The correct answer was "What's the point in asking? You've probably had it in the cart and were hovering over buy before you'd manage to finish that post"
Quite like it. Releasing a carnivore among a load of herbivores probably wasn't a great idea though. I left plenty of fresh meat out and a few goats but no he'd rather attack the other dinos.
The end of year sale is terrible, in keeping with every other sale they do these days. The only tempter is that Euro Champs Truck Racer one but I'll probably pass.
Morning all
Yeah, i saw a couple of games in the sale but nothing to get me excited.
I also have the problem of where to buy the next games. Ps4 or Xbox?
Im loving the Series S but having another hawing problem is messing with my inner shawkras.

At least with the series S you don't need to buy anything thanks to gamepass.
Gamepass is great and I'd use it if PS had something comparable but I do wonder how sustainable it is in the long run and think it cheapens and devalues the games industry.

That´s a great point John.
I myself been thinking the same thing for quite some time.
I mean, Gamepass and PS Now are great for the customers.
I bought a Series S, subscribed to Gamepass Ultimate and i pretty much dont need to buy games which is amazing. But i doubt this is profitable for developers.
I think its like Amazon Music or Spotify. I have Amazon music and i havent bought an album for 2 years despite having the ability to listen to pretty much whatever album i want. To me its a dream come true but this is killing the music industry.
Bands are dying because there´s no point in making albuns anymore. Their value is reduced to near zero and the younger generations dont take time to devour an entire album because they didnt pay for them. They listen to a couple of more popular songs and they move on.
I fear something like this will end up ruining the gaming industry.
Gamers play a bit of each game and they move on and developers will think twice before investing on a new game because no one is actually gonna buy it directly.
Im very worried for the future.

Anytime I've subbed to Game Pass or PS Now, I've found myself unable to settle, 5 minutes on this, 5 minutes on that, it gets kind of annoying not making any progress on anything. Whereas if I've paid for a game with my hard earned cash, I still jump between games, but I'll generally stick with them (longer anyway, unless they're crap ;)).
Currently deciding on whether to attempt the Outriders' plat or move on. Getting all the class related accolades for my character sounds like the biggest grind, but the post game expeditions don't take too long and at least make it look like I'm making a dent. I'm still generally enjoying it, so may stick with it a few days and see how close I'm getting
I've not had an issue settling on games with games pass - I create a wish list and play through the games sequentially. There is always a risk they might leave by the time I get around to them but not had that issue so far.
Yea I thought the same about games pass killing development but from what I see in gaming news articles it seems it gives games that would otherwise might stuggle a better chance to succeed and make a profit. And for the more third party AAA titles they tend to go on games pass once their release window has passed after a few months and gives a later opportunity for more revenue. I think one indie developer (think it was Double Fine before they were bought by XBox) said that games pass allows more creativity as gamers are more willing to try a more creative game if they don't have to pay for it directly. Probably too early to tell of whether it kills the industry, stifles creativity/devs but I'm not convinced either way at the moment. I know for example that Rocket League owes a lot of its success to being free on ps plus - it didn't stop it from making a lot of money being included in a sub. However, I do think the game pass sub will become more expensive - I think MS for games pass are treating it as a loss leader for now. I'm basically playing games for free (I've spent next to nothing on subs so far) but I don't think it will last. I expect MS will at some point stop the freebies, up the price a little once everyone knows the value of games pass and won't see £12ish (or whatever it ends up being) as expensive. If for example MS had 40 million subscribers paying £12 a month that's 5.6 billion in annual revenue to share between devs and MS. That's a lot of money that devs (whatever share they take) might not have received otherwise. Back in April games pass had 23 million subscribers so they're doing pretty well at the moment.

Good point about the smaller developers, you could definitely say it's a huge benefit to them. Maybe it'll eventually force the bigger ones to up their game and balance things out.
CoD is still ruining the industry though ;)
Good point Rob
From that point of view it can be great for small developers.
But looking at the big picture, on one hand you have a 60/70 usd/eur per game against a 6-10 usd/eur monthly sub to play hundreds of game for free.
I really dont see how this will be good for developers just like it hasnt been for bands in the music industry.

Yea I take your point Glass. I certainly agree on the music industry viewpoint. I think the music industry has been fighting for more of a share of the subs (think it's ongoing) so I hope gaming doesn't go the same way (otherwise it's not working for the benefits of both parties). BTW - I don't see many AAA going to games pass on release - the vast majority don't - so the devs make their money from the release window purchases of 60/70 usd (which is the norm unless you're Rockstar) and then sometime later (usually months) some go on to games pass - that seems win-win to me. Only really MS games (Halo, Gears, Forza) go on to games pass day one and a small handful of AA games mostly. EA for example have EA play - an equivalent subscription service - so they already do it, independent of what MS do (albeit MS have now bunged a load of cash to EA to include EA Play in game pass). I honestly don't think games like Outriders (release day on Games Pass for example) wouldn't do that much better than not going on Games Pass and they wouldn't do it without it being financially viable (they can say no). It's all an experiment at the moment - and we'll see how it pans out. EA have been doing EA Play for many years so it's not new.

Think that'll probably be the last plat for a while, both Evil Genius 2 and Jurassic Park Evolution are probably lifetime commitments to get theirs, so I'm just going to play them till I've had my fill.
Edit: Was a double Ping! Since your character is held on the server, when I stuck the PS4 version on - instant plat
Congrats Deck, you're a plat machine at the minute.
I've been tempted to pick up Outriders at £20 but know I won't get the time to put into it.
I'm thinking of starting Alice: Madness Returns tonight. 10 years since I last played it. Just depends what time my lad goes to bed. I turned my PS on at 10:10pm last night, yawned and turned it off.

Only a point and click but a rare ping nonetheless. As far as point and clicks go it was quite good.

I had a blast with that one.

Elex is a great rpg. Not so fantasy driven but it has a ton of magical stuff and monsters.
Well worth the play and its usually very cheap.

Is Mortal Shell an RPG? That's one of the Dec PS+ games.

I believe its a Souls like game.
Its free on gamepass too.
I also sugest Dragon´s Dogma but im not sure if you already played it.

Glass - I hounded you relentlessly to play Bitterblack Isle on Dragon's Dogma because it's one of my top all-time RPGs. You should still do that btw. Things get dark and mysterious in a very good way as you get deeper into the dungeon.
Did some more digging. Pillars of Eternity, A new class for Dragon Age: Origins, or the A2 run for Nier: Automata are now in contention.
I appreciate the suggestions. Sometimes deciding on a new game can be very hard.

I have to be in the right mood to play them but the Pillars of Eternity games are good. Pathfinder: Kingmaker is similar to those as well and is decent, Torment: Tides of Numenera too.
More Evil Genius 2 for me over the weekend. Getting near the end of the campaign and I'm toying with the idea of attempting it on hard after. If it's not too much of a pain, might try for the plat, not going to obsess over it though, it's the type of game I'll likely go back to every so often
Hi all. Mostly been playing multiplayer but I did complete Exo One over the weekend. Only a short less than 2 hours game but I quite enjoyed it but defo marmite. The story is a bit confusing, but I love the errie worlds and artwork. It's a bit like Flower - probably not quite as polished - but the game play loop is to get across several different planets to an exit portal by maintaining momentum through various game play mechanics. It can be a bit frustating at times but once it clicks it can be quite satisfying when you manage to fly high and break the sound barrier and stay off the ground for long periods. This week is Halo Infinite campaign so that's my next game.
Morning all
Spent the weekend playing Fallout 3 in the Series S on cozy sofa.
Fallout 3 is one of those rare games that hits a sweet spot in my gaming brain. I just love to get lost in the wasteland. Now, with the instant loadings its even better and i cant get enough of it....again.
Im also near the very end in Zombi. If this playthrough doest get bugged and im able to finally finish the game i have to say this is one of the best survival horror games i ever played. The atmosphere during the whole game is enough to make me constantly fear for my life.
This is a game every horror fan should play at least once.

I had an eventful weekend with a broken boiler (now thankfully fixed) and a trip to see relatives.
Managed to cram a quick ping in yesterday in the form of Squareboy vs Bullies. A bit cheap and nasty but has some challenge to it so don't feel too bad about the poor quality of the plat haha.

It'll keep me ahead for another half an hour or so ;)
@Ron, not sure if you're joking about Kena? I'd heard it was a fairly straight forward plat.

I see Beneath a Steel Sky's sequel has just been released, may pick that up although it is reasonably priced, it's probably a bit more expensive than I'd like to pay for the type of game. I'll toss a coin (and keep tossing it till it says haw ;) )

I am definitely not joking. Master difficulty playthrough required for the platinum. No new game plus. 2 hits and you're dead. Enemy attacks and throws have tracking, even in mid air. I've made it about 75% through but think I'm going to give up. I don't mind difficult but this is just cheap shots and barely any damage. You can get all the patterns but you'll literally get cramp from how long it takes you to wear them down and you can't afford a single mistake. #NOTFUN

Hey Deck. Tell me how it goes as i was also a huge fan of the first game back in the Amiga days.

Started up Dragon Age: Origins as a Elven mage and was almost immediately hooked. Fair amount of snow over the weekend, so I also enjoyed quite a bit of gaming on my comfy couch.
I agree with the CRPG´s mindset.
Although i was really enjoying Divinity i had to put it on hold cause i needed something a bit more fast paced.
You´re playing Origins on the Xbox mate?
I almost hawed it the other day.

Isn't DA Origins on Game Pass via EA Play?

Quite like what I've played of Beyond a Steel Sky so far, maybe could have done with a less colourful look, but has gotten off to a fairly interesting start.
Thinking about going back to Godfall to play alongside it, maybe pick up the DLC while it's on offer. Either that or the other PS+ offering, Lego DC Super Villains though the few Lego games I've played have got repetitive fast and tend to lose interest pretty quick
Ping! - Bouncy Bullets.
A bit grubby but a challenge in places, mainly due to the laggy controls.

How you been doing? Still a haw? :P"
Im good cheers mate, oh yes , got plenty to play . You ok?

You can probably tell from the quantity than none of them were on for very long. Godfall lasted a bit and kind of half want to play them all but generally found myself going back to EG2.
And there's a free PS5 upgrade for Phoenix Point, so that'll be added into the mix and add to the confusion

Looking forward to a long Dragon Age weekend. I'm considering turning heel and becoming a blood mage.
I'm playing Halo Infinite. Just got to the openworld section but not explored much. What came before it was good though - typical indoor linear Halo, very reminisent of the older (1, 2, 3) Halos. So far so good. I did clear the landing zone in the openworld just as you step out into it and was very good. And even on normal difficulty not a walk in the park - you really have to plan your attack, and take care.
Oh and I see Alan Wake 2 has been confirmed. That is really good news for me. Alan Wake is one of my favourite games - I have the remastered version ready to play after Halo, or perhaps after Far Cry 6, whichever I play first after Halo.

Been feeling sick in the last week. Not Covid just regular flu but it still stings.
Feeling a bit better now.
So, my feelings on We Happy Few so far.
As a story driven game im liking it. The atmosphere and the world is really intriguing and interesing and its a bit more mature than i expected. The combat (so far only melee) does its job and the game gives a fair number of diferent ways to aproach missions. I´ve been doing a mix of stealth and combat that has been satisfying.
The game is also more of an rpg then a game like, lets say, Bioshock which its its main influence, imo.
Therés inventoy managment, lots of gadjets, clothes to wear with various atributes, a skill tree, buffs, a very robust crafting system and lots of side quests to find.
It also has hunger, thirst and sleep meters but they will not make you die. They just add small debuffs which is good actually. Sometimes i eat and drink just for roleplay sake.
Missions so far have been have been interesing and add to the great vibe of the game.
What i dont like so much is the procedural generating side of it. The map is huge and after a while you start to get the "procedural" tricks and formats and it takes away a bit of shine to the world. But my main problem is that you probably only needed 10% of the map to play the game and the generated size of it gets in the way of the game, imo.
I often have to travel by foot 2 or 3 minutes just to reach a place and there´s no valid reason for this. Its like if someone took out all the map content and landscape variety of Skyrim and you´re left with endless walks from point A to B jsut for the sake of it.
You find some side quests all over the map for sure but that still doenst compensate for the copy and paste enormous map.
What im doing now is just following the main story (which is good) and avoid exploring to much.
