The only interesting thing about fourteen-year-old Jena is other people. Her mother disappeared when she was a baby, and her best (and only) friend, Sisi, is not just the lost heir to a noble Numbered house, but also the Kingdom’s most famous beauty. Jena herself is just awkward, anxious, and often alone: not exactly heroic material. But when a letter summons Sisi to the royal court, both girls find their own futures, and the Kingdom’s, in Jena’s hands. Sisi, caught between the king and the crown prince, searches for a magical secret the Prince is willing to kill to keep. Jena can save her: but only if she is willing to let her go, maybe forever. It’s hard to do that when she’s in love with Sisi herself.

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 3571 comments It has been 10 days since I started this but I still haven't been able to get past halfway through the second chapter....this is just not grabbing my attention. Still, I hope to finish this within the next couple of days no matter what.

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 3571 comments 11% in still can't completely get into this, but I'm going to try today....though I might end up restarting this in July. I don't even know why I am so uninterested, I was really excited to start this one :/

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 3571 comments I just read the rest of this in the last two days, and my perspective completely changed! I just loved the second half of this, it wasn't a slog to get through and I actually couldn't stop reading! I can't even believe I ended up really enjoying this, and I love where the ending has left us! I hope there'll be more in this world because there was a lot left unresolved which could make for fodder for more books!
