It's time for June's nominations! There is no theme this month. Books we haven't read in the past three years are eligible for nomination. They must be written by a woman and published at least 50 years ago. Please let me know if you can lead.

Nominations ends April 14th

Carolien (carolien_s) | 177 comments I'd like to nominate So Big. I can lead.

message 3: by Suzann (new)

Suzann | 66 comments For Love Alone by Christina Stead? I think this group read this Australian author's later novel The Man Who Loved Children some time ago.

message 4: by Carol (new)

Carol (carolfromnc) | 805 comments I nominate Ivy Compton-Burnett's 1935 novel, A House and Its Head.

Summary:

Duncan Edgeworth rules over his family with steely authority in a country village of idyllic beauty, rapacious gossip and motives of the purest malignity. A crowd of neighbors watches on as Duncan’s scandalous remarriage sparks the chaos that will engulf his family and set off a battle of wills in their tangled community.

I just found out about this author. So my nomination is Above Suspicion by Helen MacInnes which was published in 1941.

I nominated one of her books a few months back. She was one of the first spy novelists.

We get so many great nominations that it is hard to keep track of them all.

Marilyn Charlene wrote: "I just found out about this author. So my nomination is Above Suspicion by Helen MacInnes which was published in 1941."

My library doesn't have the book but it has the movie starring Joan Crawford and Fred MacMurray. Released in 1943.

I just put the hold on this at the library. It usually takes about a week for it to get out to the Hy-Vee book locker for me to pick up. Book locker is closer to my house than the library is.
