She turned the gas cap and closes the car lid. “It should be working now.” She said and got into the car and turned it on, it made a sputtering noise at first then the engine started to rumble and it was brought to life. “YES!”
Yes, we finally are, Cyra thought to herself and grinned. “We better finish getting everything ready so we can leave at first light tomorrow.”
Cyra stayed outside and kept on working on the car. She still had to fix the seatbelts in the back and get the breaks to work normally.
Luke noticed that the sun was beginning to set and so he grabbed a bag of food and went to him room, ate it and hopped into bed.
Once the first star came out Cyra got out of the car and headed inside, glancing around her for zombies. She headed inside and straight to her room, already planning herself for the day tomorrow. As soon as her head hit the pillow she fell into the same old nightmares of sleep.
Luke slept lightly, he was excited and nervous for what the coming day would bring, but it caused him to toss and turn in a fitfull rest.
Just minutes before the first rays of sun Cyra woke with a cry out her nightmarish sleep, covered in sweat.
Luke heard her and rushed towards her room. He knocked on the door carefully. "Cyra?" He called out softly.
“I-I’m fine.” She said and quickly slipped on her jacket to cover up the poison slowly spreading up and down her arm.
“Just another nightmare.” She said and tried to clomp out of bed, but her legs wouldn’t hold her.
"Then say something." He said. He saw her stumble and he walked quickly into the room. He caught her arms carefully.
“I-“ she thinks about ways to get out of this but realizes that she should just tell him. “Ever since my brothers left me, I’d have these nightmares. They used to be random but now it’s just the same repeating one over and over again.”
"I know how you feel." He said sitting on her bed. "Nightmares are haunts of our past." He said quietly.
“Or warnings from our future.” She mutters and sits down on her bed and leans back. “Life sucks.” She says all of a sudden.
“But what does someone do if they have no reason to keep op going forward, or there legs become to weak from everything going downhill? What do you do when someone tells you to give up when you have absolutely every reason too? What do you do then? Do you decide to quite? Give up just because you want to, or say no, and keep on going with no other reason then because you know you should.”
"It's all about trust Cyra. You have to trust in something, no matter how little it is. You never quit, it is never okay to quit. If you quit in times like this, you die, so you have to learn to trust." He told her, looking steadily into her eyes.
“Trust, what if you don’t even know what trust is anymore? What if you’ve been so long without trust that you’ve forgotten what it even looks like? I- I know I can’t quite, I know that I won’t. But what if I did? What would happen, if one day I just decided to quite.” She feels his gaze on her and looks back into his eyes. She’s never noticed them before, but there beautiful. Just like a princesses.
"Do you trust me then? Because I trust you. I won't let you give up on me, okay?" He told her softly.
She wrapped her arms around him, “Neither wil I, princess, neither will I.” She whispered with her head on his shoulder and her arms wrapped around him.
He held her close for a moment, relaxing into the embrace. "I think that we should get some sleep before tomorrow." He said, standing.
Cyra stood with him. “You can, I’m gonna go to the roof.” She walked to the doorway and paused. “Thank you, Luke.” She starts to head to the roof, hoping that the fresh air will help her clear her head.
Cyra opened the door to the roof and walked outside, excepting at least a little bit of peace and quiet but realized that that wasn’t going to happen. She stared in horror at the group of zombies coming towards the hotel, about a quarter mile away.
Luke went back to his room, his mind running over and over the promises that he had made to her. He laid in bed but he could not fall asleep.
Cyra quickly ran down the stairs and into Luke’s room. “Zombies, quarter mike away, at least 8 of them.” She says in between gasps. “I’ll hold them off. You get violet and the rest of the supplies and meet me in the car.”
He jolted up. "Eight." He cursed angrily and grabbed his pistol. "Alright then." He rushed past her out of room and down the stairs.
Cyra quickly grabbed her axe shot gun off her back and headed downstairs and outside. The zombies where now only just a couple yards from crossing the street to the hotel. She quickly started to fire but the bullets weren’t doing much harm. She glanced down the street and saw 10 more zombies coming towards the hotel. She cursed silently and continued to fire fire at the zombies.
Luke ran over to Violet. "Cyra's plan is not working." He told her. "She wanted us to meet her at the car but I don't see her. Can you hold your ground?" He asked breathlessly.
The ones across from them where getting to close to shoot so Cyra ran up to them and began to hack away at them with her axe. “I’ll get these ones.” She grunted. “You handle the other ones.”
Luke shot at the incoming zombies and dispatched some of them them quickly. "Let's go." He called out quickly.
Cyra cut the last ones head off and ran to car. She glanced around and only spotted violet. “Where’s Luke?” She yelled frantically looking around.
Luke shot two more zombie and turned and ran towards the car. A zombie crowded his path and he realized he was out of ammunition.
“Come on, get in the car! I’ll find him!” She yelled and ran back into the hotel, searching for Luke.
Cyra ran out of the hotel when she couldn’t find him spotted violet and Luke heading to the car. She ran to it fast and got in the drivers seat and turned it on, getting ready to hit the gas pedal as soon as they got in the car.
Luke nodded in thanks to Violet. He jumped into the car and felt the heave of the car as it sped forward.
"I think we left at just the right time." He said, his was trying to catch his breath, the memories were flooding his mind again.
“Ya, I think we did.” She continued to speed up the car until the hotel was far behind them. “Are either of you hurt?”
