I have a few books in mind for a readalong someday but I'm also curious what you might want to read.

I really want to read something by Sarah Waters, long on my list to read. I have The Little Stranger but others have said Tipping the Velvet or Fingersmith are better reads.

I have Possession by A.S. Byatt.

What else? What is burning a hole in your shelf that might benefit from a group read?

Elizabeth☮ | 268 comments I have wanted to read Papillon by Henri Charrière Papillon for a while.

I've read Possession, but it's been a minute.

I also would like to dip into Sarah Waters - I've never read her.

I would like to read something by James Baldwin or even a collection of essays by another writer.

Nadine in California (nadinekc) | 150 comments I'm still on the market for Barkskins - a bunch of people on the of the GR groups were interested in a buddy read, but that seems to have fizzled out. I think the page length is just too daunting ;) I read Possession so long ago that I'd like to revisit it.

Oh! I was hoping to jump in if it happened. barkskins is a definite possibility too.

Vinny (billypar) | 48 comments These options are looking good - I haven't read any of them.

I'll also add two works from Ugandan author Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi as options. The one I have on my shelf Kintu (2014) sounds like one of those blends of personal and national narratives from different time periods that I think works well for readalongs. There is also one from last year - A Girl is a Body of Water - I don't love the title, but I'm a sucker for an interesting coming of age story.

I also have Kintu unread on my shelf!

Okay I'm going to set a schedule. We will aim to start reading September 1, so we will need to book selected by August 15, which means I need all nominations by August 1.

Each person can nominate ONE book, so those of you who have mentioned multiple books should narrow it down!

Nadine in California (nadinekc) | 150 comments I don't remember if I nominated only one book, so my official nomination is Barkskins Thanks!

Jeff Koeppen (jeff_koeppen) | 181 comments I would love to read either Barkskins or Papillon. So I'll second both nominations.

Vinny (billypar) | 48 comments Of the two I suggested, I'm going with the one we both have on our shelves: Kintu by Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi.
