Jess Myname | 42 comments Kind of a random question but is there a way to be notified when a specific book is going to be pulled from circulation and might possibly be available for purchase?

there’s a series of books that I love and used to check out every so often to re-read but when I went to check them out last month it looks like the library has retired all copies of the series.

I chose instead to start re-reading another series that I also quite enjoy. I am starting my third time through the series, while I don’t expect this one to be retired anytime soon since they are still adding books to the series I’m noticing quite a few of the copies I got on this last trip to the library are looking rather haggard and I suspect will be pulled from circulation soon. I would be interested in buying these it would be great to actually own the series I’m just wondering if there’s a way to know when these go on sale?

Unfortunately, there is no way for us to do this. Books are pulled at different times at different library branches for different reasons.
We also have a policy that our book sale is first come, first served; no one has any early access. Our policy can be found on our website (https://www.slcolibrary.org/policies/...). Any book sale item has to be publicly displayed for sale and cannot be held back for individual patrons.

Jess Myname | 42 comments Thank you for the information I know my question was a bit jumbled. I wasn’t implying any special treatment just the possibility of an email that would say something to the effect “ a book you have shown interest in will be available at the next book sale on....” I know it would be quite the logistical nightmare I just wanted to see if such a program existed. Thank you again for your help.

Jess Myname | 42 comments Linda I was quite surprised that the series I went to check out was not in the library, it didn’t seem like it been that long ago since I read it, but I do know it Has to do with how often it gets checked out. it must not be one of those that is holding the attention as time goes by I personally quite enjoyed the series and Hoping to find the book so I can read it again.

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments It would be less frustrating if we could do ILL. Did you check the city library for the series? The city and county systems have reciprical borrowing agreements so you don't need a city card, just register your county card with the city. And I sometimes find something at the city that the county removed and vice versa.

ILL is back. However, there are currently less libraries participating than previously, due to COVID. But, you can absolutely request items via ILL.

Liesl recommended checking out your favorite books at least every six months to help keep them in circulation.
