Doughgirl5562 | 960 comments I own very few entire series, and the Alphabet Mysteries by Sue Grafton is one of the few. Yes, I own physical copies of all 25 books in the series. For some reason, I always felt a connection with the main character - Private Detective Kinsey Millhone. We even share a birthday. Sue Grafton passed away in 2017, with Y is for Yesterday being the last book that will ever be published in the series. I couldn't bring myself to read it at the time, but this year decided to start reading it on Kinsey's and my shared birthday.

Y is for Yesterday wasn't my favorite book in the series, but it was pretty good. I think the problem was that not that many characters in the story were likable - and there wasn't enough scenes with Henry! But it finally "caught" me about half way through and I stayed up until way past midnight to finish it. And I loved the ending!

With no Z book, I'm going to have to make up my own ending for the series. And I think I have. But as it turns out, there is one ore Kinsey book that I haven't read - Kinsey and Me - a book of short stories! Of course I have to read that next :-) When I'm done with that, I'll share my theory on how Kinsey's story "ends".

Glad you liked it. I just reviewed it and wasn't as pleased as you were. But I did enjoy all my years with Kinsey. She stands out as one of the most delightful characters in a series. (Love Henry too!). I just got X from the library, so you have one more. I presume it's legit. From what I've read, Grafton definitely did NOT write a Z, but, at the time of her death, I thought she still hadn't published a W or Y, so not sure what's going on.

Wish I'd have thought of this for short stories!
