DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Cheers. Fancy something a bit more relaxed before getting stuck into something serious myself....so of course have went back to Dark Souls 2 ;)

No gaming for me except a bit of multiplayer. I have thrown some money at some games. I’ve pre-ordered Mafia which is my next game. And I’m so excited for Battlefield 6 - I always play Battlefield games to death - that I’ve pre-ordered the premium edition. And with some left over PS Store credit - like £8 - I bought the pre-order bonuses for Delta Force which I’ll no doubt play for a few weeks. And the Gears of War current generation remaster is out later this month too. So that’s me sorted for a fair few weeks.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I think Hellblade 2 is likely my next purchase. Not convinced by what I've seen of the new Mafia, I get the feeling it could be a frustrating one. Then Metal Gear and Gears of War at the end of the month, so plenty of time to squeeze a game or 6 in ;)

Had the urge to replay Destiny (not 2). Servers are still up and people still playing, but they keep kicking me out for no reason. After 4 or 5 failed attempts to sort, I've given up on that idea.

I like what I’ve seen of Mafia but yea I’m taking a risk before reviews are out. I need a new game. At least it’s got a 60fps mode, although I think they might have called it unlocked framerate mode to set expectations. I’m sure it’ll have difficulty modes so hopefully not too frustrating.

Have you played Hellblade 1? Honestly terrible games. Look gorgeous graphically but if you don’t like Plague Tale I can’t see you liking Hellblade - it has even less game play and what is there is awful.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, played the first Hellblade and surprisingly enjoyed it. Don't remember having too many negative thoughts about it. Then again, maybe I'd be better replaying it before deciding on whether to pick up 2

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Mostly playing Dark Souls 2 at the minute. Died 3 times, once due to my own stupidity, the other 2 down to annoying invasions.

Being invaded is my least favourite thing about Souls at the best of times, but my character didn't even have the stats to equip a shield, could only cast one spell (which is easily avoided and had already used half the casts on other enemies), and my hp and stamina were what they started as. Killed me in 2 hits and taunted like preying on low-level areas was some great achievement....

They invaded again 5 minutes later, and I jumped down the nearest hole to my death, because I wasn't going to waste my time with that nonsense. Definitely think they should have made the first area you can be invaded a little further on in 2. Might go offline for a while so I can grind in peace

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Kind of tempted by Heretic + Hexen...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! That critically acclaimed masterpiece....Achilles Survivor....;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Preordered Hellblade 2, party because I'm struggling to find anything that keeps my attention at the minute. Think I've read it's about the same length as the first game, which is fine by me, think I'm in the mood for short experiences at the moment rather than anything too meaty

I’ve been playing Mafia The Old Country. It’s pretty good so far but at the same time I can see why it’s not full price. Shines in the characters, story telling and cutscenes - albeit the character models are not the best I’ve seen - but it takes a good 2-3 hours to really get going. In the first 3 hours I probably had two gunfights and two races. I can’t stand the knife boss fights - basic, not the greatest mechanics and really don’t add anything. The open world is not really open as at least so far as it’s constantly asking me to follow people. However I’ve just got my own place so hopefully I can just spend a bit of time driving around exploring taking in the map. Definitely feels more AA than AAA - somewhere in the middle. Also the insta-death stealth - hate it.

And of course I’ve been playing the Battlefield 6 beta. It’s absolutely incredible. So excited now for October. Looks amazing on PS5 Pro and 120Hz - only console that does it for BF6.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Insta-death stealth...possibly the worst gaming concept ever created. The gameplay was the thing that worried me from what I'd seen. Probably does the job, but glad I held off

R(ob) (r_uk) | 885 comments Mod
Yea I’m not a big fan either. It’s fine if when it goes wrong the game reverts to a fight but insta-death is not what I enjoy. Saying that the stealth in the game is fine - seen it all before - and is pretty straightforward. Just had another race and it was like controlling a car on ice.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Messed around in Bloodborne a bit last night. I used to get stressed out playing souls, but that faded over the years to the point they can be relaxing. Bloodborne though, I still find pretty stressful. Love it, but prolonged play can wear me down.

Decided I'll replay the first Hellblade before starting the second, since they aren't massively long

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Plat for the PS5 version of the first Hellblade looks easier, not that i remember it being difficult. The chapter select is separate from the main playthrough, so you can pick up any missing collectables from it. Don't remember it being like that on the PS4 version, but could be wrong, and don't remember it being too tedious with collectables anyway

Equinox80 | 664 comments I've read Hellblade 2 is quite a step up in plat difficulty. PowerPyx rates it as a 7/10.

The death rot mechanic that was in the first game but had no consequences, does have consequences in this second game apparently and is the reason for jump in difficulty.

I'm hoping they release the trophy list for Gears of War Reloaded soon. Its been too long since I played a Gears game and quite fancy it. Hopefully it has horde mode as that's fun even with randoms.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments 7/10 for plat difficulty...crap, I find some of their 3/10's tricky ;)

The Hellblade remaster will bring me up to 299 plats, doesn't sound like the sequel will be 300

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I plan on playing Gears without looking at trophies, can't see it being an easy plat

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping! Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice (PS5). Enjoyed the replay and think it's still a mostly great wee game (and a bit more straightforward 2nd time around).

On to the sequel

Completed Mafia The Old Country. The second half of the game was much more fun than the first half bar the horrible knife fights and an insta-death sneaky boss fight. The story, characters and cut-scenes were very good. Standard Mafia story but very well done. Combat is fun. Racing a chore. Stealth seen and done it all before but it’s straightforward even with the insta-death. The open world looks nice but it’s purely a backdrop. The graphics were a little soft in performance mode but little different to games such as Alan Wake 2 for comparison. The money seems pretty pointless. Yea you can buy new clothing, cars and colours but the opportunity to buy them is very infrequent. The one thing that frustrated me is that it doesn’t tell which guns you are picking up and the opportunity to choose your load-out is very very infrequent - bit of a pain for going for the related weapon trophies. For all the gripes I did enjoy it, especially the story, characters and combat. It would be easy to be critical but for the amount I enjoyed it I’ll give it a 7/10 on the r-score-o-meter. Defo worth a sale purchase.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Only played about an hour of Hellblade 2. Looks superb, but from first impressions, i think i prefer the first game, the tweaks to the combat aren't an improvement. Other than that, it gets off to a decent start. Very early, so we'll see, though tempted to take a short break before getting stuck in

Apparently the plat difficulty is 7-8/10 even when using the cloud saves exploit. Trying it without the exploit makes it all but impossible :(

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Yeah, it only has 13 trophies, and the one that's likely to cause problems wasn't in the original Xbox version, from what I've read. I'll just play through the story and not plan on even attempting the plat

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Finished off Hellblade 2 and yeah, thought it was mostly great. Similar to the first, it definitely has its frustrations and irritations (and 99% of that is combat related), but the story and how it's told makes up for it. Still would lean towards the first as to which one i prefer, but not a big difference between the two.

Not going to attempt the Dark Rot mode. Even on ease, the combat was a bit more frustrating than the first, so advanced difficulty with limited deaths sounds like too much of a pain.

Thoroughly enjoyed playing them both....but finished up quicker than I thought, so haven't a baldy about what's next

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Ping no 300! Starfall Defense (though the game itself doesn't know whether to call itself Defense or Defenders weirdly). Cheap wee tower defence type, basically a re-skin of one if the others. So nothing new, but not bad either if you like the type.

Now what...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Might give the Battlefield 6 open beta a quick whirl, not that mp shooters are really my thing these days

message 5526: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 664 comments Hey Deck, congrats on 300. Starfall Defence? Is that like a reskin of MACE Tower Defence or Swamp Defence? I was looking for a tower defence game the other day.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments It's pretty much M.A.C.E

Equinox80 | 664 comments Nice one, thanks for the tip on that one. Exactly what I'm in the mood for.

message 5529: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 664 comments But before I start on that...

Ping! Bodycount

This took some getting over the line. I finished the online side of it off in April and needed a break from it. The main thing I had left to do after that was the campaign on hard difficulty which I started a few weeks ago. There were some horrible difficulty spikes along the way to dull my already low enthusiasm and I could only manage about two levels per night at most. I put the game on last night to just get past a checkpoint as I was stuck again but got through it first time and as I was feeling 'in the zone', I ploughed through to the end via a couple more horrendous difficulty spikes. Just cleared another misc combat related trophy now to get the ping and a huge sense of relief.

After this and a some other tough, grindy plats of late, I've got a few easier, more relaxing games lined up and I need to start thinking what might be #275 (I'm on 271 now).

In contrast to this thinking, a group I'm in have decided to tackle Aliens Fireteam Elite. It's meant to be as hard as nails so a few chill games beforehand will be good.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And Ping! The PS4 version of Achilles Survivor. Mostly played it to fill a bit of the gap until Metal Gear and Gears of War, and not in the mood for anything too involved. Still, between the PS4 & PS5 versions, I stuck nearly 50 hours in. Which is a bit much for the type of game. Think I'm going to have an annoying few days jumping between games now

Took a chance on Sword of the Sea on PS Plus extra. About 2 hours in and it’s superb. Highly recommended. Light puzzle platformer with board tricks but you can pretty much ignore the tricks side at least so far. Made by the same people that made Journey and it has all of the excellent artwork, environments and atmosphere. Platforming is good too.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Journey....so avoid like the plague then ;)

R(ob) (r_uk) | 885 comments Mod
There’s a lot more game play in this one.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Afraid its a no for me. Contender for most uninspiring trailer ever created. The environments look fine, but it literally looks like a lot of travelling and not a lot else. It's like they added the tricks just to elevate it from mind-numbing boredom to slightly less mind-numbing boredom. Possibly plays better than it looks, but they've not done themselves any favours with whats on the store

message 5535: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 664 comments Journey was a mini masterpiece ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Has that in common with Andromeda then apparently....;)

Going to have to buy a new dictionary as I'm no longer sure what the word masterpiece means ;)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments And speaking of mind-numbing boredom - I've reinstalled A Plague Tale Innocence to see if it'll click/delete straight away ;)

I’ve completed Sword of the Sea. Excellent game with lots of great platforming, exploration, light puzzles, collectibles, superb artwork and great atmosphere. Nothing like Journey whatsoever in terms of gameplay. It’s a proper game and the tricks are only really for the trick areas which are optional. 9/10 on the r-score-o-meter. If it wasn’t for completing the game in under two hours trophy I’d go for the platinum as I’d be more than happy to play it again. I have started a new game plus.

It’s a platforming game so not sure where the - lots of travelling and not a lot else - comes from. If it’s the trailer then it’s not the case at all.

I might give Harold Halibut a go next.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Could well be great, but i get the feeling that it's one that would bore the life out of me

Equinox80 | 664 comments Ping! Starfall Defenders

This was just what I was in the mood for but unfortunately I ruined it a bit by being monumentally thick. I only realised last night before starting map 64/70 that I could perm upgrade tower stats.

I found the game a struggle but it'd have been a breeze if I'd been upgrading my favourite towers instead of buying airstrikes and nukes.

I've been a bit distracted this week with real life sheet but even so, this reached new levels of stupidity.

Equinox80 | 664 comments Please give A Plague Tale: Innocence a proper go Deck. It's a great (apart from the final boss).

Gears of War Reloaded is out Tuesday so that’s my next game. Harold Halibut won’t get a look in now. I’ll play Gears on Series X but I’d love to play it instead on PS5 Pro but I’m not paying for it when I already have it for free.

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've Gears installed and ready to go, just need to find something between now and Tuesday...

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Was considering trying to blast through A Plague Tale over the weekend, but my motivation has gone a little. Don't think I'll be able to settle on it now

message 5545: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 664 comments Have you played Jusant Deck? I've got that and The Last Campfire installed as my next games. They're both short, indie type games with relatively straightforward plats (as far as I know)

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments I've Jusant installed, but haven't started it, and to be honest, I'm not sure if i fancy it. Climbing in games can get tedious fast

message 5547: by Equinox80 (new)

Equinox80 | 664 comments It's one I've had my eye on for a while. I'm looking forward to playing it but think I'm going to end up playing Aliens Fireteam Elite instead. If I don't start that soon I'll miss the coop boat.

Anyone tempted by Indika?

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Looks kind of interesting but not one I'm willing to pay or up my sub for

DeckardCain's Sandals (deckardcainssandals) | 2105 comments Even though I played it to death on the 360, I'm looking forward to replaying Gears of War next week. Probably one of the best (if not the) third person shooters for me, and would rank highly in my all time favs. Can't think of any that have surpassed it.

MGS3 Snake Eater Delta, I'm definitely picking up day one and should be in the same boat as Gears of War, but I've a feeling it'll be like the Silent Hill 2 remake - a lot of good things about it, but dragged down by a few too many performance issues.
