H. Roberts Hi,
I've recently published my first novel and would love for you guys to give it a try. It's free for a limited time and if you feel so inclined, I'd really appreciate a review.

http://www.amazon.com/Spider-Eats-Fri...

Description

Urban myths are becoming urban facts, gods have started to ride the subway and a monster from ancient folklore is hungrily stalking the streets.

While working in the vibrant city of Osaka, Australian bush witch, Alley Weaver, is suddenly gifted with the ability to see the ghosts and spirits that normally remain hidden. She soon finds that her housemate is being tormented by a murderous poltergeist and a dangerously seductive creature, known as a nukekubi, is hunting her friends. To save them, Alley will have to break her oath to ‘do no harm’ and delve into the forbidden side of the craft, but wielding the dark magic needed to destroy these otherworldly horrors always has consequences.

I downloaded it and hope to get to it... eventually. ^^;;; I've got so many physical books laying around right now that I need to get through.

It sounds like it should be a good read.

(and for the record, you're welcome to suggest this as a group read, since it takes place in Japan :) )

message 5: by H. (new)

H. Roberts Thanks :-) I'm going to try and get my hands on Another to join in the current group read.

A thought occurred to me with this.

I think Goodreads has some kind of free download function as well. You might be able to reach a larger audience that way?

Really? That's something I definitely need to look into then as I'd love to reach a bigger audience. A book isn't much good if no one is reading it. Amazon is funny about uploading to other platforms though so will have to check all the terms and conditions. I appreciate the info and will certainly be reading up on it.

Since GR is owned by Amazon, you probably won't run into too much trouble. :)

I'm not sure how you upload them, but you can find them through Explore -> Ebooks

Awesome! Thanks. I'm reading up on it now.

H. Roberts That's great, Allison. Thank you and happy reading. :-)

Thank you for the link! I'll add this on my to read list and give a review :)

Look forward to reading it!

Fanta Miste | 473 comments Thank you for the link, I just downloaded it. Because the scene is set in Osaka, I am looking forward to seeing Kansai-Ben. :)

No Kansai-Ben in this I'm afraid. In fact, the use of any Japanese is kept to the barest minimum as that is most appropriate to the storyline.
You will find however, that the locations are all real places that can be visited in Osaka and there are countless cultural references but, always those will be from an outsiders perspective as is appropriate to the story. I hope you get some enjoyment out of it regardless and thank you for downloading.

Thank you Diana. I would definitely welcome a review.

Fanta Miste | 473 comments Now I'm reading it. Because of my English skill, I read about a half chapter per day. Now they just ate ramen. :) It was very funny that Kuchisake onna asked an English speaker in Japanese. Since this book often refers to Japanese culture, my heart beats fast.

Thank you very much :-) I'm so pleased you found it funny. I tried to include lots of aspects of Japanese culture but seen from the perspective of an immigrant in Japan. There will be more moments like that in the book.

You know, you can always recommend this as a group read novel, H. ;) I'd say "Japanese culture from the perspective an immigrant" definitely fits nicely into our group's theme.

Thanks Selena, I might just do that :-D Participating in this group is fun so I don't want to come across like I'm only out to sell my book. I'm definitely here because I like Japanese novels.

I would've suggested it myself, but I swear most of the books on both lists came from me, so I've been trying to hold back and let others do some suggesting. ;)

Fanta Miste | 473 comments I finished and enjoyed it. :)
If I were familiar with that famous ghost, the scene where she showed would be more exciting, pity. On the other hand, when Japanese ghost and Japanese text appeared, I smiled in spite of myself. Thank you for a fun time.

By the way, I could find some typos, should I tell you them? (Though they could already be modified in the latest version...)

I'm so glad you had fun reading it. That makes me very happy. Thank you :-) Oh those pesky typos. Yes, please let me know and if I haven't fixed them already I can go ahead and correct them.

message 24: by H. (new)

H. Roberts Thank you so much for the feedback, Fanta :-) I really appreciate your efforts in helping me improve my writing. It's amazing that no matter how often you go over something, there is always more to fix.

Oh, and you're right about frog. It was supposed to be kaeru. That's a pretty major spelling error I need to fix right away. Thanks for pointing it out.
