I have to admit, as much I enjoy the story, it always takes me longer than my usual reading pace to get through it. It's happened every time I picked this up so it's probably just a case of me not quite fully clicking with the writing style (maybe? possibly?).It probably doesn't help that every time I read this, I want to watch the movie

Apparently such an invention is - dare I say it - high improbable."
That's the beauty of it :D
Starting this today with the ultimate hitchhiker version, I’ve been really excited to finally read it!
@Saar and @Claudia awesome! I started it this weekend and have been having fun with it so far@Gaea I'm feeling the same. Really enjoying it but I'm definitely reading it a lot slower than usual
Hey peeps, since you're continuing the series, I've made a separate folder for the threads (Adams - Hitchhiker's). This thread is being moved to that folder also. :)

I'm trying to take it slow. Just finished Ch 11 [spoilers removed]"
It definitely is highly quotable! Already got quite a few marked down :)
I just got up to ch 11 as well and I had to chuckle a bit at the last line about (view spoiler). Apart from just being funny, I also dare say it is actually true (source: am an (astro)physicist).
I'm also pleasantly surprised by the fact that (at least up until now) I'm not really irritated by anything that's not totally true physics-wise. I didn't expect to be because I never had that problem with the movie, but books sometimes have the tendency to write down absolute bullshit and treat it like absolute truth. Hoping it stays that way, I'm optimistic :)
I finally finished it! I'd forgotten how much the ending nearly kills me lol. Marvin is the absolute best and now the urge to rewatch the movie is strong.
Just finished this as well. This was so fun! Whole read is hilarious, such dry wit. Lol if the movie does it justice at all, I really need to see it.
This definitely made me want to rewatch the movie... I love Sam Rockwell... he plays the President...
Timelord Iain wrote: "This definitely made me want to rewatch the movie... I love Sam Rockwell... he plays the President..."I went and watched a trailer.. seemed pretty silly and fun. I'll have to see about renting it or something here soon! The cast seems pretty awesome overall from what I saw.
The movie is different from the book but similar at the same time. I feel like they did a pretty good job in transferring the narration style to the screen. And yes, the cast is pretty cool :)I think I've seen it at least five times, whoops.
Yups, Stephen Fry is the voice of the Guide in the movie (basically the movie narrator). And also played a part in the radio series, apparently.
I didn't know that, that's cool!Adams also did some work on the movie and the screenplay, although sadly he passed away before production began.
It's been so long since I saw the movie I had to go look the cast up on IMDB. Wow. Might need to add this to my watch list too.
Did I just read that Stephen Fry narrates in the movie? Definitely need to watch this after finishing the series then :0I'm taking way too long for this, up to chapter 15 now, but I'm having an absolute blast. Douglas Adams has such wit, his writing style reminds me of Walter Moers, one of my absolute favourite authors, and I have not been able to find anyone as close to witty as Moers. People have been recommending Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams as English versions of Moers basically, and though I do enjoy Pratchett, his work is still quite different.
Chapter 11They're safe again. This writing style isn't my favorite, it's something I have to struggle a while. Sometimes it's fun. I don't remember how Ford knew Beeblebrox.
Chapter 15
Okay, now we know who they're really travelling with! Somehow so funny that the story behind that planet started with rich people who was never happy & wanted always something more

Oh yes, I love Martin xD
I've finally, finally...started yesterday and I'm 2 chapters in. I'm reading the Dutch translation, so the names are a bit different, but it's okay. (view spoiler)
