Unfortunately, no. It really needs to be focused on the central character of the series. In the case on Anne of Green Gables, and a few other series that extend over a generation, I would accept a story focused on one of her children to continue the series, but this is a tangential character.

Thank you. However, since I have read this entire series several times, I must disagree in your pronouncement of Marill as a tangential character. I will look for another book to fulfill this task.in fact the last book of the series written by Lucy Maude Montgomery is Rilla of Ingleside is centered on Anne's youngest daughter Rilla (a shortened version of Marilla for whom she was named).

I have to agree with Wanda. Having read several of these, Marilla may not be the character the series is named after, but she's most definitely a main character.

I am guessing that
will work for book 3, even."Yes, to both. Enjoy!

I may have misspoke in using the word "tangential" - I now have a better understanding of who Marilla was (I read Anne of Green Gables many years ago) - but I stand by the original decision. I really wanted this task to be about a main character's series being continued (e.g., Holmes, Poirot, Spenser) after their creator's death rather than stories about other characters. There are still lots of gray areas though. Hope you find a spot for the book!
Hi there. My previous post got missed. Would Jane: The Woman Who Loved Tarzan work for Option 3 Odd?It's based on Tarzan of the Apes and has both Jane and Tarzan as characters. The GR description calls it a sequel and is authorized by the original author's estate.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is a no, too, and for the same reason I said no to the book Marilla of Green Gables. The intent of the task was to read a book that continues a series that was created by an author who is now deceased. I hate saying no to someone who wants to read a book, so early on I probably accepted a couple of titles that I should not have. But the basics are these: The story needs to FEATURE the main character(s). The book needs to be about Holmes (with or without Watson), or Elizabeth and Darcy, or Spenser, or Jeeves and Wooster, etc. From here on out I'm going to stick to that because it becomes to fuzzy otherwise. Thanks for your understanding.
So, do I understand Option 3 Odd correctly when I say that, using Jane Eyre as the original story, Wide Sargasso Sea won't work (different main character) and that either of Death of a Schoolgirl or All Hallows at Eyre Hall will work since they both are continuations of the main character's story?
Paula wrote: "So, do I understand Option 3 Odd correctly when I say that, using Jane Eyre as the original story, Wide Sargasso Sea won't work (different main character) and that eith..."Yes! Wide Sargasso Sea would not work, but the other two definitely will.
Kaora wrote: "So for #3 Even would The Winter King or Stonehenge work?"Sorry, neither of these will work. The Winter King is a retelling of Arthur's story from another person's viewpoint. It's not a continuation. I don't really see anything in Stonehenge that appears to be a continuation of another author's work.
Lauren wrote: "Please confirm The Winter Garden Mystery for Historical Fiction. Many thanks!"Yes, that will work as historical fiction.
Cat wrote: "please can you confirm Historical fiction for The Golden Torc, thank you!"My apologies. It looks like I didn't respond to this. Yes, it does have historical fiction listed as an MPG, so you're good to go.
Florence wrote: "For Book 3 - odd would The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood work?"My apologies to you too. There were two messages here that I never saw before tonight. Unfortunately, this book will not work. It is a retelling and not a continuation - and it appears to be about Penelope rather than Odysseus.

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! I got my odds and evens mixed up. I thought you were asking about them as continuations (for 3 odd). I was wondering how Stonehenge could possible fit! But yes, they both absolutely work as historical fiction. I will change them in the approved books post.
I'd like to confirm these choices before I invest in them, please.

Glaciers - 174 pages
Option 2 - odd:
Your Perfect Year - 444 pages
Option 3 - odd:

Yes, all of these will work.
