Not been posting much this week but I haven't been gaming much either. I have now completed four missions of Aliens Fireteam Elite. Still enjoying it. Good to see they've changed up the environments too - I was half expecting to be going through the same environment for the entire game. Oh and I tried to play some more Battlefield 2042 - couldn't even find a game after 20 mins so gave up. Boy that game is F'ed. I mean it's not a good Battlefield, probably the worst ever, but already dead - that's really bad. And a waste of money for many.

Morning all

Strugling with Arkham Knight.
I truly dislike the open world structure of the game.
It feels like im constantly wasting my time. The side missions have a % to complete so im constantly side tracking the main mission in order to complete another 5% of each side mission so the pacing is all over the place. I dont feel like im actually acomplishing anything.
The main story is ok but since im constantly putting it on hold the momentum of each section gets lost.
Im not quitiing but i really feel something is "off" in this game.
I still prefer Arkham Asylum by a long mile.

Me too. Arkham Asylum is one of my favourite games of all time. I still think it's the best Batman game. Some games don't need to be open world. AA was again much like a semi-openworld world where you go from smaller open map to smaller open map a bit like the new Tomb Raider. Some games are better off staying semi-open IMO.

So true mate.
I thought Arkham City was good but i didnt like the open world all that much. But Knight is even worse, imo.
What really annoys me is that i´ve read that you need to 100% the game in order to see the real ending.
No way im going to be bothered with that. Jesus.
I dont even think i´ll be doing the side missions let alone the collectibles.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I didn't think Knight was all that bad. Yes compared to Asylum it's nowhere near as good but the only real annoyance for me was forcing you to use the batmobile to solve puzzles. Apart from the scripted stuff I generally avoided the car, so it was only really noticeable how forced the inclusion was when you were asked to do platforming etc in it

message 1107: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments I haven't been able to make it through Arkham City in multiple attempts. I probably should not bother to ever try Knight.

I will finish up Death's Door over the next day or two. It's an easy recommendation for anyone that is feeling the itch to play a stylish top-down 3-d adventure.

I'll then be faced with the decision to start Bioshock: Infinite for the first time, or Mass Effect 2 for the second...

Ron | 78 comments Demon's Souls plat is mine! General opinion seems to be it's easiest of the souls games but I found several of the bosses frustrating and had to brute force them.

Got Horizon and Elden Ring on preorder. Rare for me! Got some good prices though so I'm happy to support devs I know produce quality products.

There's about 25 games on game pass I want to play. Who has the time?

Looks like Sony are responding to recent MS acquisitions. They’ve bought Bungie for £3.6 billion.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...

No Destiny on Xbox. No COD on PlayStation. I think they’ll strike a deal to publish both on both consoles - who knows.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Kind of hope both of them stop there and aren't tempted to buy up everything between them. Personally don't think a weakened third party sector would be good for gaming

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Started a hardcore character in Diablo 2 and stuck a good few hours in. Looked away from the screen for a couple of seconds and dead...

Also paid the extra £10 for the PS5 versions of Uncharted 4 & Lost Legacy and…..played Tomb Raider instead ;)

Played a wee bit of Lost in Random as well and it seems like an ok wee game, bit early to make a proper judgement on it yet though

Yea same here. Consolidation is not good for consumers mostly. It won't have a massive impact on me personally as I generally get both consoles eventually. The only plus side, at least for Activision, is that MS should be a better employer at least.

Gaming wise for me only three more missions to go on Aliens Fireteam Elite. I've actually really enjoyed it. I really like the environments, they really do mix them up and have that alien movie feel. Each mission is fairly cut and paste copy the same but it hasn't taken away from the game at all for me. I like the enemies too - fighting synths as well as xenos. Hopefully finish it this week work permitting.

Error | 408 comments So I've now put a few hours into Bioshock: Infinite. Wow...there's uh, a lot going on in that game. New Columbia is shiny and awe-inspiring. The world building is a definite highlight. I really don't care much for the protagonist Booker though. The tone of the game seems a bit confused. Heavy questions about race, religion, and political corruption are brought up and left unanswered while we kill an endless mob of nameless baddies in the most graphic ways possible. One minute your sidekick is running away from you because of your bloody way, the next she tossing you ammo clips in battle. I also have trouble keeping track of which psychopath is monologueing in the background while leading me on a tour of New Columbia. I hope everything comes together for the back half of the game.

I also bought the Castlevania collection on the cheap and played through the original. Still one of my favorite 8-bit classics along with Simon's Quest.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'm pretty addicted to Diablo 2 at the minute. I've had quite a few cups of coffee go cold because I've forgotten they were there I've been so engrossed. Making decent progress on a hardcore run but don't have confidence I'll be cautious enough to see it through.

Still on the fence about Dying Light 2 on Friday. I know I don't need it but dat itch....

MOrning all

ALmost rage quit Arkham Knight last night.
Im very near the end and there was a sequence of fights that nearly broke me.
Started with a fight in a garage outside GCPD, then a huge battle with inumerous tanks outside and then a REALLY stupid fight with 3 waves of enemies on a building top.
I get that some gamers really enjoy these type of challenges but not me.
It was really cold last night in Lisbon and i had to uncover myself in bed due to how irritated i was feeling. lol.
I think there´s only one mission left to finish the game and im done with this.

I know that feeling when you're close the end of a game and you've completely had enough. It started out OK, good enough to keep going, you start to get tired of it, however eventually you feel compelled to complete it even though it's turned into a chore. Borderlands 1,2, HZD, Arkham Knight all did it to me too. And probably others. Only game I gave up on the last mission in recent history is Destroy All Humans - it just got ridiculous and I thought I'm not putting myself through this anymore.

Anyway. Only one more mission to go on Aliens Fireteam Elite. Been a really good game. I was thinking of playing Mass Effect Remastered next but Crossfire X is out next week - might try that first. Multiplayer doesn't look my bag (I'll give it a go) but the campaign is by Remedy so defo worth a look.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I stuck on Life is Strange remastered yesterday and can't do it. I'm not big on graphics etc and it looks fine when you are standing still but whenever you move..... I don't know whether it's the style or the framerate, and I've played and enjoyed a lot worse, but for some reason it's just too distracting to the point I've found it impossible to get into (I've played through the story before and can't say I was a huge fan so it's no big loss). I found the same with LiS True Colors, even the PS5 version I've found painful to watch (not literally) and given up fairly quick. Can't say it's something I've experienced in any other games as I can generally put up with anything.

And I've decided Dying Light 2 is a yay because it's inevitably inevitable that it'll end up in the cart at some point anyway. It'll break up the Diablo 2 marathon

I get where you´re coming from.
One of my main problems with.AK, if i think about it, is the movement. I easily start to Benny Hill while running or fighting because Batman feels like a tank. Maybe its suposed to be like that but it just doenst "feel good" to play.

Keep me posted on DL 2 cause im just like you. I dont want to buy it at full price but i´ll probably end up doing it if the game is at least as good as the first one.

Error | 408 comments Read a few reviews for Dying Light 2 yesterday. Sounds like a good time as long as you aren't concerned about the story. If you just want to roam around doing zombie parkour it's a great playground. It will be a discount game for me down the line.

Interestingly, the last game I gave up on at the very end was Dying Light 1. Picked it up after years away, finished it within an hour, and put it back after deciding the DLC wasn't for me. I couldn't for the life of me tell you a single plot point, but I do have fun memories of slide kicking massive hoards of zombies.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Sounds like DL2 should suit me fine then. I can enjoy a game with a crap story but decent gameplay easier than one with a good story but crap gameplay

I give it a 7 out of 10.

Right now i dont have a clue of what to play. I know i want to play an rpg but i have no idea what.

Morning all. Completed Aliens Fireteam Elite. Cracking game. Loved the last mission - really intense. For a AA game a good 8/10 for me. Really does a good job of feeling like an Alien game in artwork, atmosphere, alien creatures, sound effects and the way in how the aliens attack. Simple throw away fun.

I played it single player with AI team mates. It can be played CO-OP as well. It seems a bit nothing special at first but it does get better albeit the same formula is adopted throughout with only a few things mixed up - like new enemies and using the gun turrets seen in Aliens being added. You do get turrets as consumables but you also get in mission ones too much like in the Aliens movie. The environments are good though - a good mixture of what we've seen in all of the Alien films - Alien, Aliens, Prometheus etc.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Played a wee bit of Dying Light 2. Only really done the sort of prologue/tutorial area at the start, so it's been pretty linear but yeah parkour is smooth, combat is alright and generally so far so good. Bit early to tell though, think it'll be when they let me explore the world a bit more that the acid test will come.

I've still not Diablo 2 out of my system, so how much of DL2 I play over the weekend remains to be seen

Great.
If you give it a 9 Andromedas out of 10 i´ll haw it.

As for me i narrowed my choices to AC Odyssey and Greedfall.
Im more leaned to Greedfall but it will come to what setting i´d like to go by the time i have to start playing.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments 9 Andromeda's out of 10 = 3 out of 10 in normal people ratings, so you may get your wallet out ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'd been on the fence about picking up Dying Light 2 but I'm glad I fell on the zombie infested side. Morning all. Was away most of the weekend but I did manage to start Mass Effect 1 Remastered. Can't believe this game is now 15 years old. Only played 90 mins but I think I need more time to get into it. ME1 is one of my favourite games of all time but I'm not feeling it currently. It's clearly a game of its time. I don't want to spoil my memories of it so I'll give it another few hours. I just don't get that feeling I had back when I first played it when I felt this pull into a mysterious compelling world that had me instantly hooked. I guess time, my gaming experiences over the past 15 years and progress in game development impacts this but I'll give it a chance. I'm in the Citadel at the moment and looking I'm about to go out to explore the galaxy so hopefully it'll click more then.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've also played a wee bit of Sifu. Only beat the prologue so far but looking forward to getting stuck into it after Dying Light 2. Promising start, combat seems pretty solid.

message 1139: by DeckardCain's Sandals (last edited Feb 08, 2022 05:41AM) (new)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I'd thought I'd made a good dent in Dying Light 2. 20+ hours in I'd cleared all of the first areas, so had a look at the map to check out the second part of the map and it looked maybe twice as big, which was fine. Then when I got to it....yeah it's bigger horizontally but vertically it's a whole lot bigger. Hardly died at all in the first area but the second, I've fallen to my death on quite a few occasions already. Could see it taking a lot longer.

Also beat the first boss in Sifu. Pretty cool wee game but it might be a bit on the tough side for my current level of patience. Definitely come back to it after DL2.

And I get the feeling that although I'm loving it now, DL2 might be the type to drag on longer than ideal

Error | 408 comments So I finished up Bioshock: Infinite. Yep, Booker is definitely a first-class prick. Elizabeth's development over the back half of the game was very enjoyable. I'm still not convinced that the game itself was the masterpiece many claim, but Columbia is one of the more memorable game worlds I can recall. I'm still pondering the ending. The brother/sister physicists were my favorite characters from the game. Haven't really been able to play anything since, still chewing on the Bioshock story. I know I'm about a decade late, but does anyone recall if the DLC content is worth it? I have it...just not sure If I want to bother. The main campaign really stands on its own.

Personally i thought Infinite was an ok game. The setting was great but the game itself was way too much of a shooter.
Do you knwo the name of the DLC? I honestly cant remember...

message 1142: by Error (new)

Error | 408 comments There is Clash In The Clouds and some other thing that is two parts. I'm leaning toward skipping it. I don't really see how it could enhance my Bioshock experience in any way.

I agree that it was too much of a shooter. I mean I guess that's fine but it was really pretty straight forward. There weren't really any memorable encounters. Shoot a few waves a baddies until they all stop moving, loot, move on. I also didn't like how you were constantly guided from area to area. If there had been some ability to freely roam Columbia that would have been incredible. Oh well, still happy I played it.

Yea I'm the same on Bioshock Infiinte. For me a good game but nothing special. The first Bioshock was a masterpiece but not Infinite. I understand the reasoning for moving away from Rapture - as Reapture could get samey over more than a couple of games. Apparently the new Bioshock in development is set in an ice city in the Antartic.

For me progressed a bit more on Mass Effect 1 remastered. Got to the use the Mako again lol. The game is good but yea 15 years and it's showing. I did get a little bit more pulled into the game - when the music kicks in, the environment feels atmospheric and you're in a good battle then I start to get reminders of why I liked it so much all those years ago.

Morning all

Been really enjoying Greedfall.
Had a really cool moment with it. Had the option confront a high positioned diplomat with a lie or leave him be during a quest. I pondered a bit and decided to give him a pass cause i didnt want to ruin my diplomatic path. After a while i came across another quest that had me deciding about the future of two people who were running away from another faction.
I had the option to ask that diplomat for help, which i did and since i was in good terms with him he did help me save those two people.
I dont know if it was illusion of choice or my actions did matter (and i dont care) but it was a truly satisfying rpg moment.

I did everything in the first area and i just moved to the island where i think the actual game will take place.

So far its definitly scratching my rpg itch.
Very Biowarish for sure.

Bioware pre-andromeda cause im feeling generous today. :P

It is clunky. For example, i reached the new island that the first vendor i found had the exact same character model and voice of the one in previous island which was very awkward. lol
But i honestly dont mind this type of things as long as the game is dense enough in itself.
Once i found an alternate explanation in my brain i never though about it again.
I also really like the visuals. The game looks stunning with HDR on.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Should be polishing off the Dying Light 2 story later. Stopped last night just before the epilogue so shouldn't take long. Definitely not the 100-500 hour people were mentioning before release. For the first half of the game I was very thorough and still look on course to finish it sub 60 hours. Was worried about open world fatigue but looks like I'll be done before that sets in.

Then onto Sifu, though I've the urge to replay the 3 Shenmue games as well
