up on PS+ eventually, not sure about 12 months though, guess it depends on how well the tiers take though. If they think it needs a boost it'll probably be added sooner rather than later. If they are doing alright I can see them milking it for all it's worth

Perhaps they might put both on PS+ Extra when the TV series launches - good way to get people that love the show to play the games (if they haven't already), sign-up to PS+. I'm all for remakes of classic games but just the price for me puts me off.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Have to say TLoU looks pretty stunning at times. I've made it as far as the hydro-electric plant and the river water leading up to it looked drinkable lol. And I've already got a lot more of the trophies than I did in the previous games so can't complain about that either ;)

Should be able to finish off the PS4 Soul Hackers 2 plat attempt over the next few days, then I'll focus on TLoU

I couldn't wait for It Takes Two to get finished on the X1S lol so have moved that upstairs and set up the PS5. I bought some InnoAura black plates off amazon - which are essentially poor mans DBrand Darkplates 2.0, but look just as good, and have the PS5 horizontal in my TV cabinet, but with plenty of clearance around it, and my word - it looks and is performing beautiful. What a machine, and i'm just generally really happy with my AV set up!

I haven't especially played too much as of yet, just a dabble here and there, have downloaded the free upgrade to the PS5 versions of Resi 2, 3 & 7 and Skyrim - and had a quick go on Skyrim. Seemed smooth, all good. Also had a quick blast on GT Sport, which again looked pin sharp. The biggest eye-opener for me has been Days Gone, which looks absolutely stunning at 4K 60fps - I reckon that's going to be what I really get stuck into.

I really want to get Ghost of Tsushima but refuse to pay that much. But it's all good, I have plenty to play, including Origins, Odyssey and RDR2, and still half an eye on some PS4 games that I know have been upgraded for PS5 (TLOU2) or even have a free PS5 version if you have the PS4 one (Horizon FW).

Really pleased with it all.

Good to hear you're loving you're new console. I'm on the fence on new faceplates - I have looked into them. I'd love my console to be black but I've got my PS5 horizontal too in a cabinet and you can't see it that well - it has plenty of space in the cabinet but in terms of seeing it it not that visible. Plus I'd prefer the PS branding on my plates but again I wouldn't see it in the cabinet.

BTW. Why not sub to PS+ extra for a month to play Ghost of Tsushima - it's not a long game if mainly you play only the campaign. That's what I've done. In fact, I had a code for one month of the old PS+ sub that I accidentally bought a while ago so activated that and paid an extra £4 for PS plus extra and then cancelled the sub. Once it expires I'll just sub to PS+ extra as and when games are on it I want to play. I have games pass ultimate until 2025 so that's my main sub. I won't be buying games on my PS5 - might get some for birthday and crimbo but otherwise will just be subbing for exclusives when they arrive. My missus will be buying me God of War Ragnorok for Christmas ;-).

That's a very good idea. Basically like subbing to Netflix for just a month just to binge Breaking Bad or something.

I will give it a lot of thought. It might not be a long game if you stick to the campaign, but I like to take my time with those types of games...HZD took me something like 90 hrs, and with how long I get to play during any given 'stint' that could easily take 3-4 months...I will think about it tho.

Yea depends on how much you game each month. You could complete Ghost of Tsushima, as in do everything, in a month if you game a lot but to me the game seems to have a lot more side quests than campaign quests. I've done half-a-dozen side quests for gear but mainly focused on the campaign. I tend to game 4-6 hours each weekend on single player so in a month can easily complete a standard length (20ish hours) openworld campaign in a month. I don't have time to do everything in a game - it would mean I'd probably play one game a year. Cheap but not good for variety. So tend to stick to the campaigns mainly. And I forget about platinums ;-).
