Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hi Kat - for Occident, if a book has an FBI agent in the precis (one of the MCs), is that enough for 'america' ~ since the FBI is a US agency?

(I know this is set in the US, but it hasn't been tagged :)

The Runaway Cat (I want to read this for another challenge, so just trying to double-up ;)

Jane - If it helps your argument - the FBI is only allowed to operate within the US states and territories. Anything else goes to the CIA. 😉

A character being an FBI agent (even if they are restricted to working in the US) does not necessarily prove the book is set in the US. Authors often take liberties when writing. However the precis does say they are fighting a crime lord from Baton Rouge - that is in the US, Louisiana to narrow it down some, and would qualify the book.

MountainKat | 31636 comments ‼️ Clarification ‼️

Per the instructions for everything using the initial publication date:

If there is a date at the top of the editions page, use it!

I ONLY look for the earliest dated English language edition, if there is NO DATE at the top of the editions page. I have made exceptions for claims up to this point, but going forward if there is a date listed at the top of the editions page THAT IS THE ONLY DATE THAT CAN BE USED TO QUALIFY YOUR BOOKS!

I understand that often an edition releases early, but I will only be using the first published date at the top of the editions page if one is available!

I will make no further exceptions for this!

Thanks Kat - I totally missed Baton Rouge (didn't compute to me as a US city even though I should have seen that!)

For R is for Rat - Read a book with an antagonist or a bad guy.

Would a tag of 'emotional abuse/gaslighting' or 'bullying/hazing' work?

Thanks!

No, those do not necessarily imply that the 'bad guy' is part of the story - only that those are part of a character's history.

MountainKat | 31636 comments OK, everyone - I am headed out for the evening. So I will not be here to end the date like I usually do. I will be using the GR time stamp when checking last minute posts. Please remember not to edit your posts after the date ends!!

Because I haven't made it through all the team threads, the deadline for corrections will be extended 24 hours until Sunday 3 PM US EDT. I will try to post the next qualifications when I get home, otherwise it will be tomorrow morning - my time.

message 365: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31636 comments Notice for the final week:

This week, I will not be correcting any completion posts, but will be checking the threads. If the completions are incorrect or missing elements and are not corrected and reposted, the book will not count. Teammates, help each other out! Double check for qualifiers, MPG romance, page count and that ALL required info is in all completion posts! Because I will be checking the threads, please repost all corrections even though I am not the one requesting them! I will accept a link to any edition as long as the page count in the completion post is the first edition Kindle page count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. I am looking for one of those three things when confirming your books!

PLEASE, include that your post is a repost when making corrections and don't forget which book number it is for you!!

In the Scavenger Hunt thread, I will only be listing the claims that are complete. The first complete post for any book will claim it. If the book doesn't qualify, I will still comment stating so. Follow the dots here - if the book is listed, all is good. If the book isn't listed, but I didn't comment, something is wrong/missing in your completion post - and the book can be claimed by another participant.

I will only be answering questions in the Q&A or Scavenger Hunt threads! If you want a quicker response, post in the Q&A thread.

Laks | 1953 comments MountainKat... when you post the details for next week can you elaborate on the "bad/antagonist guy" ? Do you mean the MC to be a bad guy or will a tag of "villain" do? Will tags like - "bad ass MC " or bad boy love" or "anti hero" or "tortured hero" work?

Thank you.

No, the MC does not have to be a bad guy. A tag of villain would work, but none of your other examples would.

MountainKat | 31636 comments Date 8 - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 8.

Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.

Don't make more work for yourself than necessary - if the qualifier is in the title or on the cover, use it! You don't have to go searching for tags to make it work. 😊 If the link you use for the book is the same you are using for the precis or cover - say so (see above edition or something similar)! The less links I need to open the better! That saves us all some steps. When using tags/shelves as a qualifier, please link to the selected book's top shelves page that contains your qualifying tag (NOT the link for the shelf - that would still leave me searching for the book) in your completion post. Also include the number of tags and the top shelves page number - this information is extremely helpful if the tag moves or the link is broken and both happen frequently. And please double check your links!

You may use separate editions of your Scavenger Hunt books to qualify for the different tasks. Links MUST be provided.

R is for Rainbow - Read an LGBTQ+ book or a book with all the colors of the rainbow on the cover (ROYGB).

To qualify, your book needs to be a LGBTQ+ romance OR the cover needs to have all of the following covers on the it - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green AND Blue. To qualify as LGBTQ+ book, this would need to be evident in the precis, title, series, tags or lists. Please provide any necessary information and links in your completion posts. To qualify using the cover, the listed colors would need to be clear and obvious. The colors do not need to make up a certain percentage of the cover, but they ALL must be present and obvious enough I am not guessing about them. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion post.

R is for Rat - Read a book with an antagonist or a bad guy.

To qualify for this task your book can be MPG (Main Page Genre) 'Suspense', alone or combined as in 'Romantic Suspense'. Your book could also qualify using tags. Tags such as 'bad guy' or 'evil character' would work. For this task, the title, series title, precis or lists will not be allowed to qualify your books. Anti-heroes do not qualify for this task - they are still the hero. Tags describing the hero/heroine will also not work, such as 'bad boy/girl' or 'bad ass hero/heroine'.

R is for Rave - Read a book with an average GR rating of or over 4.25.

To qualify for this task, the average rating for your selected book needs to be 4.25 or higher. This information can be found on the main book page under the title. Please include the average rating in your completion post. If the average rating is likely to change over the course of the date, i.e. the book is new or has few ratings, it might be advisable to take a screen shot. Also, if your rating is significantly lower than the average, perhaps wait to rate the book until after the date ends.

R is for Reality - Read an MPG Contemporary Romance book.

To qualify, the selected book needs to have 'Contemporary Romance' as a Main Page Genre. For this task, 'Contemporary' and 'Romance' need to be combined.

To clarify - MPG tag of " Contemporary" alone will not work even if there is a separate MPG romance tag ??

Is this tag okay ?
"MM Romance >Contemporary "

MountainKat | 31636 comments Laks wrote: "To clarify - MPG tag of " Contemporary" alone will not work even if there is a separate MPG romance tag ??"

Correct, MPG Contemporary will not work even if there is Romance in another MPG.

Laks wrote: "Is this tag okay ?

I will accept this. As long as 'Romance' and 'Contemporary' are in the same tag - that works.

Date 8 - R - FINAL DATE!!

R is for Rave
- Read a book with an average GR rating of or over 4.25.

Also, if your rating is significantly lower than the average, perhaps wait to rate the book until after the date ends..

Remember books must be 90 pages (first edition English language Kindle) and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, August 20 @ Midnight US EDT to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #3 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts! I will not be correcting any completion posts, but will be checking the threads. If they are missing elements and are not corrected ANDreposted, they will not count. Teammates, help each other out! Double check for qualifiers, MPG romance, page count and that all info is in all completion posts! PLEASE, include that your post is a repost when making corrections and don't forget which book number it is for you!!

*🌹*BONUS ULTIMATE SCAVENGER HUNT ROSES AVAILBLE FOR THIS DATE!!*🌹*
To qualify for this bonus rose, you will need to find a book that fits ALL of the called tasks for this round!

B is for Buddy
A is for Army
C is for Colorado
H is for Bait
E is for Eight
L is for Lace
O is for Occident
R is for Rave

To make a claim for the Ultimate Scavenger Hunt Rose, post in the Scavenger Hunt thread with all the required information. Please identify each claim as an Ultimate Scavenger Hunt Rose book. Each successful claim will earn your team 5 bonus roses!!

Traditional Scavenger Hunt Roses are available as usual, using all the possible task requirements for R - Rainbow, Rat, Rave and Reality.

Scavenger Hunt Required Number - 5 OR Required Month - February:

To qualify for Scavenger Hunt Roses for Date 5, the initial publication date or the first edition Kindle page count must include the number 5. If there is a date at the top of the editions page, USE IT. Otherwise I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format (ONLY if there is not first published date at the top of the editions page!). Do not convert the month to a number. If using the first edition Kindle page count, make sure you use an edition labeled as first edition OR released on the initial publication date OR is the earliest dated English language Kindle edition. Please include in your Scavenger Hunt claims how your book fits this requirement. Following the guidelines above for initial publication date, you may also use books initially published in February of any year. Please include which qualification you are using and how your books work in your completion posts.

This required number or month is only required for traditional Scavenger Hunt Rose claims. This number or month is NOT required for Ultimate Scavenger Hunt Roses!

Yes. Basically if you use an edition labeled as first edition OR one released on the first publication date OR the earliest dated English language edition - any of those would work. In this case the edition released on October 7, 2013 would be the one to use - the other Kindle edition isn't dated. (But they both had the same page count.)

I don't care what edition is linked - I will check the editions page for every book that isn't labeled as the first edition. 😊
