New page will be up in a few hours. Don't be surprised if it is entirely devoted to Bob Dylan.

The very first was as early as 1913 I think, Lon Chaney copied the make up for his 1935 film so I imagine that Steinbeck was pretty well steeped in werewolf lore from quite a young age - I wonder if he went trick or treating dressed up like Chaney?

I agree, very grim, I don't think I could bear to re-read it.

A new voice! Welcome!

And thanks for your view on McGregor. One can never be sure, but I think I will also enjoy all parts.

If you would like to expand on that (authors/books I would be interested.

I was thinking specifically of Hammett and Chandler, though the latter came along after the 1930 date for the werewolf novel given in the article. I imagine that Steinbeck wouldn't have dreamed that H. P. Lovecraft would someday be published alongside him as part of the Library of America.

Thanks to those commenting on Lean Fall Stand. McGregor is one of the authors I buy in print rather than read on a Kindle, which means that I have to wait for the cheaper paperback!
So I will definitely read at some point.
