Answering my own fucking question, i can't even pick a book. IT'S JUST TOO MUCH, EVERYTHING SOUNDS AWESOME. H E L P
i'm stuck in YA limbo reading the vampire academy books but i have a week off starting on the 14th so i'll definitely start Brilliance! it sounds super interesting and i'm quite excited. i've never read much sci-fi so i want to try some classics as well. we'll see!

I'm reading Diaspora by Greg Egan. So far it's a fucking trip and idk if I'll survive it. I wanted to go hardcore sci-fi since I usually tap out and choose fantasy-sci fi or something softer. (my excuse is that most sci fi classics are written by woman hating old men who wouldn't know how to write a three dimensional female character if she sat on his face.) We'll see how it goes.
Oh god, yes. I noticed that while looking for recs, there aren't many women among the authors and frankly that made me really uneasy. Sci-fi and fantasy open the possibility for male authors to get away with all sorts of bullshit.
i finished brilliance and... it was a huge disappointment. manly manpain and james bond protagonist. AND it ended with a cliffhanger. i'm not gonna read the sequel because i literally couldn't care less. one of the main reasons why i'm not really into sci-fi is probably that i pick the worst sci-fi books. ugh. i should have trusted all the recs my friends gave me and read something like how to live safely in a science fictional universe.
