when you're doing l's, d's, b's, and any other letters that have loops, try and keep the two walls of the loops separate. like with your jude and cardan, next time, separate the loop of the 'd' in 'jude', the back loop of the 'a' in 'cardan', the loop of the 'd' in 'cardan', and so on

okay so basically this is what i meant(i did it in pencil because i don't have a marker on my atm plus i wanted to show you what the plain stroke would look like)

i just did an artificial downstroke with the pencil to give you a better idea of what it would look like if i had used a marker and the calligraphy technique, but i hope you get what i was trying to say lol - try and make your original script more looped so that when you write it in a calligraphy style, you'll get something closer to the image you were trying to replicate :D
**also sorry for the bad image quality lol i just randomly wrote it on the back of my compsci notes so ;-;

it's easiest to show with the letters 'l', 'b', and 'd'
when you first start writing the cursive versions of those letters, you learn that you go all the way up and then down, right? well, for calligraphy, you're going to want to create loops instead, so that you can accentuate the downstroke
it's really easy and you'll get used to it no time lol
at this point, even when i'm writing regular cursive/not for calligraphy, i write my b's, d's and l's with loops instead of straight lines without even thinking about it lol

yup, exactly !! it's so that you can make the downstroke more clear instead of blending it in with the upstroke, because the whole point of this is to keep your upstrokes thin and clear :D
calligraphy is so hard. i have several pens for it, but only my parents are like super into it. i wish you luck!
