Per GLSEN - The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights is holding a public hearing next week, June 7-11, on improving enforcement of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. They want to hear from students, families, educators, and advocates about combating discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and all forms of sex discrimination, including sexual harassment.
This is a critical and unique opportunity to tell ED OCR why we need nondiscrimination protections that enumerate sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
You can submit a comment directly on the government website, or via GLSEN (with suggested wording, which I recommend making more simple and personal ) here - https://act.glsen.org/a/title-ix-publ...
(I kept their first paragraph - "I urge you to revise Title IX regulations to define “on the basis of sex” to include “on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, sex stereotypes, or sex characteristics (including intersex traits).” " - but added a personal brief and clear statement of the need for this protection.
An email is required to submit, but other identifiers are optional on the GLSEN site.)
