I can’t start this book tomorrow because I’m busy. I can start it any other day.
I hope to finish my reading slump book tomorrow so it's no big deal. I can start it any day as well. Do you want to plan on starting in three days? So not tomorrow and not the day after tomorrow, but the day after that? I can do the math for the amount of chapters/pages per day.

How long do you want this read to take? I was planning on a week or so but whatever works for you.

I did the math (I hope I did it right) but we will need to ready 52-53 pages a day to finish on time. I am very flexible because I may need a few extra days with my schedule but I wont be too long.

Yup, starting tomorrow! I also looked at my book and if we read to page 52 or 53, it puts us in the middle of a chapter, so feel free to stop at 50, because that is when the chapter before ends or just read through the chapter. Just a heads up! :)

Yeah! I only read 30 pages yesterday so I’m going to read more today so that we both can discuss today after crossing the 100 page mark.

I just finished part 1, but I’ll hit 100 pages soon. I am also taking Honors Geometry in the summer so I won’t be able to discuss until later in the day. I love this book!!! Also, I need to rant about how much I hate Peck later.

I have read 106 pages and am ready to discuss. I can’t access the Spotify playlist for some reason, but that’s fine. Ok, I’m gonna start by saying some good things. First of all, I love both of the main characters. They have great personalities. They both are distinct, but I can relate to Mateo more because I don’t go outside too often and have no friends irl. However, I will say that I like Rufus more because he seems more approachable and thinks through things. Something I like about Rufus is that he doesn’t act superior towards his friends, or anyone else, and treats them with as much respect as they do. I also like how he is kind of coaxing Mateo out of his comfort zone and telling him to actually live his life. One thing that I don’t understand is why Rufus is hanging out with Mateo. They have nothing similar and are total opposites. I can see their relationship growing, but them being last friends feels like it’s been planned and doesn’t feel natural. Anyway, I’ll let you share your thoughts and sorry about rambling too much.
I agree! I think Rufus has more connections and when he would talk to his friends and was saying his goodbyes, I was honestly sad because he had built up all these great relationships and they all feel like they lost him before he was even gone.I can relate to Mateo, as well. I am very introverted and would be scared for sure if I knew that the world was going to kill me, but I still would want to go live to the fullest.
My real thing is, how can the Death-Cast callers do their jobs and not need therapy? It's actually their job to tell people that they are going to die and they have to listen to their reactions. And then they know when they come into work the next day that everyone that they called the day before was dead. I would have like mental health issues.
And can I just say, I want to sack Peck in the face? I really do.
I would probably be depressed for life if I had that job. I don’t understand how some people at Death-Cast don’t even care about Deckers. I mean, they are going to die!!! At least have some respect! I do however feel bad for some people like Andrea because she is trying to survive and giving her daughter the best she can. I can’t wait to find out more about Andrea and learn Victor’s story.Side-rant: Peck is the dumbest person to have ever lived!!! How could he even think of calling the cops on a person who is going to die that day! He is now on my Top 10 list of meanest people ever. (I haven’t really encountered many mean people in the books I read.) I don’t even care about Roof beating him up because he kind of asked for it and he did something that shows he is stone cold and isn’t human. Rant over.
Whew! That was some rant, but now that that’s out of the way, let’s get back on track. How do you think Mateo and Rufus’ relationship is going to progress? I think that Mateo will get more used to Roof after visiting his father and Lidia. (Did I mention that I love the nickname Roof!)
I already think these two are freaking adorable so I am so excited to see how they progress. I think at some point Mateo will forget his fears and just give in to his feelings. He said 'go for it' on his profile, but he still seems really paranoid. Roof seems a little more 'well, I'm going to die so I might as well try a bunch of random crap.' which is much more fun to read about.Which do you like better, Mateo or Rufus? I like them both, but I adore Rufus/Roof.
I definitely like Roof more. I would probably have his attitude if I knew I was going to die in the next 24 hours. I agree with you that it’s more fun to read. Let’s chat tomorrow after reading 50 or so pages because I want to discuss how their relationship progresses.

True! They are perfect together! It’s going to be so sad to see them die. The ending will probably make me depressed for the rest of the day after reading it.
I have this very optimistic feeling that maybe one of them lives. Like, what if one dies and has to watch the other die, making it so much more heart-wrenching for both the other boy and the reader.
That was a crazy ending! What are your thoughts? It was so sad to see Mateo die and Rufus feeling terrible after that, though I have to say that the author could have written Rufus grieving better than he has because it didn’t feel as sad and heartbreaking as it should have.
I agree! My theory is that while Rufus walks across the street in like to last sentence of the book and he's thinking about how Mateo had died and he had no arm to hold, that he died then. If he was sad and not paying attention, it is very possible that he was hit by a car!I kind of cried about Mateo's death. Not kind of, I did cry. I might have tossed my book to the side and cried a little before finishing the book. I was pretty much dead inside for the rest of the day. I thought Rufus' grieving could have been written better as well. It needed to be a little more heartbreaking, but I was pretty sad when it happened. I shouldn't be shocked, I came into this knowing they both would die but I still wasn't ready lol.

I also don’t know why Mateo didn’t do something about the fire since he is pretty smart and could have at least woken up Rufus or even gotten a fire extinguisher if he had one, so that didn’t really make sense.
I don't know why he even turned the burner on. He knew it was broken, so he probably just forgot, but I'm not sure a stove, even a broken one, can burn that fast. He totally could have lived through it.
