Asra Nolan | 3 comments I'm am sorry if this is a duplicate discussion.

I would like to ask about some books have links to the kindle editions without listing the ASIN such as 2010: Odyssey Two (414967.2010) (not sure how to make links) and some don't Adam Link - Robot (9532095-adam-link---robot). Both have a Kindle book version but only 2010 have to link connected to the non-Kindle version while the other one does not is there a way to be able to tell if their is a Kindle version for a book from the main page or do we always have to:
1. go to the "other editions" page
2. click on "expand details"
3. then scan the list for a cover with an ASIN number
That is a very long list for people who don't even realize that there is even an ASIN number needed (took me a while to google it).

Could you please have all the Editions have a Kindle link showing if there is one for the overall book. I understand sometimes there is a change in the ASIN for the book (Asimov Galactic Novels for one) or multiple ASIN (free books editions) but I have had to (before I finally figured this out) go to Amazon through the Kindle link and do one of a few things such as look up the book in the search engine or go to the Author page (if the book is linked to it). Some I found some I didn't; but, if you were to link all the editions to one of the active ASIN for the Kindle link then it would be much easier to find old book with new Kindle editions and would help me a lot.

If you are able to link all the editions to the Kindle link could you tell me how to inform someone that they are not.

Thanks for the help/info

Emily | 17567 comments If you’re talking about the button that says the price for the Kindle edition, that signifies one exists, that is a site functionality issue and has nothing to do with librarians.
For what it’s worth, you can also filter the list of editions by format rather than scroll through.
Some books have multiple covers for the same ASIN. Only one edition can have the ASIN.

Asra Nolan | 3 comments Yes it was. I just wondered why their is no main database for a book set up like GoodReadsID;Author;KindleID;NookID;ect. Then each edition could have it's own cover;GRID;ISBN;ASIN;ect. Because that way any book that has a kindle ID can have the same connection no matter the edition. It is already that way with authors. *shrug* Haven't done much on web based data but that is how I would set up an Access data file.

Where would I go to ask this question if this is the wrong location? Because I tried to look it up and could not find something that looked right

Anyway thanks

ps I hate search engines if you couldn't tell :)

Emily | 17567 comments You can go to Goodreads Help and you can also write to Support.
(If you would like a staff member to respond, you should write to Support as well.)

Asra Nolan | 3 comments Ok well Help won't help (lol) and I wonder would Support be a little to strong; because, I just want to understand how the database is set up and why one cover would have the Kindle link and one would not even though neither have the ASIN link number listed in it's info.

That is why I came to the Groups sections :) so that I could learn more about how the databases worked. I had seen some discussion about how ASIN can only be added to one edition but the link is in some, and then not others. I would just like to talk to some people how this is done and I thought the Librarians would have the knowledge I seek. If you would know the right Group/subsection to go to please let me know.

:)
