Do you visualise Characters and the world while reading the book? Are you able to imagine them in your mind?

Let us know here!

Meenu | 19 comments I do visualise the world. I visualise the characters except their face.I've never been able to visualize a face

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 945 comments I visualize books but I don't do it as much as other people. If a book is hard to get through or if it's even the slightest bit confusing I can't visualize it. If I can visualize it really well though I dream about it at night and I'm in the story. It's sorta fun

Milind (milindkapadiya) I visualize things only if I have seen something similar in my life. If a book mentions something that I have never seen, like a type of color or a bird, then I can’t visualize it at all. I can also visualize characters, but cannot visualize their faces so I just slap a face that I’ve seen in a movie or tv show onto them.

frannie I like visualizing books because it helps me escape from the world we live in now. I usually make up a character's features, no matter what the book says.

I try to visualise Characters and the world, the places in my mind but I am not successful each time. Sometimes I am able to see a clear picture in my mind and sometimes its blurred. But characters are the most difficult to imagine for me.
Whatever be it, my reading experience is same in both cases.

stu (blobmustardsprinkles) | 505 comments I totally visualize characters from books but, I guess I visualize them different from how there supposed to look, cause i search the character up later...!

Palash (naikon) | 7 comments I always visualize world, events and characters in my head. It enhances my reading experience but slows down my reading speed.

Austin George | 471 comments Yes. I visualise characters with the faces blurred and I imagine the surroundings with the given details.

Fly (fly-me-to-the-moo) I am aphantasiatic, so I find the whole idea of visualizing characters strange and fascinating :) what I lack in visuals I make up for in voices - every reading experience is full cast audio for me!

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 382 comments I use to visualize the world, characters, and every thing. Vividly. I would leave my body and it was like was full on dreaming it. So real, it was amazing. Sometimes if I could read for hours on hours I'd finish a book and suddenly realize that I still lived in the real world.

After getting tinnitus I don't. I'm told it's the anxiety that is making it hard to get back to that level of visualization. I think they're right. When I got back to myself more less depression/anxiety I almost sunk into the books like I use to. Right now visualization is hard. But practice, practice I'm sure I'll get back to it. At least I still enjoy reading.

Unknown Reader | 180 comments I don’t only visualize while reading, i also visualize the same thing when I’m not reading. Every scene is very vivid. Sometimes, I will reread some scenes just to get a better idea,

Honestly, this is the best part of reading.

message 14: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nathan-93) I don't know, it just happens in my head as I read...
I don't consciously make an effort to visualize :D
