"On a mission? How would that work, would they be okay with that?" It sounded fascinating, and something she'd never done before.

"Well, I'd have to ask my moms and youd have to swear not to say anything you saw, but i dont see why not. Theyd probably let you come."
"I wouldn't tell. Trust me, I get the secret organization business."
"Then it should be fine. Ill just warn you now though. The Legends....theyre weird. And a bit chaotic. Our methods dont always make since, but weve saved time more than weve destroyed it."
Alya shrugged. "I mean, my family is chaotic, too, so it's okay. My uncle flies around in a suit of armor and another uncle is a god. And another turns into a huge green monster so there's not much that phases me," she told her with a smile.
"Good because Ray has a suit that can fly and turn into the size of an atom. Nate can literally turn into steel. Sara's been dead four times, Ava's a clone, Zari has a magic totem that gives her telekinesis. Amaya has a totem that allows her to harness the power of any animal and Mick... Mick just has a flamethrower."
"Hey, sounds good to me, I'd love to meet for superheros. Most people would probably freak out, but I think I'm more awed than anything." She smiled a little. "How about you? Any powers?"
"No. I have photographic memory, though. I know four different languages and can use 15 different kinds weapons." She said, she didn't really like to brag, but Alya asked. "You?"
((sorry!))"Photographic memory?" Alya was impressed again. She nodded at the rest of it; she was impressed, yes, but not shocked like some other people did. "Nah. I can run faster than an average person should be able to, and I can use lots of weapons and take someone down bare-handed, probably kill if I wanted to. Which I don't."
"Thats cool. I don't kill either. Sara's really strict when it comes to that kind of stuff. She doesn't want me to end up on the same path she was on."
"That's understandable. My family and the agency some are involved in try not to kill, too. It would just look bad." She didn't want to pry about the Sara person Niki was talking about, especially since her own mom had killed for a living.
"Your probably so confused with all the names I'm using." Niki realized. "Sorry. I'm not used to talking to people who don't know the Legends."
"It's okay. I mean, I'm a little confused but it' happens, right?" She shrugged. "And I do find the whole time travelling spaceship really neat." She leaned back in her seat a little, tucking some strands of red hair behind her ear.
"So have a family of superheroes too?" She asked.
"Yeah. My aunts and uncles are kind of insane. One of them, well, she can move things with her mind, show people nightmares. explaining my uncles, well, that's a bit strange, but one of them has this suit, it's iron, and he's kinda a big deal, while another has enhanced strength and is... ridiculously moralistic it gets kinda aggravating." She smiled fondly anyway.
"Well. Seems like we've both got some pretty strange families, that's for sure." She said. What would happen if their families met? Ray and whoever this iron suit guy would probably get into a battle of brains. Sara would probably try to convince the one who gave people nightmares that her magic didn't work on her. Mick would probably try to fight all of them.
"That's definitely for sure," Alya agreed. And without even knowing what Niki was thinking, said, "if you take me to meet your family, maybe I can have you meet mine. It sounds like could be cool."
"Okay." She said. Most people didn't, but she liked meeting new people, even though the only time she ever did was on missions when she had to go undercover in some place
"So. So you think your family would be okay with meeting me? Or... newer people, I guess?" She asked.
"Yeah, probably. Ava's always telling me to make new friends and everyone there's pretty nice as long as you don't take Mick's beer or tell Nate Elvis sucks or turn out to be some big evil person who's trying to kill us all so I don't see why not."
Alya laughed at that, but it was a laugh that showed she liked it. They sounded almost like the Avengers in terms of having their quirks and the fact they were a larger family of hero type people. "It sounds amazing. Well, I'm not a big evil person trying to kill anyone, so that's a good thing. I'd love to meet your family," she told Niki with a smile that lit up her freckled face and blue eyes. ((I'm so sorry for the delay))
She laughed, "Good. I'll hail the waverider later and run in past Sara just to be sure." ((its fine I haven't really been on a lot the last week))
"Of course. I get it, checking with parents and the team is probably the best idea." She smiled. "But I'd they do say yes, I'm excited."
"Me too. Maybe we'll have a mission to go on. That would be so fun. I like undercover the best. Especially when its with famous dead people because its like so many people know who this person is and we saved them so, part of that goes to us for keeping them alive."
"So you get to actually meet with the famous person?" She could just imagine, going back in time to an era without electricity or internet. Oh, wow, maybe sh could even met her uncle before he ended up frozen for seventy years. Not that he'd know her, of course, but it would fun nonetheless, especially if she had her phone. Blackmailing Uncle Steve would bee hilarious. And something she'd be scolded for later, no doubt, but it would be worth it.
"Yeah, we do." She said, "Its really cool. but you can't tell them anything about the future, especially not theirs. The smallest things can screw up history. But us legends have a tendency to be the chainsaw, not the scalpel."
"Is that because telling people out their history could cause them to actually change what they do and their actions? Since I assume many would dislike their history or how they die or something."
"No not really. It more like they're suddenly pressured to do something. But sometimes it's because they don't like what happens. It really just depends on the person."
"This is all so fascinating. Wait, so...you don't have to get into this if you want to, but why are you at the school of you grew up with the group? Did they want you to get an education before heading back to help in time?"
"Its not the education they were worried about." Niki said, "Ray could have home schooled me. They wanted me to meet people my age and make friends that I'm going to see more than once in my life."
Alya smiled at that, maybe a little wistfully. "Yeah, that makes sense. I know for me my mom kind of wanted the same thing, wanted me to branch out', if you will." She sighed and propped her chin in her hands. "So in that regard, how do you like it here so far?"
Niki shrugged "I guess its okay. I haven't really made any friends before you, so that's part of the problem. I already know most of what they're teaching, so classes are boring. It is nice to be around people my age, though. Even if I don't really talk to any of them. On the Waverider, Im the youngest by a generation."
"That's understandable, I can't imagine being the only one of my generation at the Compound." She honestly didn't like that idea at all. "Is this strange then, being somewhere around more people your age? Or, our ages, I guess?"
"Yeah. Its kind of weird. Mostly because I'm so used to talking to the same eight people Im just not very good at communicating so other people can understand. I've spent so much of my life either on the waverider or at a hospital that being a normal kid is really overwhelming sometimes."
Alya's eyes widened. "At a hospital?" She asked quickly, the first thing that came to mind from what Niki had just stated. She then recovered herself and nodded. "I'm sure you'll get better, communicating can end up as a challenge, since you did grow up in a different environment than most. I kind of get that, too. I never went to regular schooling, though I do see more than eight people, so..."
"Yeah. Im sure I'll get used to it. its all just so...new." She said. "And yeah, I've spent a lot of time at hospitals. When I was born, my parents left me in the cold and I got hypothermia. Ever since the sickness never really stopped. I was diagnosed with stage 3 leukemia when I was eight. Im cancer free now, but I'm not recovered."
Alya gasped. "I am so sorry," she whispered, her heart going out to her new friend. Her parents, her birth parents, had given her up to an orphanage, but they hadn't left her in the cold streets, which was what Alya thought had happened with Niki based on what she was hearing now. "I'm really sorry about all of that, you deserve better. I'm glad you're cancer free, though," she added quietly.
"Yeah me too." Her mind flashed back to too many painful memories. She changed the subject before she got lost in the memories like she did too often. "Enough about me. What about you. I don't really know that much about you."
Alya nodded. "Very blunt, but sure. What do you want to know?" She couldn't tell everything for safety, but she was definitely open to talk about some things.
She shrugged "Anything. What's your favorite color. Who's your favorite person. Whered you grow up. mostly useless information."
"Hmm. Well, my favorite color is probably blue, a lighter, brighter blue like a sun-kissed summer sky. Its cheerful and refreshing, I suppose. My mom's my favorite person--she taught me family isn't just blood, and to stand up for myself, and that if family's good, to be loyal to them. She taught me practically all I know." Alya chewed on her lip at the last question. "I grew up in New York, the City first, then upstate. It's a nice state. A bit humid in the summer, though." She didn't know if she should bring the next thing up, but she did anyway. "I wasn't born in the States though."
"I wasn't either." Niki said, "I actually was born in Greece and spent the first seven years of my life there. English is my second language"
"Greece? That's really neat, I've never been but I've heard it's beautiful. English is my second, too. Russian is my first, I was born there and then adopted and moved to the United States when I was almost six." Alya stiffened slightly as she mentioned this; it was one of those topics that she absolutely disliked for where more detail could lead, but she didn't say anything more about it.
"It is beautiful." She said "I haven't been back since I was adopted, though. And that was over seven years ago."
"Do you think you'd ever go back?" Alya asked.
"I don't know. Maybe some day." Not now. She couldn't now. The amount of trouble she would cause...
"Fair enough. I guess you're pretty busy with everything else from school to helping out with your time travel, right?" She asked as she redid her hair and placed into a huge bun atop her head. "Can you speak Greek, though? I can speak Russian, and also French, Spanish, and German. I'm learning Italian now. It's all kind of fun, learning new languages," the redhead mused.
"Yeah. I speak Greek, English Spanish, French, Russian, German, Arabic, and some Latin. I never learned Italian, though. Its fun to learn all the different languages and then go somewhere and actually know how to speak what they are."
Alya's mouth gaped open at this. "I--wow. I mean, yes, I agree with you, but that's...a lot! A lot a lot." Then again, she herself spoke six including Italian that she was learning, which many probably found to be a lot, but eight? "That's impressive."
Niki blushed a little. She didn't like complements. "Thanks?"
