It's time to look back at your March reads and recommend your favorites to the group. What middle grade titles stood out?

My own forays into MG titles were patchy at best. It's always disheartening to pick up a book with high hopes only to DNF it for one reason or another. False starts (sigh). However, I do have a "best." Hello, Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly is a contemporary friendship story with a quirky cast that includes a self-proclaimed seer, a shy boy, a deaf girl, and the neighborhood bully.

Caron Pescatore Hi! I'm new to the group. I read a couple of really great books with my son in March. One was The Wing Thief, which is listed as a YA novel, but really is perfectly appropriate for middlegraders. My son is 11 and loved it. We also loved, Ethan Murphy and the Quest for the Minal. Both really awesome books!

I did well for reading in March. The best was definitely Charlie Mackesy's The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. It's a must read for all ages :)

Also good reads, C Lee McKenzie's Sign of the Green Dragon, and Payel Doshi's Rea and the Blood of the Nectar which is out now or very soon, depending on where you live. That could be an excellent series.

Manybooks | 380 comments I really enjoyed revisiting Caroline Stellings’ The Contest (local Hamilton Ontario setting and an Anne of Green Gables Look Alike Contest).

And I also enjoyed reading Caroline Stellings’ latest MG novel, set in Waterloo Ontario and based on an actual lawsuit of the 1980s that saw two American cookie companies sue about a Mennonite cookie recipe, The Great Cookie War (with my only mild complaint being that the ending was a bit rushed and I kind of wanted a bit more).

I loved Resistance! Actually, I love any book by Jennifer A. Nielsen!

I read the second Fowl Twins book. It was such a fun read (like the first). Eoin Colfer has a clever way with words and I find the writing style so entertaining.

Justine Laismith (justinelaismith) | 348 comments I managed three books. My favourite was The Good Bear. It's a heart-warming story set in Norway.

I just realised that my other two books also had a European travel theme - not that we are short of book suggestions for our next Book of the Month!

Rendezvous in Russia is about a girl who gets involved with a film crew.
The Ship of Shadows is a ship of pirate girls who journey as far as Morocco.

Becca Britton | 5 comments The best book I read in March was Gargantis. I'm really enjoying the Eerie-on-Sea series and am looking forward to the third book, Shadowghast coming out in September.
