Hi everyone,

So many books are coming to the movies, T.V. and being re-made. One movie adaptation that is coming in October 2021 is Dune based on the book by Frank Herbert. The last movie version was in 1984 which was written and directed by David Lynch. A large cast that included Kyle MacLachlan, Patrick Stewart, Sting, Max von Sydow, Virginia Madsen, Francesca Annis etc.

The story of Dune is based 20,000 years ahead in the future. Human populations live in different planets. Duke Atreides accepts leadership of the desert planet Arrakis/Dune. This planet also has control of a value spice with special powers. Duke moves forward with his move to the planet knowing he is likely being set-up or a target by enemies who want the value spice and control of the mining operation.

Have you read Dune? Looking forward to the new movie version?

Have a good day.

Sincerely,

-Donna

Amy | 11 comments I didn't realize the 1984 Dune film was directed by David Lynch. I just might have to find time to watch it.

I have yet to read the book, I will put it on my list.

Thanks for sharing this post! I am curious to see the new film this fall.

Hi Amy,

I remember seeing Dune at the movies with friends in the 80s. The movie met with mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it. I never go by movie reviews. If I want to see a movie, I will see it and decide for myself. I think it helped that I had read the book before seeing the movie and that Sting was in the movie and I was also a fan of The Police music.

I also like David Lynch and I am a Kyle MacLachlan fan, who has starred in other David Lynch movies i.e. Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks as well as Dune.

I hope you do watch both. You can compare both movie versions! I am looking forward to watching the new version, although I have a feeling my heart will always be with the David Lynch version.

Have a good day.

-Donna
