Ship's Log: 10391 leagues from last reckoning, returned to home port
Journey's Total: 45072 leagues
We have returned home at last, and now that I have the freedom to collect my thoughts, I shall conclude our harrowing journey.
Our shell-road led us through large caverns and tight passageways. Without it to guide us, we definitely would have gotten horribly lost. Especially since our readers kept the engine going full speed. It was difficult to even follow the road without missing turns at the speed we were going. The Captain was very concerned about it, but have you ever tried to tell readers to "slow down"? Try it sometime and let me know how it goes.
Anyway, it did eventually lead somewhere. And not just any somewhere!

A mermaid city!
Naturally, our submarine was quickly surrounded by armed guards, and naturally we immediately surrendered. Thankfully, we had a scholar on board who had read every mermaid fantasy book ever printed and who was able to interpret their sign language. When they learned of our expedition's goal, they sought out their own scholar who had read every pirate fantasy book ever printed, in spite of our insistence that pirates are real.
Much to our surprise, some guards brought forward a large treasure chest of the kind known to be used by pirates (who are definitely real, not fantasy). And it had Captain Bluebeard's insignia on it! Upon seeing our excitement, they opened it for us. Inside there were no jewels or gold coins, but only an old scroll which read,
"There are good ships, and wood ships,
And ships that sail the sea,
But the best ships,
Are Friendships,
So here's to you and me"
In the end, perhaps the real treasure was the mateys we made along the way.
