Welcome to the Luck of the Titanic Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on June 20th and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

Chapters 1 - 8
(view spoiler)[This is far easier of a read than I expected but I'm not upset about it. It's interesting reading a book around an event that you already know what's going to happen (the Titanic is going to sink). It'll be interesting to see who survives and what happens during that chaos.
I read this before bed so I don't have too many thoughts that I remember, but I did save some quotes.
"One comet in, one comet out."
"... to the Chinese, death is just a continuation of life on a higher plane with our ancestors."
"But when I'm by myself, the dark waits to ambush me, so I won't give it the chance." (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1-8

(view spoiler)[ Its a very easy read (and thank God) because I am trying to get out of this reading slump.
can't really say much on the characters because I'm not too sure how we're feeling yet.
The worst part about this book is that we all know that the titanic sinks right and we also know about the Jack and Rose story where one of them doesn't survive. I have a hunch that... I know you're thinking it too.(view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 9 - 16

Oh the foreshadowing. It's interesting reading about an event that I know a decent amount about and seeing references to the lifeboats, and how the number 4 is unlucky with all the number 4 things she sees, and then this quote: "The afterlife certainly features prominently in the decorating here. But is a vessel in the middle of the ocean really the place to be constantly reminded of death?"
Another quote I liked: "Sometimes you can't forgive because it cheapens the people you love."
The bubby cubby - lol - I haven't heard of that one yet.
I knew there was a ton of racism against Asians around World War II, but I honestly wasn't aware of how bad it was prior to that. It's definitely something I will be aware of going forward and will seek out resources to learn more about as I feel like this is yet another thing my American education failed me on.
I wonder if there's a little bit of a thing starting with Bo.
I really wish I was reading this as a physical book so I could flip back to the maps at the beginning. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I'm surprised she's been able to get away with her ruse as long as she has. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm glad she finally got her chance to perform for the circus guy. I hope it goes okay and that no one gets hurt. They're performing acrobatics on a moving ship without safety so of course my anxiety is all rared up. lol
It's also interesting this hint of *something* with Bo. I wonder what's going to happen. It sucks because I'm already guessing who is going to make it and who won't because we all know what's coming. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished! I'm about to write my review and...wow. It's such an interesting story, but the whole time you have that underlying thought of they're on the freaking Titanic, there is no way that this can end well.

Chapters 26 - end
(view spoiler)[So I was definitely surprised by the ending - that is NOT how I expected it go! Overall I enjoyed this book, but I didn't LOVE it. When the ship started to sink I think things kind of started to fall apart. All of a sudden Bo is being all lovey with Valora, Jamie finally understands what his sister has been asking, and so many other random things. I don't really have much more to say other than that - it was good! (hide spoiler)]
