Laura Stoica - "Mai frumoasa" - the translation is "More beautiful". Laura Stoica was a romanian singer who unfortunatelly died prematurely, as did so many other great voices.

Link: Hinds - Burn

However I would choose "Cardigan" by Taylor Swift. That song is so powerful and true. Everyone can see a part of himself in that song. I can't stop listening to folklore and evermore. Love those albums. They are so intimate. A reflection of the society.
Hope you like it!

Thanks for sharing guys! Y'all certainly have good taste in music ;)

“Volver” is one of my favorite songs. It's a tango from Carlos Gardel, but I actually prefer a version from Estrella Morente, a Spanish flamenco singer. I'm half Argentinian, half Spanish, so it's the perfect mix for me.
Also, the choreography in this video reminds me of the woman in my family dancing flamenco every time we got together.
Here's the song: https://youtu.be/-e-9UZkzimY
Here some of the lyrics I found in English:
I'm afraid of the meeting
With the past that returns
To come face to face with my life
I'm afraid of the nights
That, populated with memories
Enchain my dreams
But the traveller who flees
Sooner or later stops in his track
And although the oblivion, that destroys all
Has killed my old wishes
I keep hidden a humble hope
That is all the fortune of my heart

"Nobody can tell you there's only one song worth singing,
they may try and sell you cause it hangs them up to see someone like you.
But you've gotta make your own kind of music,
sing your own special song,
make your own kind of music even if nobody else sings along."

Lyrics:
I awoke on impact
Under surveillance from the camera eye
Searching high and low
The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime
Handcuffed and blind, I didn't do it
She said she loved me
I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said she'd meet me on the other side
But I knew right then, I'd never find her
I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel
No more nightmares, I've seen them all
From the day I was born, they've haunted my every move
Every open hand's there to push and shove
No time for love it doesn't matter
She made a difference
I guess she had a way
Of making every night seem bright as day
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light
She must have lied 'cause she never said goodbye
I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel
No chance for contact
There's no raison d'etre
My only hope is one day I'll forget
The pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love it's all the same to me
I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

I used to listen to that song a lot.
Thank you guys for all these songs! How interesting is to get to know you all a little bit! :)
This time I wanna share a song taken from one of my favorite Studio Ghibli's movies, "Porco Rosso".
I love Studio Ghibli, especially "Porco Rosso" as its set in Italy during the fascist period, one of the darkest periods of our country, no wonder why the quote "I'd rather be a pig than a fascist" became so popular and it's still so used it here. I love "Porco Rosso" because despite the historical background, it's such an amazing movie full of that dreamy poetry that Studio Ghibli's production (and Japan in general) has always had and it's such a lovely tribute to Italian's resilience.
Apart from that, the song it's called "Toki Ni Wa" / "Once in a while, shall we talk about the old days?"
and it's the credit song. It gives me such mixed feelings, like a bittersweet nostalgia for things that I never lived or that they're far away. I guess that's part of Studio Ghibli's magic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpxXe...
Here's the english translation as it's japanese.
P.S; The video sub has a different translation, they're both good.
Let's talk about the old times for once.
The familiar cáfe we used to go.
A colonnade of horse chestnuts could be seen from the windows.
We made do with a cup of coffee all day.
Recklessly fumbling for unseen tomorrow,
Everybody entrusted the hope.
Blew by hot winds of the tempestuous age,
We felt the moment with all our bodies. Didn't we?
We slept on street sometimes.
We can't go anywhere. Together.
We had no money, but somehow lived on.
The poverty carried tomorrow.
So many thronged a small lodging house,
Frolicked till morning, and slept.
Every day was burning just like a storm.
We ran till we were out of breath. Didn't we?
Look at the only picture I have left.
The man with a mustache is you.
There are some friends
we don't know the whereabouts any more.
But no one can say
that everything of the day was empty.
They still must be dreaming endless dreams,
Must keep running. Somewhere.

Okay so the one I'm choosing is Noah Reid's rendition of "Simply the Best" which is my favourite version. He sings it so earnestly, so beautifully that the first time I watched him sing it to David on "Schitts Creek", my heart nearly burst into a million pieces.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLMO8...
I call you when I need you, my heart's on fire
You come to me, wild and wired
You come to me, give me everything I need
Give me a life time of promises and a world of dreams
Speak the language of love like you know what it means
And it can't be wrong
Take my heart and make it strong, babe
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I ever met
And I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart
Baby I would rather be dead
In your heart I see the start of every night and every day
In your eyes I get lost, I get washed away
Just as long I'm here in your arms I could be in no better place
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I ever met
And I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart
Baby, I would rather be dead
Each time you leave me I start losing control
You're walking away with my heart and my soul
I can feel you even when I'm alone
Oh, baby, don't let go
'Cause you're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I ever met
And I'm stuck on your heart babe
I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart
Oh I would rather be dead
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Oh you're the best

Angela Begley's rendition of "Take On Me" is stunning. She has the voice of an angel.

Talking away
I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
Today isn't my day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for your love
OK?
Take on me
Take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two
So needless to say
Of odds and ends
But I'll be stumbling away
Slowly learning life is ok
Say after me
It's no better to be
Safe than sorry
Take on me
Take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two
Things that you say
Is it a life or just to play
My worries away
You're all the things
I've got to remember
Shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway
Take on me
Take me on
I'll be gone
In a day or two
In a day or two
In a day or two

I was introduced to a lot of new music so thanks everyone
Porco Rosso has been added to my movie list, Studio Gibli is awesome.
. Thanks for posting this thread, I LOVE music. I didn't read much as a teen but I consumed hundreds of Albums, listening to the words and rocking out to inner truths and meaning.
Somewhere along the way, I discovered Hawksley Workman, a Canadian songwriter who sings of sadness, love, modern existentialism and nature. As a country kid, I related deeply to his love of the wild and of beauty. So he sings this song Battlefords, and I chose this song because it perfectly captured life from Wapwallopen Pennsylvania, where I spent the first 17 years of life.
Battlefords: By Hawksley Workman
Another summer wasted in the Battlefords
On a banana seat bike with a hockey card in the spokes
A friend of ours who's stopped his car by said that "he better get home"
He said "you're gonna get a beating. You're going to get the beating of your life"
Nutrasweeth and Fresca and popshoppe
And all the best of what a baby sitter could afford
With enough negotiation and a freckled smile
Another summer wasted in the Battlefords
Our dust coated freezie stained lips
And lawn darts in the yard
And the richest guy in town drives his new
Lincoln drunk on the old dusty streets
Balancing a snifter of gin on the edge of his knee
Rocky road, tiger tail and bubble gum and all the rest of them
That a baby sitter could afford with the right negotiation and a freckled smile
They say that wealth is revealed in the teeth
That's why we're all wearing braces
And dirty fingernails that a good akela wouldn't approve of
Not another broken arm in the heat
He fell bringing pop and chips home one day
We weren't invincible
and the sensei said, "He'll sit out the tournament"
Another summer wasted here in the battlefords
Dad shakes his head at the car that's been
sitting on blocks for years
and the weird kid who smoked two cigarettes playing bingo
Then his mom came to the rescue
She stood up and chided everyone with her finger outstretched
Saying "you're not the boss of him"
Ring pops, banana runts, popeye cigerettes
and everything that's best that baby sitter could afford
with the right negotiation and a freckled smile
They say that wealth is revealed in the teeth
That's why we're all wearing braces
and dirty fingernails
that a good akela wouldn't approve of
Not another broken arm in the heat
He fell bringing pop and chips home one day
We weren't invincible
And the sensei said "He'll sit out the tournament"
Nobody really asked for this, no
Nobody really asked for this, No
Another summer wasted here, in the battlefords
Mom says to go get outside and don't come back till it's dark
They say that wealth is revealed in the teeth
That's why we're all wearing braces.
and dirty fingernails
that a good akela wouldn't approve of
not another broken arm in this heat
he fell bringing pop and chips home one handed
we weren't invincible
and the sense said he'll sit out the tournament

This is Behöver inte dig idag (Don't Need You Today) by Clara Klingenström. She competed in a swedish music competition this year called Melodifestivalen where you are competing to represent Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest. It's a beautiful song about moving on from toxic things in your life and based on her own life story battling addiction and depression. It gets me every time.

The video that I'm happy to share with you is of a very intimate and beautiful acoustic version of 'Si hubieras querido' de Pablo Alborán - my favourite singer and idol. I can listen his music and voice everytime and everywhere. That exact song is about the love which is already gone, but for both lovers is hard to say 'Goodbye'...

To be honest, I don't like the translation in English because I prefer the lyrics in Spanish, but I'm sharing it here with you:
If You'd Have Wanted
Verse 1
No one said that saying goodbye would be easy
I don't even know if I can be your friend
Look, if we had loved each other,
How many universes had we invented
How many times has this story been told?
And look what happened to us
Pre Chorus
Our lips don't deserve so much pain
Who would say that in one day, all the years would die?
Who did you fall in love with?
If you never liked anything I am
We had destiny separating us
I already see it clearly
Chorus
I could see beautiful things
I could imagine them with you
I would have walked barefoot in the cold
If you'd have wanted
I could see beautiful things
I could imagine them with you
I would have walked barefoot, in the cold
If you'd have wanted
Verse 2
We went to bed on Sunday
The clothes thrown on the floor
We were envied by so many
Now we envy the people who look at us
I could with you, I could with you
No one was capable of keep it alive
We are more past than future
I just can't break this damn wall
Pre Chorus
Our lips don't deserve so much pain
Who would say that in one day, all the years would die?
Who did you fall in love with? (Who?)
If you never liked anything I am
We had destiny separating us
I already see it clearly
Chorus
I could see beautiful things (Bonitos)
I could imagine them with you (Imagine it with you)
I would have walked barefoot in the cold (Uh-uh, uh-uh)
If you'd have wanted
I could see beautiful things (Oh-oh)
I could imagine them with you (Oh-oh, oh-oh)
I would have walked barefoot, cold (If you would have)
If you'd have wanted(If you would have wanted)
I could see beautiful things (I could see beautiful things)
I could imagine them with you (I could, I could)
I would have walked barefoot in the cold
If you'd have wanted (If you would have wanted)
I could see beautiful things (I could see beautiful things)
I could imagine them with you (I could imagine them with you)
I would have walked barefoot in the cold (If you'd have)
If you'd have wanted

Havada Bir Hinlik Var

By the time you hear this
I'll be in the rearview mirror
I'll even wear that green dress you like
So when I disappear
You can turn around
One last look at the girl you lost
And the time you took to make up your mind
Between two roads
Go and take some more time
But me and mine must go
I try to wait it out
No more, can't find the man I was waiting for
I wanted to be your girl
In a white t-shirt
Over coffee, stirring in the cinnamon
While you read me poetry by dead men
I wanted to be your girl
With your hands on my skin
Stirring in the cinnamon
While you read me poetry by dead men
(While you read me poetry by dead men)
While you read me poetry by dead men
By the time you hear this
Who knows where I might be?
Singing 'bout another near miss
Love that ended incomplete
I was ready but you weren't
So jump with your net from this bridge you burned
I wanted to tell you things
All the secrets I've been keeping
I saw it in front of me
But then you just keep disappearing
A Good dream almost
Now I tell your ghost
I wanted to be your girl
In a white t-shirt
Over coffee, stirring in the cinnamon
While you read me poetry by dead men
I wanted to be your girl
With your hands on my skin
Stirring in the cinnamon
While you read me poetry by dead men
(While you read me poetry by dead men)
While you read me poetry by dead men
Line after line
The words just left to remind
The two of us saw what we could've been
Poetry by dead men
Fire from embers
How can I make you remember?
With a turn of a phrase
Would you turn to me if I say
I still want to be your girl?
I still want to be your girl
In a white t-shirt
Over coffee, stirring in the cinnamon
While you read me poetry by dead men
I wanted to be your girl
With your hands on my skin
Stirring in the cinnamon
While you read me poetry by dead men
(While you read me poetry by dead men)
While you read me poetry by dead men

THEN I went out for JV basketball, hung around naked in the locker room...a lot...and was blessed with the nickname of "Redwood". (Didn't make the team, but then again did...)
The MORAL of this story is that eventually, if you are sleazy enough and really try HARD, you won't need vinyl records to get into parties. Here's a dreamy classic:
I got some troubles but they won't last
I'm gonna lay down right here in the GRASS
Pretty soon all my troubles will pass
Cause I'm in shu, shu, shu,
(beat)
shu, shu, shu
(beat)
shu, shu, shu shu shu shu SUGARTOWN*
I never had a dog that liked me some
Never had a friend but wanted one
So I just lay back and laugh at the sun
Cause I'm in shu, shu, shu,
(beat)
shu, shu, shu
(beat)
shu, shu, shu shu shu shu SUGARTOWN*
Yesterday it rained in Tennessee
I heard it also rained in Talahassee
But not a drop fell on little ol' me
Cause I'm in shu, shu, shu,
(beat)
shu, shu, shu
(beat)
shu, shu, shu shu shu shu SUGARTOWN*
if i had a million dollars or ten
I'd give it to your world and then
You'd go away and just let me spend
My life in shu, shu, shu
(beat)
shu, shu, shu
(beat)
shu, shu, shu shu shu shu SUGARTOWN*
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la....(fade out)
Nancy Sinatra, "SUGARTOWN"**
(*or rather: shu, shu, shu, shu, shu guys LOCKERROOM)
**This song isn't about Sugar, btw

Hi Lukas, when the song, "Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon" popped up in the film "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood", I finally understood it! LOVE MAMA CASS!

Yea, Jason, me too. That Schitt's Creek scene induced sobbing at my house. Did you see Levy in the SNL skit where he is a tour guide at a Hollywood movie studio?

I know it seems to be used in everything nowadays, but To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra is always a go to of mine. Silhouette by Active Child and Ellie Goulding is a bit of a hidden gem too.
Finally I’d probably go with Watch Me by Labi Siffre. The lyrics really sum up my relationship with my husband. So much so, we played it whilst getting married a few years back.

Sumertime (one of his best songs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSb8W...
Also I share Dead of night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3esG...
This is his web: https://www.orvillepeck.com/

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Hp...

it's one of the few songs in my mother tongue that I love. It takes me back to my varsity years hanging out with my sister in her kitchen drinking to much coffee and pretending we had it all figured out.
The "game" is quite simple.
Pick the first song that goes in your mind - from your favorite artist, band, whatever you want - and post it here, it would be lovely if it's in your mother tongue, so we can discover something new from other countries!
You can also say why you love this song, make a presentation, whatever you want! Be creative!
I'll start the round with this one:
Questo corpo - by La Rappresentante di Lista (Italian duo band)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwys8...
It's a song about love/hate relationship towards our bodies, how sometimes we struggle living a certain idea of identity forgetting that at the end of the day our body, the one who sometimes we hate so deeply or we struggle with it, is our most intimate lover. It's the one who carry us during our entire life and despite every damage that we do to it, it's always there to help you and love you.
I'll add the English translation here:
I don't like anything
I don't like anybody
Those legs alone
Don't move well
Those arms, they don't hold
You're gone, you didn't lose anything
Sometimes this mouth doesn't believe me
It wants the hunger and the thirst
Those hands confort me
And inside the chest this heart doesn't move well
It doesn't pulse the blood to the veins
And my sex when it moves
It metamorphs
Between the lips it has a terrible tongue
Which sings
From my head it starts,
To my head it returns
A song that flood my eyes
And, while the tears drop, I shake
Everything swell my belly
As well as my breast
From my head it starts,
To my head it returns
A song that blows up the teeth
And while I laugh, I forget to have cried
And my tongue moves by itseld
And I sing
I don't like anything, I don't like anybody
This body that has been a party
Full of false loves
Full of hair
I will come with all my heart
To say "what do you think?"
This body that loves me
Even if it falls, nothing happens
It's a promise that I make to myself
I take back
What you took from me
From my head it starts,
To my head it returns
A song that floods my eyes
And as my tears drop
Everything swell my belly
As well as my breast
From my head it starts,
To my head it returns
A song that blows up the teeth
And, as I laugh, I forget to have cried
And my tongue moves by itself
And I sing
I sing
What you want to give
You can't keep
[you must] Beg to stay
If too much bad is too much bad
The too good, I don't want to know it [It's kind of difficult to translate, since "Fare male / Fare bene" translate to "Hurts / ?"]
What you want to give
You can't keep
Beg to stay
If too much bad is too much bad
The too good, I don't want to know it
Looking forward to listen your songs!
