Undone - (Amazon Prime)

Although my love for time travel/parallel realities has never waned since I joined this group over a decade ago, I am sorry my contributions have been very seldom lately! But once in a while something just ignites my lazy soul and compels me to share that love again.

This time, that particular something that sparked my soul was a powerful, surreal and dazzlingly entertaining drama that I stumbled upon on Amazon Prime (UK).

It is called:

Undone

and was released in 2019 so perhaps some of you have already watch it. It's a single season of 8 episodes, 25mins each, filmed in the rarely used rotoscope animation style (real actors performing but traced over).

This method of animation takes a little getting used to at first but there is a reason for it and the performances are so compelling and entertaining, you will hopefully embrace the style very quickly as I did.

I won't talk about the story other than it's very much grounded in reality yet delightfully surreal, disturbing, funny and suspenseful in what the whole concept might or might not be leading to. I urge you not to even read the synopsis and just trust it to take you on a brain warping journey through it's eight compelling episodes.

I am personally satisfied with the season as a complete whole but apparently season 2 is in the works but was delayed due to Covid.

I rate this amongst my all time favourite surreal pieces of television.

In other words it's just plain magnificent.

Season 2 is released! Not sure when it released as I just got back on Prime for a one week offer. I wasn't sure if it was ever going to get another season even though it was rumoured to be worked on but no one seems to be talking about it or is just simply under promoted and off my ost people's radar.

Season 1 was superb and I've just watched the first two episodes of season 2 which is taking the narrative on another level. Terrific stuff.

I hope more of you get to watch this even if you don't subscribe to prime. I don't anymore but I take advantage of their frequent offer to try prime for 1 week for £1 or occasionally they even give me a free month to lure me back. So I have it for a week and intend to watch out this series within four days remaining!

I just finished season 2.

Guys you want time travel, it's here in spades even if it's a mystery as to whether its real or all in someone's head. Either way, it's a mindblowing narrative.

This second season is a rollercoaster ride of genius storytelling.

The icing on the cake is that this is a COMPLETE series. Not often we get to say that huh? How many times do we invest our precious time on TV shows only to be screwed over with premature cancellations?

My favourite series ever...imho of course!

I will tell you that Undone was superb. Bob Odenkirk is a fantastic actor, that's just a given. However, the real surprise is Rosa Salazar, the protagonist, who I fell in love with as an actress and a character.

I actually have been working with a producer on a script and Salazar is the #1 pick for us. All we have to do is get the almighty $$$'s lined up.

The storyline of Undone is wonderful. Built around family, well thought out, written with a beginning, middle, and end. I was sorry to have it end, but so happy that they completed it (if that makes sense).

Salazar was also in a mini-series called Brand New Cherry Flavor which was extremely bizarre. Good acting in that too, but the weirdness will turn a lot of people off.

Brand New Cherry Flavor was not my wife's cup of tea. I enjoyed it, although the rib vagina birthing kittens was a whole new kind of weird even I was not ready for.

Undone. Definitely get it in. Short episodes, two seasons, easy to complete.

Although, the series felt complete for me...Season 3 is happening! Prime Video announced it scheduled for 28th April 2023.

That is very strange. Not unwelcome, but it certainly gives season 2 a whole different feel if there is a season 3.
(view spoiler)[ To me, season 2 seemed to indicate that she was not really time traveling at all, that this adventure was all in her head, but she has 'worked through it' and reconciled to be happy with the life she has. Or perhaps she has been traveling, but the end of season 2 is really the end of her adventure. The life she leads moving forward is going to be one of internal peace.
A season 3 means that she really is time traveling, she is really there back in her original timeline for a visit, and things are about to get even stranger.
