Winterfae *spiro, spero* (winterfae) | 20 comments I am seeking books wherein a character or characters are missing part or all of their soul, and it renders them missing something, such as typical range of emotions. Examples (that I've already read) include Half a Soul, Gate to Kandrith, and Soul of Kandrith. Romance preferred.

Thank you very much to anyone who deigns to help me!

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 56 comments Gail Carriger's Soulless. Not exactly the kind of soulless you mention, but still.

Winterfae *spiro, spero* (winterfae) | 20 comments Oh yes, I have read that too! I just didn't mention it because it didn't seem to have any bearing on how the character, Alexia, felt things, just giving her preternatural powers.

Thank you though, Johanne!

Aerulan | 1317 comments The Kencyrath series by P.C. Hodgell that starts with God Stalk has this as a theme throughout -though it comes into play more in later books. The main character's people have a very rigid concept of honor that completely defines them, but they can give their soul to another (or have it stolen) and then behave in ways honor would otherwise prevent.
Those without souls basically become sociopaths without any limits on their behavior.
It's fantasy though, not romance.

Winterfae *spiro, spero* (winterfae) | 20 comments Thank you, Aerulan. That sounds promising!

I would also be happy to know if there are any good books with emotionless characters, with or without souls.

Michael Watson | 185 comments The concept is dealt with in Harry Turtledove’s The Case of the Toxic Spell-Dump. The soulless can either be world-class psychopaths or world-class artists and thinkers, as described by one character, though we don’t meet any in the text itself.

Winterfae *spiro, spero* (winterfae) | 20 comments Ah yes, The Picture of Dorian Grey. Thank you, Paige, I have read that one as well. Good one!

And thank you very much for the suggestion, Michael. Greatly appreciate all y'all's help.
