Joshua K. Smith marks his publishing debut with the release of ‘Robotic Persons’ An examination of robotic futurism and how AI-driven robots impact human value and dignity
MORTON, Miss. – Is there room in Christian theology to grant personhood to robots? Joshua K. Smith, in his debut publication “Robotic Persons” (published by WestBow Press), combines his experience in the military, ministry, and academic world to bring together an evangelical work to help Christians think through the murky issues that face humanity in the wake of forthcoming AI-driven robots.
Social robots are being made and researched to help society in three areas: to make work more efficient and faster, replace soldiers in war, and replace sexual partners and companions. This book aims to help readers consider the anthropological consequences facing humanity as robots become more integrated into their lives. It provides a Christian response to each of these issues and the risks that lie ahead.
“COVID-19 has pushed robotic integration even further to the forefront of the public’s mind,” the author states. “We must begin to think about the ethical outcomes of robotics now before it is too late.”
“Robotic Persons” will appeal to those who want to better understand the future and state of artificial intelligence and robotic research from a Christian perspective.
