Hi, just 2 or 3 months ago I read a sample of a new book that was deliberately written in the style of Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars. I loved what I read but lost whatever link I had followed to that sample, and I can't find it anywhere. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I have looked and looked but am starting to think maybe I dreamed it.

John Varley wrote a series of novels back a decade or so ago that were very intentionally influenced by Heinlein. In particular, Red Lightning (2nd book in the series) begins with a 1st person narration by Ray (don't call him Ramon), a young Mars-born teen, aboard a spaceship to Earth. That voyage, the 1st person narration and its style all remind one strongly Podkayne's similar opening narration of her trip to Earth.
That's the one! It's the Thunder and Lightning series. Thank you thank you thank you. I think I've read John Varley before but it had been a while. I think I will enjoy these books very much.
