We did this category a couple of years back, but it seems like a good time to do it again. Please nominate a mystery/crime/thriller/ novel or true crime account that has at some point in time become either a tv series or a feature film.

As always, please do not nominate your own book. If your nomination wins the poll vote then you are de facto discussion leader, so if you don't want to do that, don't offer a nomination.

Let the nominating begin!

Sounds good. It's already on the group shelf, but it was 8 years ago so it's a yes.

I'm going to nominate In the Heat of the Night: The Original Virgil Tibbs Novel, by John Dudley Ball, the first in the series. I've been wanting to read this forever.

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 702 comments I'll nominate The Killings at Badger's Drift by Caroline Graham. I'm working my way through the 21 seasons of the tv show, Midsomer Murders. Interesting that she only wrote 7 books that led to this long-running series.

I read that a few months back. I really enjoyed it. Great movie too!

Have fun with the show, Suzy. I used to love watching it, then ...

Caroline Graham actually appeared on one episode of the series.

I love the film. I bought the book yesterday so even if it doesn't win, I'll still be reading it.

I thought after saying I'm working my way through 21 seasons, that this was a bit ambitious. I see that the original Barnaby will exit at some point which makes me wonder if it will hold up. We only watch occasionally, so not sick of it yet. :)

It's only been the last couple of seasons that weren't so hot. The original Barnaby was the best!!

message 12: by Bill (new)

Bill I'll nominate Don't Say a Word by Andrew Klavan. It'll be interesting to see how it compares to the movie.

I'll be putting up the poll tomorrow, so if there is anyone wanting to make a last minute nomination, this is the time.

I got excited for a moment because I thought my library actually had this available online so I could take part this month!

But it's actually Don’t Say a Word - He told me not to tell, but one day the hurting had to stop by Kate Marshall. They don't have In the Heat of the Night either

I do have a copy of Case Histories so will have to vote for that instead but I really liked wanted to read either Bill or Nancy's nominations ( I've read The Killings at Badger's Drift a while ago so might be able to join in if that one is chosen)

Oh, that's awful! No interlibrary loan?

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) Well, it looks like I better dig out my copy of Case Histories.

Sorry, Nancy, I voted for In the Heat of the Night but it doesn't look like it will win. I know you will enjoy it anyway though.

Thanks, RJ, not to worry. I'll be reading it here shortly despite the low number of votes. Popular tv wins out every time. sigh.

My version of In the Heat of the night, is an adaptation for the stage of the original novel. It's by Matt Pelfry. It may be more accessible and was also excellent.

I didn't realize it had been on the stage as well. That's awesome.

I'm ready to do the buddy read for In the Heat of the Night.
Any time works for me - let me know when you want to start.
Do you want to set up a discussion thread?
Anyone else want to join? RJ?

I can set it up, for sure. Thursday is my first truly free day this week, so why don't we start then?

I won't re-read, but I'll be happy to comment.
