I think that was the author's purpose for making the location so remote. As readers, we're supposed to think that where she lived was creepy to up the suspense in the story. She definitely should have stayed somewhere more secure, but that wasn't what the author was going for.
Really Olivia should have taken more care but this is par for the course for a lot of romantic suspense. If the heroine took care there wouldn't be the drama in the story.
Strangely enough, I didn't find her location to be at all creepy. It seemed like more a safe haven for Olivia - her comfort zone. Also, none of the victims were taken from their homes so I never thought the killer would go there.
I agree with you Lauren. The author described her location as remote, but it never took too long for people to get to her or for Olivia to get to work, shopping, etc.

Good catch Lauren. I stopped and re-read the passage with the mirror, but I didn't hit on brother. I thought it was her grandmother connecting with her. Mirrors show up so often in paranormal books.
I thought the location was remote, her closest neighbors were over a mile away, and I was concerned that the location could be a problem if the killer came after her. I don't think that Olivia felt unsafe there. But, I would sure be creeped out by the visions in her mirrors.

I kept waiting for the killer to be inside her house, the way the killer snuck inside Sam's house in the first book. I think it's a great point, Lynn, that it was to up the suspense. It certainly did that for me.

Such a great find! I never connected those dots at all, even looking back. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. One of the reasons I love the discussions is that I learn so much digging into the book. :)

Hannah, Me too. I often go back and re-read scenes or chapters to see what others see. I miss a lot that the other ladies catch. We have some good detectives in this group.
