K.L. Mitchell | 5 comments OK, so here's a thing I've wondered about: is it just me, or are there an awful lot of Sherlock Holmes/Cthulhu Mythos/general Lovecraftian crossovers? I mean, you've got your "Shadows over Baker Street", there's "Sherlock Holmes & the Cult of Cthulhu", "The Cthulhu Casebooks", couple of the computer games IIRC, and I'm sure I'm missing some. It seems weird but somehow the combination kinda works, at least it does for me. I think it might be that they both kind of have similar atmospheres: the (almost) lone fighter standing alone in the dark against evil, turn-of-the-century gloom. What do you folks think?

Parmacendar I'm interested in the idea of Holmes, the ultimate Finder-Outer-of-Truth, being confronted with Truths That Man Was Not Meant to Know/That Can't Be Comprehended/That Will Make You Go Crazy. None of the Holmes-Cthulhu crossovers I've read have really satisfied this desire for me, though -- usually they just treat the supernatural stuff as another branch of science which Holmes of course is or quickly becomes an expert in with no threat to his sanity whatsoever.

Have you looked into the Warlock Holmes books? In those, he's a wizard and -- without giving too much away -- he pretty much starts with his sanity already heavily compromised. It's more black magic than cosmic horror, but a pretty interesting read nonetheless.

Parmacendar No, I haven't -- it sounds like those are more of a parody where Holmes is an idiot, which isn't exactly what I'm looking for.
