If you have any tips on how to improve in English vocabulary and grammar and how to become fluent in it, feel free to share here. Some of our members are quite young and in the learning phase and would appreciate your help.

Ana Paes So last year during quarentine I started to read more and some really underrated books I like only had an English edition so I begin my journey to learn the language.

My tips:
1) Find something you really like, it'll be easier for you to study if it's not a burden (for example, I really love underrated books but I only could read them if I knew the language. If you really like shows or movies, you should start to watch them in english with english subs)

2) Start reading middle grade/childs books. When you were a kid and started learn your mother language you didn't started with difficult books or trying to understand a lecture or whatever, you started with kids books and kids shows. It's the same thing now, you are a baby-english-learner, start with the easy things.

3) You really have to drown in the language. Change your smartphone language to english, if you like start a diary but only write in english, when you go watch something try to change to english, etc.

4) Do not neglect the speaking part. It's easy to forget the speaking practice when you don't have anyone to speak to, so make some friends or if you're too shy you can always read things out loud and when you don't know how to pronounce certain words just google it.

5) Comics and Webcomics are very good ways to learn more. They have pictures and little text, the vocabulary is easy and they are short.

6) Copy the way others write. How did they wrote that sentence? How did they answered to that question? Did they used formal or informal writing? Before that preposition did they used this word? Things like that, you'll have to learn with the way people talk in the internet.

I think that's it, if I remember more tips I'll come back and add more.

P. S.: I know it's hard to let go of the shyness or the insecurity. For a very long time I was too afraid of being judged because I made a mistake, but you know what? Everybody make mistakes, if you pay attention you'll see how people with first language being english make mistakes. I doubt you never made a mistake in your mother language, so just try to overcome that fear it's only holding you back from the wonderful things that is knowing more than 1 language brings to you.
(I probably made some mistakes here too)
