Men were heroes but women were sensible (chapter 10) -- Do others agree with this generalization?

Every generalization may be too far-fetched. Doubtlessly there are thousands of exceptions. The opposite phrase "men were cowards but women were stupid" could also get many apparent confirmations in special cases.

But it is curious that Caldwell, being a woman, did choose this particular generalization.
