What’s it like to be a girl? You’re allowed to be pretty, poised, polite but don't be too confident. Don’t embrace yourself. Society doesn't want that. Don’t act too smart, don’t have an opinion, after all, you’re just a woman.

We refer to ships by the pronoun ‘she’ but the moment you raise your voice, you are deemed characterless. You’re shamed for acting like a ‘girl’. You’re shamed for not acting like a ‘girl’. They look down upon you for not liking things a girl should as said by society. You’re immediately not like other girls. You’re drawing attention. You’re mannerless. Men keep misinterpreting what you say to support their own selfish agendas.

You’re aren’t allowed to have a general interest in anything without being ridiculed for it. Do you like pink and dolls? You’re a ‘typical girl’. Do you like boots and sports? You’re trying too hard.

You have to be beautiful and cute. You have to be how they like you. You have to sit still, look pretty. You shouldn't be skinny or chubby. You have to be perfect. If you’re skinny, go gain some muscles. If you’re chubby, starve yourself. You’re fat-shamed and skinny shamed.

When you try to have an opinion, you’re a hypocrite. Being a girl is having to deal with the fact that men raise their issues only when a woman is talking about hers. It's having to check both sides of the road not only for vehicles but for men, especially at night.

They want you to be safe and protected. But you’re not safe. You’re not safe anywhere. You're not safe at school, at home, on the road or with an officer. They expect you to be strong because you mature early. But you’re a kid. You’re supposed to feel safe, not strong. You’re generally viewed as weak because you’re a woman. It’s having to silence yourself. That's what it feels like to be a girl.

It's not all men. But it's too many. Boys will not be Boys. No, not anymore. Boys will be held responsible for their actions just like any other human being. Women rights are human rights.
