Isabel | 18 comments Tame Impala is one of my favorite musical artists out there, specializing in alternative and indie music. Some of his songs are very well known over others, such as “The Less I Know the Better” or even “Borderline”. While the latter is not in the Currents album, it is still a good song regardless and has a deep meaning behind the lyrics. Delving a bit more into Tame Impala’s symbolism through lyrics, he touches up on themes such as heartbreak, moving on from the past, changing into a better person, and others. One of my favorite lines from “Yes I’m Changing” is “Yes I'm changing, can't stop it now/And even if I wanted I wouldn't know how/Another version of myself/I think I've found at last”. This song represents letting go of past memories, no matter how painful or joyous they may be, in order to grow into a stronger person. I find myself relating to Impala’s songs a lot, especially with how much I’ve changed throughout my high school years.

I’d give this album a 5 out of 5; I have several of his songs saved on my Spotify playlist. There are more songs than the ones I listed above, each with their own symbolism and touching lyrics. The song titles in this album are also impactful, and can give you an idea of what it will be about, such as “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” or “Reality in Motion”. For anyone interested in trying a new genre out, I highly recommend Tame Impala as he can be listed in numerous kinds of music, including psychedelic pop and rock. I feel like others would be able to relate to his music as well, and perhaps find some sort of comfort in it like I did.
