Sounds good! These are always the some of the funnest threads!Anyone do anything fun or exciting for Easter? If you do or don't celebrate it.
My mom and I traveled down to my sister's and went Easter egg hunting with my niece and nephew. It was a blast! Celebrated my B-day as well since it was the day before. Brownies!
Sounds amazing Shera! Happy Birthday to you. Even I don't celebrate Easter but sure it sounds a lot of fun. :)
Thanks guys! Well at least I hope you enjoyed the weekend and did something fun for yourselves. We've had super cold weather and then out of no where it's 80 degrees! So intense.

Oh! Well, I have been busy lately and am stuck with assignment and exams, so haven't had any fun, on the contrary, the weather here has been hot, it's summertime here.

I had a busy and tiring weekend. Had to move to a new place due to work and spent the whole weekend setting up the place. But I have few leaves coming up next week so I am looking forward to catching up to my tbr as much as possible. Yeah it's summer here. It doesn't get that cold here at all. It's like varying degree of hot throughout the year.
Do you guys like retellings/ reimaginations of fairytales or classic stories? If yes then which one is your favorite?

We're just coming out of Winter and apparently this might be one of those Springs where it's just—BOOM!—hot and a early summer.
Fun stuff! Good luck with your studies! Is it end of the school year exams?! I always hated those!

That sounds like a good plan and I hope you get to use your leave how you want. ^_-
Ah, I always wonder if I'd miss the seasons if I lived in a climate like yours.
Arundhati wrote: "Do you guys like retellings/ reimaginations of fairytales or classic stories? If yes then which one is your favorite?"Yes, I do! Can never get enough of them. It's odd I never get bored of'em.
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite, but it always seems like I end up reading more Cinderella ones.
Arundhati wrote: "Do you guys like retellings/ reimaginations of fairytales or classic stories? If yes then which one is your favorite?"
Yes! Ok so, I have read Cinderella is Dead and it was a good retelling but I am yet to read some popular ones like Cinder.

Even I love retellings. Just cannot get enough. I think beauty and the beast and cindrella retellings are the most popular ones. Even I love beauty and beast retellings. My favorite was A Curse So Dark and Lonely ( hated the other two books in the series though).
Recently I have been trying out some new and not so popular ones. The one I am currently reading is a Peter Pan retelling. Which is totally new to me.

Oh I have Cinderella Is Dead on my tbr. I am a big fan of the lunar chronicles. The whole series is such great set of retellings. Marissa Meyer definitely does some great retellings. Even Heartless which was based on the Red queen of Alice in the wonderland was so great.

OMG!!! I read both Heartless and The Lunar Chronicles. Loved 'em!!! <3 Heartless will break your heart, though, just a fair warning. But the heart-break is worth it, I promise. :)
BookNerd99 wrote: "OMG!!! I read both Heartless and The Lunar Chronicles. Loved 'em!!! <3 Heartless will break your heart, though, just a fair warning. When you know there is no happy ending for them and still you keep on hoping throughout that maybe? Heartless made me cry. It's definitely worth a try :)

Oh, man! Peter Pan retellings have been some of the most creative and scariest ones I've read!
I just bought A Curse So Dark and Lonely and the second book. After hearing how it's the best "beauty and the beast retelling" and so unique.
To be honest Rosemund Hodge holds a special place in my heart for her BandB retelling, but her Romeo and Juliet retelling is EVERYTHING!
BookNerd99 wrote: "OMG!!! I read both Heartless and The Lunar Chronicles. Loved 'em!!! <3 Heartless will break your heart, though, just a fair warning. But the heart-break is worth it, I promise. :)"I love the Lunar books.
I keep putting of Heartless because everyone keeps saying how it will destroy you.

Ya the whole vibe is creepy and scary for Peter Pan.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely is really great. I hope you enjoy it.
I haven't tried anything from Rosemund Hodge. Which one will you suggest to start with?
Arundhati wrote: "Shera (Book Whispers) wrote: "Arundhati wrote: "Shera (Book Whispers) wrote: "Arundhati wrote: "Do you guys like retellings/ reimaginations of fairytales or classic stories? I hope so too! I hope I'll like the rest of the series.
I know
was her first book and many just say to start there. And I think you will get a taste for her writing style. However, her
and
are her Romeo and Juliet retellings and I just wish I could get more people pumped about them as they are about her previous two works.
I've read a lot of retellings. I have a whole shelf for them. After the ones all ready mentioned The Girl in Red is a good option. It is a red riding hood retelling. It's more new adult horror and it is set in the US after a coughing plague has ruined society. I read last year and I didn't realize the whole plague thing so naturally it freaked me out, but it was still really good. The author Christina Henry has some other retelling that I have yet to read. Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.

I have heard of cruel beauty a lot. I will bring it up on my tbr list. Romeo and Juliet is supposed to be tragedy right. Am I gonna get my heart totally shattered by the end of these? I would have to prep my heart before reading.

Well, I don't want to spoil anything. It doesn't start where you think it would and the twist is so unique . . . I think your okay.
I actually would like to see more Rumpelstiltskin retellings. There are some, but I think it's very underrated.
I know, there are just retellings of the more popular faery tales, I think :(What's a good "Rapunzel" retelling?
The only Rumpelstiltskin retelling I know is Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Which I haven't read so can't tell if it's any good. Honestly I wouldn't even know about Rumpelstiltskin if not for OUAT. It's such an underrated and underapreciated gem. The only rapunzel retelling I have read is Cress from the Lunar chronicles series. Has anyone read any other than that?
Hey! Do any of you like homestuck? My bsf just joined gr, and she was wondering if anyone would be interesting in joining a homestuck themed group. PLEASE pm me if you'd be interested! We'll also need another mod as well!

I was obsessed. I wish a I could find it. There was a song and everything from it that I was obsessed with. So when Rumple was a villain in OUaT I was not surprised at all. Ha-ha!

What's a good "Rapunzel" retelling?"
Here's a goodreads list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/4...
Cress of course. Like Arundhati said. Some of the top books in the list I have read.

I hated Uprootedwhereas I liked her new novel A Deadly Education.
Woah there is a whole list of rapunzel retellings? I didn't know there are so many out there. Thanks for sharing Shera.

Goodreads lists are awesome!!! Of course!
So I'm a big vote for reading Spinning Silver. I do love Uprooted but Spinning Silver was even better. I enjoyed A Deadly Education as well. Reading her dragon series is on the tbr.I can't think of any other Rumpelstiltskin or Rapunzel retellings.
Hey have you guys seen this Gilded?? It's new book from Marissa Meyer and it is a Rumpelstiltskin retelling. It comes out this year. I am so excited for this now. 😍
Erica wrote: "So I'm a big vote for reading Spinning Silver. I do love Uprooted but Spinning Silver was even better. I enjoyed A Deadly Education as well. Reading her dragon series is on the tbr...."I'm very curious to read her dragon series, I've been meaning to for so long.
Arundhati wrote: "Hey have you guys seen this Gilded?? It's new book from Marissa Meyer and it is a Rumpelstiltskin retelling. It comes out this year. I am so excited for this now. 😍"I totally forgot that she's doing that! Ha-ha! Doesn't come out until the end of the year!!

Yeah ikr. It's gonna be a long wait...
It really is. But I have her other books to tide me over. I haven't read anything outside of her Lunar books.
Shera (Book Whispers) wrote: "It really is. But I have her other books to tide me over. Recently she wrote a YA contemporary Instant Karma. Read that also found it to bd ok. I think she writes retellings the best.
I've been very curious to read her Renegade books. I don't have instant karma on my future purchases shelf. Part of me feels like contemporary isn't her thing. I do agree. She's got a gift for retellings. Even her shorts for the Lunar books.
oh I see some Marissa Meyer going on gotta joinThe Lunar Chronicles are my absolute all time favorites and I just can't express how much I love every single word (Jacinter is otp hehe)
I personally liked Renegades, but didn't have a chance to read the second two books
I dnf'd Instant Karma... I'm gonna try again but meh. I'm really suffering with it :/
Have you seen the new covers for the Lunar Chronicles!! The old ones are great, but those new ones are just stunning!!!
Yeah I have seen the news ones. They are cool. Gives out the sci-fiesque feel which is fitting. But I think I liked the old ones much better. How every cover was had the significant object the retelling represented. I loved them.Hi Mira welcome to the discussion. I love Lunar Chronicles too. My fav has to by Cress and Thorne. <3 Instant Karma was so tough to get into initially. The whole unlikable insufferable heroine thing going on and can't even say it gets a lot better or anything.
So this brings up a question in my mind. Who is your book boyfriend?( or bfs because we never can have too many :P) Or your otp(one true pairing) whom you ship forever? Please do share. Let the fangirling begin :)
You're right. The old covers are awesome in highlighting the retelling. I want to be greedy and have both covers!!

Way too many. Shipping. Let's see basically every book by Nalini Singh in her Psy-Changeling books. I don't know how she does it, but I live for each couple. Best part is she creates solid female leads that I'd love to be BFFs with, which only makes the shipping all the better because she creates some of my fave
