Euthanasia: Should it be Allowed?

Recently, I read a book Me Before You which revolves around life and death, and basically sends a message that any person, who's unable to take care of themselves or is otherwise crippled, or suffering, can end their life voluntarily, the law permits assisted suicide.
This book was eventually turned into a movie and there were many conflicting views on this topic, whether this book sends the right message (that disabled person must end their life because their isn't much to it).

Many countries allow it, such as Netherlands, Belgium, Canada etc, under different provisions and in some countries it's illegal, such as UK.

So what do you think? Is it right to allow someone to take their Life in their hands?

It can be allowed if the person wants to end his life but shouldn't be allowed for trivial reasons.

It can be allowed if and only if the said person has zero chances of survival.

I live in Canada and it is legal. There is a procedure that has to be followed where you are deemed of sound mind and ask for help in dying on multiple occasions over time to your doctor. It is referred to as assisted dying not suicide. I see it as a good thing for being compassionate to those suffering. It needs to be regulated for sure.

I also did not take the view that Me Before You was saying disabled people's lives are not worth living. In the book the character is a quadriplegic who is financially well off and can afford the best care and treatment options to try for improvement. However he keeps deteriorating and having increased pain that cannot be managed.

As someone who is disabled and can't even eat solid food, I don't think it should be allowed unless there isn't a chance of the person surviving. I understand why it exists but suicide in any form whether it be assisted dying or not really impacts other people negatively. People feel such much guilt and sadness when anyone chooses to die. It's really hard for other people to deal with. I was suicidal with a feeding tube shoved down my throat last year but I couldn't go through with my thoughts because of how it would impact my parents.

@Shawna: Correct, it is always most hurtful for the closed ones to see their loved ones go away. The pain, the feelings cannot be explained nor put into words.
For example: my cousin met with an accident and deemed brain dead. There was absolutely no point in stretching his life and so with a heavy heart ended his life...

Tough world out there...

I think it should be allowed in extreme cases where person is suffering physical pain due to disease, physical disability, extreme old age symptoms. Everyday life can become hell for people in such cases.
