Theresa | 15662 comments I only own one very good watch, a Movado that was a gift from a grateful commercial tenant in a building where I was the Landlord attorney! Technically I was the big bad wolf! Don't worry, it came after the deal done, signed, and he had moved in.

But I own lots and lots of watches, none expensive. I had a thing for Swatches for a while, but the plastic bands deteriorated faster than the watch or battery and since they were part of the entire watch design, the watch is trashed once the band became too broken up. They finally changed to a different fake material that makes my wrist break out -- I think what I am actually experiencing is a rash from my own sweat and dirt getting trapped under the band. Anyway, no more Swatches for me.

I have no childhood watches, probably because I did not get a watch until I was a teenager. I do have a couple of Mickey's I bought for myself, a Harry Potter Hogwarts that was a gift, one from the Cluny Museum in Paris with the Lady and the Unicorn tapestry on the band and face, a couple of Fossil watches which may be my favorites right now. Just to name a few. Not one has a working battery right now and several need new watchbands. A couple may just be dead. I really need to go through them and decide which ones I want to keep.

Theresa | 15662 comments @RobinP - I love that you are attending via Zoom author interviews and such. That is something I pretty regularly did in person pre-pandemic but find I just don't tune in when on Zoom. Not sure why - maybe because feels too staged and removed? Don't feel the energy and love from the audience? I spend too much work time on Zoom? The live events were generally weeknights around 6 or 7 PM and they would get me out of the office an hour or two earlier which may have also been one reason I made a point of attending. Plus I really like the opportunity to hang out after and schmooze with author, interviewer, and publishing team.

I'm a good schmoozer.

Yeah, that's the case here, too. (And I've also stuffed it all in sometimes, though most of the time, I do try to stop myself to take home leftovers!)

LibraryCin | 11722 comments And watches.... I try to remember to put mine on if I'm leaving the house. Of course, I am going to work once/week, so luckily, I've been remembering it then. Not as big a deal if I'm just going out for groceries or something (walking distance - no need to keep track of the time(ing) for buses).

Karin | 9249 comments My childhood watches were all wind up. There were odd times, starting when I was in my 20s, when my watches would start gaining time very rapidly, only to go back to normal and I wound them the same all the time. I have no idea why.

My first watch was a Timex, long gone, and nothing Cinderella about it. I was 9 or 10 and doubt I would have wanted one of those by then (yes, they were around, but I don't remember if I had seen them. However, I was getting into scifi so past the princess stage).
