Mornign all

I think im heading for the final boss in RE Village.
Things...lets say...changed and heading to Mother Miranda.
I hope its not one of those pain in the ass bosses though...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Don't think you should have too much problem Glass. I wouldn't say it's a great boss fight but there are definitely a lot worse about

Talkign about being a dumbass in the game. I saved a lot of the fully upgraded Magnum ammo for when i really need it and...i cant use it anymore. lol.

Error | 408 comments I'm trying to see everything I can in Elden Ring. I know there are some side quests I botched, but I want to at least find every area. I've seen a few named areas mentioned online that I still haven't found. I have to be close to the end though right? 194hr and counting...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Some of the side questlines stuff is very obscure. The kind of stuff that if you stumble upon it, it's pure luck. Have to say I'm probably paying more attention to the side characters than I would do in Souls and generally being rewarded for it.

message 1406: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I'll pay closer attention to side quest stuff next time around. I feel like most of the NPCs just died suddenly or disappeared for me without really understanding why. The major ones I've been able to complete (Ranni, Sellen) have all been great though.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, there are some interesting and pretty unexpected things going on but even paying attention I feel like I'm often missing something (possibly a new game as I haven't hawed one in a while now or more likely common sense ;) )

SPOILERS for elden ring

I found that Sellen lady locked up underground but she kept repeating dialogue about her captors.
I got a lady in a shack near the start to Roundtable Hold and told her she had a gift as the blacksmith said so
There was a knight in Roundtable Hold looking of a lady and I found him somewhere in a big lake area over her corpse swearing revenge.
There was a blind lady who wanted me to give a letter to her father. Haven't found him yet. I think the same lady asked me for a flower or something later in the same area but slightly different location, which I gave her.

EDIT: I forgot about a guy I gave a spare key to the academy and a giant turtle with a pope's hat!

How am I doing?

Slight Elden Ring Spoilers

Without giving away any of their stories - there's also Alexander, D and his brother, Kenneth Haight, Corwyn and Goldmask, Gowry and the woman whose name I can't think of, Gurranq, Iji, Blaidd & Seluvis, Shabiri, the guy wearing the omen armour and a few more I've lost track of. There's a load of stuff going on that is really easily missed.

message 1410: by Error (last edited Apr 13, 2022 07:27AM) (new)

Error | 408 comments The Knight guy at Roundtable is the only one of those I totally lost track of. He just disappeared and I have never seen him out in the world. I've also seen almost everyone Deckard mentions, but have no idea where I stand with their quest lines. The ones that are still alive anyway, lol. Sometimes I just revisit old areas and corpses with loot appear.

I think if you are discovering things organically, you're doing excellent Ron. I'll admit to looking up a few items online, but the game is much more fun to just explore and get lost in without guidance.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I reckon I must be getting fairly close to the end of Elden Ring now (though still likely have many hours left). I'm guessing once I've finished exploring Mogwhyn, Haligtree and Crumbling Farum something or other (probably all spelt wrong) there's not be too much more after that. I'd be tempted to play as a sorcerer/mage type straight after, I've a crazy amount of interesting sounding spells

I have looked at a very general guide to begin which advised getting the meteorite staff. Aside from that I have only consulted a guide when I couldn't figure out how to progress in the final part of the academy area. Turns out all I had to do was fall of a ledge onto a support. Overthinking it as usual.

I've just got past some mad magic barrier thing outside a castle and met a load of spiders. I fucking hate spiders.

Error | 408 comments Deckard, you have now passed me up. Those are the areas I haven't found yet. I can tell you that playing as a mage is a blast, although it can make many bosses trivial. There have been several occasions where I spend a half hour trying to melee a boss, then decide I'll just blast them to death with meteorites or comets before they can even really attack. It's pretty satisfying, honestly.

Ron, that area probably has the best atmosphere of any area in the game. I loved it.

message 1414: by DeckardCain's Sandals (last edited Apr 15, 2022 01:08AM) (new)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, I accidentally finished Elden Ring last night...well the accident was more moving on to journey 2 (NG+) when they were giving the option of continuing exploring. There were still a good few areas I could have had a better look around. And I may have been able to get the other endings (or at least one of them).

Still pretty happy, I love From games but my record of managing to finish them is not great. Overall it's maybe a bit on the easy side (relatively speaking), there were only a couple of bosses that took more than a couple of attempts (though there's one near the end that's a bastard). I was probably ridiculously over-levelled though.

There are a couple of bosses near the end I'd be curious about how a mage type can handle before starting one myself and, rather than move on, I think I'll make a start on the NG+. I've a feeling that starting anything new at the minute will feel bland in comparison. Tempted to attempt to play through all the souls, bloodborne and sekiro though

message 1415: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Yeah, I would say that Elden Ring is the easiest "Souls" game overall. Again that is really because you have summons, elixirs, and the ability to turn around and level up elsewhere if you are stuck. Any boss I've actually spent some time on, it is generally because I wanted to challenge myself and take it down melee as a mage. Often with a dagger ; )

What level did finish at Deckard?

Glassmoon - The Benny Hill of Plats | 779 comments Mod
Morning all

Been on vacations these last few days.
Im back to work now.

In the meanwhile finished RE Village.
I loved the game. Very cheesy and over the top but a genuine RE experience for me.
I give it a 8,5/10.

I also started Nier Automata and although i cant say it has properly clicked yet i think it most surely click at some point later on.
Theres definitly something special and diferent about this game.
I just reached the desert area where i have to clear a zone out of enemies.

Error | 408 comments Hi Glass, hope the vacation was enjoyable. Nier clicked for me the second time I picked it up. It really does take some effort to get there, but when does click you'll find a deeply affecting piece of art. One of my very favorites.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Not sure what level exactly I finished Elden Ring but in NG+ I'm up to lvl 183 and haven't done much. So yeah you could say I ended up just a little over- levelled ;)

I was complaining about the PS+ offerings at the start of the month but have managed to stick a daft amount of hours into Slay the Spire over the past few days. I will need something to move on to soon but it's one of those that I find pretty addictive

Im starting to have a really sad feeling about Nier Automata´s story.
I dont want to risk any spoiler by saying it but i cant shake a very depressing tone around what i´ve seen so far.
I think the game is starting to grow on me.

Well I'm level 57 and just beat Starscourge Radagan? That name is probably wrong. Not sure what to do next. I got a bit cheesy for this guy as he was one shot killing me before I could even reach him! Basically ran about on Torrent summoning everyone I could to act as a distraction while I cast rock sling before retreating to summon more people. Found out after a few tries that you can re-summon cooperators who have just died!
I'm loving Blaidd the half wolf. That dude is cool as hell.
Still can't decide if Ranni is good or bad (no spoilers plz) because Blaidd seems good but Selvius is obviously a really bad guy but they both serve her.
Currently have no idea where to go but ended up in a haunted village (Sellia?) where ghosts randomly appear and cast soul barrage to decimate you. Tough going.

Even 60 bucks is quite a lot.
Not that i cant afford it but im so used to buy games on sale that full price puts me off.
But i do wonder how good it looks on the X.

Massive bargain for anyone with an xbox. At least in the UK but hopefully something similair in the EU and US. Metro Saga Bundle £12.49 - that includes Metro 2033, Metro Last Light, Metro Exodus (with all series X improvements) and two story DLCs (The two colonels and Sam's Story). Very tempted myself even though I've played all of them before mainly on PS3/4 (except exodus which I played on xbox). I've not played the DLC however.

Glass, Elden Ring doesn't look that good on XSX in my opinion. It's ok but other games outshine visually by miles e.g. Horizon 2. Might just be the art direction and colour palette.

From games never really test any technical limits, imo. They are just well-designed games that are a blast to play. That said, ER is probably the prettiest game they have put out. The real bonus playing on the X is just the steady 60fps. Makes everything that much easier to enjoy imo.

Well I hawed the Metro saga bundle for £12.49. I was just going to buy the DLC stories (which I haven't played, and include 7 hours of extra story) for £11.99 but for the sake of 50p why not get Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light that run at 120FPS on Series X - then I can play them again. I've already bought Exodus previously but still a good deal for everything else.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments As I expected, after finishing Elden Ring last week, I'm in a post great game funk. Slay the Spire held it back briefly but now nothing's really scratching the itch. Ended up returning to Elden Ring and started a magic type. Only killed some of the cave & tomb bosses near the start, the Tree Sentinel (though cheesed him), as well as Margit (only went that far to get to Roundtable Hold) and I'm getting the feeling that magic type wont be as easy as I'd heard.

Nothing I want to haw in the store, so reckon I'll be Elden Ring'ing for a while yet. Still, despite my first character reaching lvl 96 and 2nd reaching 183 I've still the enthusiasm to continue with a new character, which to me at least, says a lot about the game.

message 1434: by Ron (new)

Ron | 78 comments I had to cheese him .... for shame.

Now just reached Nokron.

The game is good but to be honest I prefer the structured level design of Dark Souls or Bloodborne.

message 1435: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments Hi Ron - I agree with that sentiment. Open world is a big negative for many people. Sometimes it all feels a bit aimless, and after your 30th small cave they feel pretty "blah". I think the highly structured areas are about as good as anything they've ever done though. I'm thinking this game will really shine with replay. People are going to come up with some amazing builds and paths to complete the game. Every weapon/skill/spell/incantation feels viable. After you know what you are doing and where things are, you'll be able to curate your own experience.

I really don't think From could ever beat the balance of exploration, secrets, narrative, and structured level design they achieved with Demon's Souls.

message 1436: by DeckardCain's Sandals (last edited Apr 25, 2022 01:55AM) (new)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm making progress with my Elden Ring magic type run and have to say much prefer melee. The game doesn't seem quite as balanced to me, one minute you are breezing through areas, the next you are being one-shotted. Melee has a bit more of a consistent threat. Made it as far as the academy, having fully explored Limgrave and the Weeping Peninisula and a fair amount of Liurnia, but really not looking forward to the bosses there.

I personally quite like the open world. There's a fair bit of cut and paste but that's the case with all open worlds (if anything they do a better job of disguising that than a lot) and there's enough souls type design and classic soulslike areas to keep things interesting and maintaining the From feel. It gives you the chance to breathe, where usually they are pretty relentless. I could see why souls purists would disagree though but I'm loving it partly because it's comparatively stress-free.

Edit: Thinking about it, I think I'm going to knock the mage attempt on the head for now and start a new melee character. Not that it's terrible, just enjoyed melee a lot more. I'll go back to the mage at some point.

Morning all. Not gamed much recently but I did finally finish Alan Wake Remastered. It's amazing how little I remember of a lot of this game, although I did last play it like 12 years ago or something. Anyway, I absolutely loved it. For me a classic and verging on a masterpiece. I'd completely forgotten the ending, in fact my memory of the ending is a false one lol - must be of something else, or the DLC. So I have the two DLC stories to do - but will take a break from AW for now. So I think next is the Metro Exodus DLC expansion. And then Sniper Elite 5 later in May. Can't wait. Glad you're all enjoying Elden Ring so much but defo not for me.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I did start a(nother) new character in Elden Ring but think I'll take a break from it. I could easily see it being like Witcher 3 for me last gen - one I'll replay every so often.

Thought I'd another playthrough of Xcom 2.... I remember the camera being a little fiddly but it's a lot worse than I recall and a lot closer. And it's a fair bit glitchier, with dialogue boxes not disappearing and longer delays between end of your turn and start of the aliens (I remember this happening towards the end of the game but not at the start). Could just be in comparison with Phoenix Point though. Still, once I re-adjusted I was getting into it again. Could be the War of the Chosen expansion causing the problems, so might just replay the vanilla version instead. Then again it could just be I'm remembering wrong ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments When I see mention of snakes it usually ends up the big sub-boss type that they re-use here and there. It does slither sort of I guess, but wouldn't remind me of a snake. There's one found in the basement of Stormveil and in an abandoned camp outside Leyndell, and a couple of caves. Kind of like the deathbirds and night cavalier types, random sub-bosses that appear in different places

Morning all

Last days have been tough working days.

Stillplaying Nier Automata. Im level 25 and just reached the Flooded City area.
Although im really enjoying it and think its a really good game so far i havent seen the masterpiece everyone says it is but i think part of it its my fault.
The story itself is really intriguing and i see glances of brilliance to come but, as with all the rpgs i play, i ruin the story for myself due to spending days after days doing side quests and leveling up without any story progress.
And in this department i dont think the game is great. Many of the side quests i did were very basic and felt a bit like filler content and since im very ocd with this i keep ruining the story momentum.
Last night i did the Castle zone and i got another snippet of a great story. The problem was that i was out of the that for the last 3 days so i had to try to remember where i was storywise.
What i mean in the end is that i dont think the game needed so much side quests that are just there to basically level up, imo.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Compared to other games I'd say Nier Automata is on the light side in terms of side quests overall. I don't remember them being too numerous anyway. Maybe a bit too much travelling back and forth on occasions but in terms of number, not daunting.

And remember, when you get to the first set of credits that's only the first part of the story, you've still got a lot more to look forward to.

Yeah yeah. Im mentally prepared to continue playing after the credits at least 3 or 4 times.
About the side quests maybe it was that part of the game. Suddenly i had quite a few quests poping up in the resistant camp and, Pascal Village and some other locations that kept me going for 3 days.
Maybe i´ve done them all and its mostly story from now on.

Hi all, not posted much due to not really playing much towards the end of last year and just generally being fed up/depressed (real life stuff, the news etc).

I did get back into gaming though with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition games. As I'd played Mass Effect 1 on the PS3 as recently as last July, I was really worried about burnout. I need not have been worried though as I had a blast playing all 3 again as 3 are masterpieces.

I'd read they'd done a lot of things with the mako in ME1 but it still felt the same to me having played both versions more or less back to back. Not a problem though as I thought the mako was perfectly serviceable anyway. They did massively improve the load times and gunplay though which really helped. The elevator rides in the citadel used to take an age whilst the game loaded in the next area but in the PS4 edition they only took a 5th of the time.

Other than looking a bit sharper, 2 and 3 still felt the same but they already felt super slick aside the first game anyway. The trophy lists were a lot easier too so 3 nice easy pings, relative to the PS3 lists.

ME2 is still favourite followed by ME3. Possibly because they were the first ones I ever played but ME1 is up there too. I'd give all 3 of them 9-9.5/10.

message 1447: by [deleted user] (new)

After ME, I went back and did a few bits of DLC here and there on various games before deciding it would be a good idea to reinstall NFS Payback and try and get the plat. I'd got approx 60% of the trophies a few years before but still needed to 3* every event. I'd always dreaded the thought of doing the drift events but they went OK. In the end I managed to do everything, got the ping, bought the DLC cheap and did that too. Was quite proud of that one as its quite a rare plat.

After that I bought Euro Truck Racing Championship for sub £4. I think you played that one last year Deck. It was a real budget title but I had fun with it and platted that too.

After that I was stuck again and had the completely nutty idea of trying to go back and trying to platinum COD World at War (the 2008 WW2 game). Not only is the campaign notoriously difficult, mainly due grenade spamming by the enemy AI, I also needed to do an online 4 player coop trophy on a 14 year old game from two generations previous.

I'd already done 4 missions on Veteran before getting stuck and giving up last year. I booted the game up again and just kept throwing myself at this bit I was stuck on. After well over 100+ tries I made it through to the next checkpoint. I did a few more levels before deciding I needed to get this online trophy done as that was potentially going to be the plat buster. I somehow managed to arrange a session on a trophy website and got that out the way with a lad in Portugal, the US and UK. It took a while to find a time that suited everyone. I could then relax slightly and know the only barrier would be my own skill or lack there of. Often at the point of rage/tears and retries into the hundreds, I completed the campaign on veteran, the holy grail. I couldn't believe it as its possibly the hardest I've done in gaming. I decided the two most beautiful words in the English language were 'Checkpoint Reached' as everyone was a battle to get to and a huge sigh of relief.

I then had a look at the remaining misc trophies and my heart sank a little. The plat still wouldn't be a formality. I decided to do one or two a night so as not to make it feel like a chore and I started ticking them off. I'd seen in comments sections on guides people saying they'd tried 50+ times on some but perhaps because I was already in the zone I cut through them surprisingly quickly. Even one taking just one attempt! I'd deliberately left picking up the remaining collectibles as my last trophy to minimise the pressure and then I was done. Ping! Probably my best one yet and for one of my fav games ever.

This was two weeks ago and I've struggled to find anything to play since. I don't think any will hit that high so just waiting now until I get proper itch to try something else. Not sure if I'll go back for another plat attempt or try something new.

Hi Glass. Yes definitely play them again. Will be interesting to see your thoughts on ME1 now (not sure when you first played it).
Also the ending for ME3 wasn't quite as I remembered it. Still underwhelming but not as bad as I remembered. I know they added some DLC to the original release to flesh it out so maybe the Legendary Edition includes that by default.

I don't think there has been a better trilogy of games.

I played ME1 a couple of weeks after release. I remember that the game froze in the loading ship screen and i had to wait for a patch.
But i thought it was a masterpiece even back then.
I replayed it years after in the 360 then then played 2 and 3 right after.
I cant remember very well the details but, at the time, i thought ME1 was the best, followed by ME3 and ME2.
