In my hardcover edition chapter 22 ends on page 112 with the words "Truth be told."

What do you think so far?
Liked/dislikes?

Dorian (doorfreeze) | 27 comments I’ll be joining also! First book club read and I’m kinda excited haha. Book is ready for me to pick up at the library, I’ll probably read it in a week or two 😁

BookswithAdi | 1 comments I really liked the fast paced beginning and so far I enjoy all the female characters and the two povs we follow. Cannot wait what is coming next.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I feel like Carly and Scarlett are related. But I am liking it so far. I am really enjoying Scarlett's character. She is such a badass; just way too cocky though!

message 6: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (valerieknauer) | 2 comments I love that this is taking place in my home state.

message 7: by Nadja (new)

Nadja | 22 comments i really like it so far. I am especially curious about Jasper. He seems pretty strange... I am also not really sure, what to think about Allison. Is she as nice, as she seems or maybe a bit manipulativ. I am probably completely off with this^^

message 8: by Shinny (new)

Shinny Star (shinnystar001) | 1 comments I like it so far, very fast paced. But OMG Scarlett! She is a very interesting character. She has everything very well planned.

message 9: by Monica (new)

Monica I like it so far, very fast paced. Scarlett is a very interesting character. I am enjoying the two povs we are following. I am kinda suspicious of Jasper though, something is definitely off about him. I think Allison might be a little bit manipulative. She cant be as nice as she seems.

Justin Chen | 61 comments Really enjoying the fast pace!

I must have read too many murder mysteries in the past, because I immediately notice a flaw in Scarlett's method killing Tyler:

"I didn’t even have to plant the poison. I found it during one of my preparatory stakeouts of the garage, probably left over from some rodent infestation years prior. I took what I needed to doctor Tyler’s drink and put the box right back where I found it. Perfect for my purposes: it supports the story that poor Tyler, wracked with guilt, decided to put himself out of his misery with the nearest thing at hand."

BUT, she didn't make sure to plant Tyler's fingerprints on the box—how could it be a self-instigated suicide if the victim's fingerprints are not at the source of the poison?

Really random observation, I know, LOL! But this did make her less of a 'perfect killer' in my head.

Antonia (bookisshtoni) | 9 comments I‘m enjoying it so far - love the Campus setting!

message 12: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (zieglerae) | 5 comments I love the fast pace of the book and the back and forth between perspectives. I cannot wait for the 2 protagonists to cross paths. I also don’t really like or agree with Scarlett a lot of the time. I don’t think it’s right for her to be so awful towards people and I hope we learn why she started to be that way later in the book.

message 13: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 14 comments I feel like I like the side characters more than the pov characters. I want to know more about Mina and Drew. I feel like Scarlett is going to make a mistake with her next murder

I felt like something about Allison was off from the beginning too. I don't feel like she's trustworthy.

That's really interesting! A little detail missing there!

message 16: by Baubie (new)

Baubie | 8 comments It’s definitely an interesting read! Eager to see where things go for each of our main characters. Not much of a Scarlett fan at the moment… but so far so good 😊

message 17: by Dorian (new)

Dorian (doorfreeze) | 27 comments Enjoying the pace of this book also! Can’t help but have a feeling that Carly is going to get crushed by someone or something, one way or another. Feel a connection to her, and rooting for her.

Interesting detail that you picked up on, Justin!

Also glad to see that I’m not the only man doing this group read! 😉😂

message 18: by Dream (new)

Dream Darwich | 1 comments Really enjoying it so far.
I find the characters very interesting but i kinda have a bad feeling about Jasper. Also Bash too. I feel like he's gonna do a bad thing to Allison and then we will see Carly getting revenged for her.
So far so good!

message 19: by Larissa (new)

Larissa (larissasbookinspirations) | 3 comments I also am really enjoying this book! I just started it today and am flying through it! Super captivating so far!

message 20: by Dorian (new)

Dorian (doorfreeze) | 27 comments Ahhhhhh..... does anyone else find themselves laughing at some of the stuff Scarlett says? 🤣🤣

message 21: by Aiva (new)

Aiva Orina (aivaorina) | 8 comments I am really enjoying it so far. I love Carly, and Allison better not hurt her!

I was wondering how Scarletts and Carlie's paths would cross, but starting to think it will probably be because of Carlie's dad. Probably obvious.

message 22: by Stavroula (new)

Stavroula | 69 comments I am really liking it so far. I'm curious to see how the two heroines are related. I enjoy both stories even though I prefer Scarlett as a character. I always appreciate a fast paced book with short chapters.

message 23: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 37 comments Liking it so far, it's definitely giving Dexter vibes. Curious to see how Carly and Scarlett's stories eventually connect.

message 24: by Daria (new)

Daria Chernysheva | 12 comments didn't notice getting through a whole third of the book, a real page-turner. I hope it doesn't drop the ball later on

message 25: by Rye (new)

Rye (ryenrosario) | 28 comments I am really enjoying this so far. I like how straightforward it is being. Interested to see how the 2 POVs come together. Also wondering if Allison did just have a drunken night or if something else happened to her.

message 26: by Sally (new)

Sally (sallysimply) | 21 comments I'm really enjoying this! The pacing is great, and this is the kind of story I was hoping for with Promising Young Woman (I was very disappointed when it wasn't that).

I'm eager to find out how Scarlett and Carly are connected and if they're related to each other or their storylines will simply intersect. I keep coming back to them maybe being the same person. I can't remember how each storyline was set up in terms of timing so I don't know if there are things that weren't stated or that I just wasn't paying attention to. For instance, somebody is dead at the start of Carly's freshman year, but do they say it's the same person who is dead for Scarlett's storyline? Or do we just assume that as the reader? Can't wait to find out!

message 27: by Summer (new)

Summer (speaking_bookish) (speaking_bookish) | 30 comments This first section has blown by. I’m completely invested and totally cheerleading for Scarlett to take out the trash. Could Kinnear and Stright get any more disgusting?

I’m also curious what’s up with Mina and if she actually see’s right through Scarlett and her attempts at getting closer to her just a tactic.. or if it’s something else.

I also feel like there has to be more to Carly’s story besides what we’ve learned about her dad so far. Her serious anxiety and awkwardness.. and her extreme fear right away when she sees a man in the dark that they’re going to do something to her.. yea. Something more has happened to her.

This is probably my favorite of all the books we’ve read together so far- let’s see if that holds up ✌🏻

message 28: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Kool | 81 comments I cannot put this one down. Woah. I am invested.

Scarlett is definitely a sociopath and I’m loving it. That line about how she took people to her home in Chicago, “I could have killed them all.” Too great. I can’t.

I want to know though how Carly and Scarlett’s stories are going to come together. So far, that’s my one thing with it.

Part of me wonders if Allison is going to get raped by Bash and then Carly is going to kill him so we have 2 murderers. I don’t know, but can’t wait to keep reading.

If it was in his garage he probably touched it when he put it there?

I also get the feeling that they are the same person...

message 31: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (Smitten For Fiction) (smittenforfiction) I am listening to the audiobook and it's freaking fantastic. Carly has tons of inner potential and a clear idea of justice, yet there is a lot of anger there. Where will that bring her?

Scary Scarlet. So strong. What happened to her to make her this way? I get the feeling that Carly and Scarlet is the same person. Even some of the same letter sounds in their name. I don't know...There's definitely a connection. Bash is BAD NEWS.

message 32: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 33 comments I’m liking it so far, but not loving it. The first chapter was exciting, but the pace seems to have slowed down since then. It’s obviously building to something but I wish there had been more murdering by this point.. not sure what that says about me lol. Also, (this is obviously just speculation since I haven’t read beyond this point), but I think Carly is S(Carl)lett in the past. I’ll be really surprised if that doesn’t end up being a twist that’s revealed later.

message 33: by Charlene (new)

Charlene (bookishlychar) | 34 comments I'm liking it so far. I love a book where things are happening, but you are not sure what those things are. I think the author is using the last names of teachers/profs, where as Carly is using Adam as her prof name. Who do you think Adam is? One of the people Scarlet gets along with or not? Is something going to happen to Carly and that is how her and Scarlet will meet?

I'm a little sketchy on the timeline. Are Scarlet and Carly's chapters happening at the same time? Because I notice Carly's seems to go faster. I see someone said what if Carly is Scarlet, that would be interesting, with her killing ways coming from her dad?

The characters are interesting though and I am looking forward to learning more! Yes I am a bit late, the book just came in from the library!

message 34: by Venessa (new)

Venessa (pebblecafe) | 17 comments I’m intrigued! Really liking it so far. I’m anxious to see how this is going to play out and how/when Carly and Scarlett’s paths cross.

message 35: by Kim (new)

Kim Kantor (kimkantor) | 37 comments I am really liking it as well. It definitely gives dexter vibes with the k8nd of snarky internal comments by both Scarlett and Carly. I’ve been trying to figure the timelines also - could it be the same person and Bash or some equally disgusting fellow is going to be the first victim? And as an aside, I’ve just read THREE books with the name Bash in them. What is that all about? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) | 43 comments I'm definitely loving the way Scarlett is very straightforward about her killing. I can see myself really loving it. I can't wait for Carly to join in on the fun
