Aelin jumped in her seat, startled as her books fell to the floor. She managed to stop the inevitable loud noise by grabbing them up right before it was too late, slowly putting them on the small stool beside her as she looked at the snake that had suddenly appeared in front of her. She got out of her chair and crouched down in front of it, a smile on her face when she held her hand out.
As someone who regularly practiced magic, there were two options. Either someone was playing a prank on her - if so, they seemed to be very good at what they did as the loveless creature looked alike to the ones she had seen at home next to where her adopted mother worked at the funeral home - and didn’t know that she spent all of middle school begging her family to let her have a rattlesnake after learning to handle the ones her cousin let her hold and sort of take care of, or - and this was the less likely option as venomous snakes usually did not appear in libraries, the nope rope had found it’s way inside through an open window somewhere inside the large space where books lined the walls.
Either way Aelin didn’t mind as one; she loved to see magic no matter what it was, and two, she equally loved creatures that most people didn’t like very much as they were slimy or crawly or something equally unappealing. And so she let her hand stay where it was, inches away from the snake, and watched to see what it would do.

Hannah chuckled softly, watching as the girl dropped her books and jumped a little. Already, this was--wait, what? She stared, watching in shock as the girl actually got up and went almost face to face with it.
Most people would have screamed by now, and yet this one hadn't? In fact, she looked fascinated. And held a hand out with a grin on her face. "Oh, come on," she muttered under her breath. This was just ridiculous.
This was not going according to plan at all, and Hannah set her book down in agitation and leaned even closer, watching. She took a deep breath and had the illusion-snake snarl at the girl, fangs dripping still and sharp, glistening in the moonlight coming through the windows, a lifelike sound. She then made its tail rattle with a deadly, dangerous sound, the illusion prepped to strike.
