Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is probably Mildred D. Taylor most famous work, winning many accolades including the 1977 Newbery award.

Another great book in the Logan series. This book is the one to start it all. You feel like you know the family after reading the book. The characters are well developed and the plot moves at a nice pace. A lot of painful things happen in this book but the love of the family is what comes through the most.

I heard Mildred D. Taylors voice more clearly reading this again as an adult. I understand her message better, not that children won't learn from and love this story, I know I did as a child. I can see why this is curriculum for elementary education all over the country.
