BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK > Junia is a delightful sidekick (pun intended). What role(s) do you think she played in the story?

A lot of answers to this I think. For starters, the author was able to add humor to an otherwise troubled setting with some of Junia's spirited actions.

Linda | 8 comments I am sorry that I missed the book club. I truly enjoyed this story. Love when I learn about things such as a person can be blue-skinned by their genes. Also how hard they fought to have books,, the government did not provide. I knew about the extreme poverty and again taken back by the men that would not take help even it it fed their children. I was happy to read how a black person was able to get out of her situation. She was such a positive person.
As always religion does not make you a giving and helping person, so far from the words of Jesus that they claim they follow. The protagonist was what a real "religious person" should be like.
The author's book was excellent and made her points without being "preachy". Would recommend that book.

Our scholar pointed out that one of the author's favorite childhood books was "Charlotte's Web." Richardson's interest in human and animal connection plays out in "Book Woman." Junia is Bluette's companion, saves her life, protects her from danger, even plays Cupid once she approves the fella.
