I believe that it is our privledge to be able to help Mother Earth by planting. I have a quite small garden, which is amy Garden of Eden in comparisson to neighbours gardens. Aside from flowers of all types my garden is full of fruit trees. We plant trees as a momento to commemorate a new birth in the family, or remembering one passed, and there is nothing more beautiful than awakening each and everyday,to see the changes from season to season, be it the changing of leave colors, new spring leaves, fragrant flowers being visited for their nectar by bees and hummingbirds. This is the process which brings about fertilization and a season of beautiful fruit. The air is cleaner around my house,no smoke or pollution, just the fresh smell of the soil, and the fragrance of flowers and blossoms galore. Try rubbing a citrus leave just for the fun of it and enjoy the pleasure of a whiff of a refreshing aroma. Graehstone, I agree wholeheartedly, plant a tree or shrub, help save the world. Keep thinking green.
Mukesh, why don't you try this. The next time that you eat any seeded fruit, such as an orange, apple, pear, or grapefruit let's say, take a few of the seeds, dry them for 24 hours, and then take a small flower pot or some empty cardboard egg carton, put some earth in them, plant the seeds and water. Voila in about a weeks time you will see your magical transformation from a "greenless thunbed person" into a "green thumb person" on your way to finding the appreciation of feeling the earths sunbaked warmth and soft crumbly texture with your hands, smelling its special fragrance , especially after the falling of rain. Your reward is awaitng you in your hands the next time you munch down on the juicy apple you are probably reaching for as I write. Once you get the hang of it you will appreciate nature and the splendid wonders all around us.
I am a grandmother with young grandchildren , they are of the "21st century" and enjoy planting. How old are you in order to be "a little too 21st century" Planting has gone on forever and will go on forever if each and everyone of us takes part in "Our World" Graehstone, I hope you agree with me that Mukesh has no idea what he is missing.
"2658968 I'm... a little too 21st century for that unfortunately. But, I'll try it... "
Farms exist in the 21st century. You have a cushy life because you don't have to grow your own food. That doesn't make it old fashioned, just out of your limited experience.
