What have you been playing: before the forum was deleted?

Yeah, i was left thinking - if only Higgs' weapon of choice wasn't a guitar, it was a bit too daft for me, when it could/should have been more emotional, especially considering all that had come before. I had no problem with the wrap-up, something was definitely needed, and it did the job fine, but i really can't get behind the guitar bit. Higgs could possibly have been one of the all-time great bad guys, but they went and made a mess. Ok, maybe Higgs was fine and it was probably Sam joining in that was the problem. Definitely enjoyed it, and will likely be one of the better games of the gen for me...but it went from being neck and neck with the first game, to a distant second, all because of that choice
******* death stranding 2 spoilers *******
Yea the guitar battle was really silly but I just love HK’s bizarreness. I’d much prefer that than him playing safe. I agree though - keep the guitar just for Higgs just to tone it down a bit probably would have been better. I did find the explanation for connecting up the Australian chiral network for halting evolution to stop any future death stranding, and the countermeasures to block it so people could be free, but I think I got it. Might need to google an explanation. I did really enjoy the post Higgs boss fight story ending which was very lengthy just not the pointless let’s get Lou home bit (mainly).

I’m not sure what to play next. Nothing on my backlog appeals which are mainly games I’ve played before or past PS Plus essential games. And current PS Plus Extra/Game Pass games are not floating my boat - I’ll look harder though. Next month looks to be better. Definite plays of Mafia The Old Country, Gears of War Reloaded (MS sent me a free code as I own the Ultimate edition) and Delta Force (Battlefield rip-off). I’m on the fence to get Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater - I’ve heard at least the original was a very frustrating game so need to research it more once it’s out. Plus I need to confirm the Mafia game is 60fps - I’m not doing 30fps anymore - otherwise I’m happy to get it day one.

The next three/four months look like being a bit hard on the wallet. Mafia, Gears, Snake Eater, Borderlands 4, Hellblade 2, The Outer Worlds 2, Ghost of Yotei, and quite a few other maybes I've my eye on. Looking like being one of the better years of this gen in terms of big games
Yea my wishlist for the year is pretty long. I plan to get all of those except Borderlands and Hellblade 2. Hellblade 1 and 2 are absolutely awful though. Gave up on both of them. Graphics over game play substance.

I think Gears Reloaded might be similarly priced.
I saw Jedi Survivor is coming off the PS+ Extra game catalog soon. I want to play it but hate feeling rushed into playing something and having to get it done by a certain date. I've got it downloaded but not sure I'm in the mood for it.
I'm hoping to bring another one of my PS3 games to the boil tonight 🤞

Time to platinum 9 years and 5 months. A grind to end all grinds and makes Grid 2018 seem like a mini game. Proud of it though and is my second rarest plat.

Played a few hours of Robocop Unfinished Business, and yeah, it feels like a decent AA effort, just like Rogue City, but without a bit of the freshness. Seems to be a lot more linear, which is fine by me, and doesn't sound overly long. So it's ticking a lot of boxes for what I'm in the mood for

I'm looking forward to picking it up at some point. Have said it before but it looks and sounds a lot like Dredd (the 2012 film).
I know a lot of fans wanted Teyon to make a Dredd game following Rogue City (and Terminator Resistance) but maybe they couldn't get the rights/they were too expensive, so just essentially made a game of the Dredd film but with Robo instead and then everyone's happy!

Definitely get the Dredd comparisons, it did feel like a weird mix of the two at times.

I am slightly worried about the two trophies I've got left though. One is for having 7 specific conversations at certain points in the story and I didn't get any prompts on the 2nd one. According to the trophy guide it says this is OK as it was later confirmed to not be required but it does leave that nagging doubt.
The other remaining trophy is for 25 dodge counters on enemies which sounds easy. However, all the guides I've read say the skill to be able to do this unlocks early in the game. I've managed to unlock it at approx 2/3 of the way through and it can only be done against specific enemies. I'm having doubts that there will be enough enemies left to get this. It can technically be done after completing the story but enemy spawn counts are minimal so would be a massive baw ache to try and get then. As much as I like the game, I don't fancy another playthrough for one trophy, trying to somehow unlock the necessary skill even earlier than before.

Just this dodge counter trophy left now and thankfully I managed to find quite a few enemies last night to get the numbers up. I reckon I'm on approx
13-15 out of the 25 required now so very cautiously optimistic. I just hope there are enough enemies left now as I must be near the end.

I’ve not found anything I really want to play at the moment so I’ve decided to take a short break from gaming until Mafia release- assuming it’s 60fps which is not confirmed. I’ll probably play some multiplayer but no campaigns.

The last trophy unlocked slightly earlier than expected but that was fine by me. Aside a couple of annoying platforming sections, this is a really great game and certainly gave Uncharted a run for its money.
Another clean up done. Time to platinum - 11 years and 8 months.

Played a little of Wuchang, and seems like a decent soulslike, probably leans a bit more towards Bloodborne, more dodging and higher paced action over blocking. Have a feeling it'll be one that's beyond my capabilities though, but we'll see

Thankfully for my wallet, there aren't too many new games that appeal to me these days. It all seems to Souls likes or survival horror, neither of which appeal.
I'm still interested in Borderlands 4 but the more I watch the character trailers, the more I'm slightly put off. None of them look a patch on Maya and Axton from BL2. Will definitely keep an eye on it though and will probably still have some PSN credit when it comes out. Would be nice to play something brand new for change as well.

I've started a hard difficulty playthrough of Bodycount, the main obstacle left to the plat, but I'm not really feeling it. I don't want to start anything new as I'm away on holiday next week so will probably just chip away at this, this week.

Find 4000km worth of entertainment yourself. Nowhere near as bad as Grid but still at the ridiculous end of trophies. Leaning towards not attempting it unsurprisingly

I am aware that it's heavily influenced by System Shock 2 and compared to Bioshock etc...I've never played those (dabbled with Bioshock but it wasn't for me) but Prey is really getting its hooks in.
Earlier this year I also gave Dishonored 2 a go - same developer, very similar in a lot of ways, obviously same game engine etc. but couldn't get into that at all, but Prey yes - think I just much prefer the setting etc.
It's really hard though! Playing on one up from the very easiest difficulty (basically it's story>easy>normal>hard>uber) so I'm playing on 'easy' and it's still quite a challenge!
When I played Prey I loved it to begin with but the difficulty and then the awful way point system which was frustrating to navigate (at times) spoiled it a bit for me. I finished it but in the end glad it was over.

No idea what's next though

I've not played much of late. I'm about 2/3 through Bodycount but not enjoying it. I also think there's a frustratingly difficult bit coming up which isn't doing much for my enthusiasm. I'm going away on hols for a week so thinking I'll come back refreshed and get it done.
Looking forward to starting Jusant after it.
****** SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR DS1 AND DS2 ********
Well that was a bat sheet crazy ending, even more so than the first game. The Higgs boss fight was kinda I loved/hated it. From a game play perspective it was average at best but the craziness of it I loved - a guitar fight lol. Very very reminiscent of the end boss fight in MGS4 but with guitars. And the few minutes that followed with the giant Lou baby WTF! Daft but great. And then after that I honestly wanted to give Mr Hideo K a piece of my mind. Does he know when to finish a game and not pad it out with pointless game play. The travelling in the snow with Lou back home - not needed. The floating around in the morgue - not needed. Saying that I would have been happy with a few cut-scenes after but just not the pointless game play stuff. And the story was good in the end, confusing as you’d expect but great but not as emotive as the first game. The ending of the first game when you take Lou to the incinerator - which had a point - was a really emotional part of the story for me. DS2 ending not so emotive but still great. Saddest part was Fragile. And Elle Fanning being Lou was fine and the final final final ending suggests she might be the main character in DS3. Otherwise gameplay and story more of the same really with more options for traversal and combat. Music good but preferred the music in the first game. All in all I preferred DS1 but DS2 is still excellent. 9/10 on the r-score-o-meter. The final 3-4 missions though were pretty epic in scale and effort. Literally took me all afternoon today.
