I'm 20% in and here are my first impressions:
1. in my opinion, there is a lot of info-dumping in terms of politics (communists, French institutions(?)). basically, she's telling me the political struggles, she's not actually showing them. a character's pov suddenly gets interrupted so that the author can tell me about them.
2. I feel like the characters are a bunch of kids who are playing a game of gangsters. lol. I don't know, they don't feel like real people to me.

This book honestly was just not my cup of tea, but I can see why others like it. The Romeo & Juliet retelling was a little cleaver, but I had hard time connecting with the characters. I just couldn’t seem to care about them. I listened to this one via audiobook, and most of the guy characters sounded the same, yikes.
