30.1 - Teri-K's Task: Celebrate the Great Outdoors.

This summer, with COVID greatly reduced in my state, quarantine restrictions loosening, and having been immunized, I'm looking forward to going camping often, and hiking trails I haven't seen in over a year. What a relief after 14 months of just walking around the neighborhood every day! Join me in enjoying nature again with a salute to the great outdoors.

Read 2 books using 2 different options.
Required: State the options you are using.

Required: The books must total at least 550 pages.

Option 1:
Read a book from this list of 50 of the Best Nonfiction Nature Books.

Option 2:
Are you a dendrophile, (lover of trees and forests), or a thalassophile, (lover of oceans)?
Read a book whose author's first and last initials are found in DENDROPHILE or THALASSOPHILE. If your book has more than one author, each author's first and last initials must be found in the word you choose. Letters may only be used as often as they appear in the target word.
Required: State which word you are using.

Option 3:
All the letters for either the word CAMP or HIKE must be found in the title, including subtitles.
Required: State which word you are using.

Option 4:
Read a book with at least one word in the title that is also in the name of a U.S. National Park. The words must match exactly. You cannot use "of" or "the".
(Wrangell - St. Elias is treated as three words.)

Required: State which National Park you are using.

For example, Death in St. Petersburg matches Wrangell - St. Elias, Saint Maybe does NOT match.
Rebel of the Sands matches White Sands, House of Sand and Fog does NOT match.

Hi,
For option 3 I would like to read a book called: Dochter van het derde rijk.
However, it is only in English on Goodreads. Please advice (I never let an edition enter in goodreads so I need some advide)
The original book is: The Curator's Daughter and then it doesn't fit anymore

OK, The English title doesn't matter if you don't read the English version of the book. So the book you want to read has HIKE in the title you'll read and works for option 3. (See Rules of the Challenge, Section 2, #2-b if you want to double check.)

But you need the foreign edition entered in the database so you can link to it, right? You have two choices.

1. Go to the book page in English, and under the cover pictures you see a link "Add a New Edition". Click this and enter the information you have about the book. Don't worry if you don't know everything it asks, just the sections with red stars and the total page number are absolutely necessary for SRC. It's pretty easy and you can fix mistakes if you make them - I sometimes do. Be sure to "Create Book" at the bottom of the page so it saves! I suggest you give this a try, as it's a good new skill to have. :)

2. If you don't want to try that, go to the SRC "General Help" thread (scroll down past the Spring SRC threads and you'll find it). Under "anyone with librarian status" you need to post the information you have about the book you're reading and someone will add it to the GR database for you.

Either way you should be good to go!

Can I use a book by Louisa May Alcott for Option 2? L and A are in THALASSOPHILE.

I very specifially said "first and last initials" so you don't have to include middle names. So, yes, her name will work. Just be sure to check the AR level if needed.

She's a favorite author of mine, so enjoy your book. :)
